And besides Ulquiorra and Starkk other espadas all have deficits that make them unsuitable subordinates. Yammy is dumb, and not suited for more complex job at all. Barragan hates Aizen. Harribel dislikes fighting and does bare minimum most of the time. Noitora doesn't look for much other than a fight. Grimmjow isn't loyal enough and disobeyed Aizen's orders. Zomarri and Aaronniero aren't strong and smart enough. Szayelaporro has his own agenda. That leaves Starkk and even he has his flaws of not being at it 100% for the most part.

Also the fact that Ulquiorra was paired up with Yammy all the time gives me the impression Kubo was alluding to the 2 of them being the secret strongest Espada, given that they're the only ones who achieved a 2nd release form, only reason people doubt Ulquiorra is cuz Yammy was confirmed and he wasn't, but I think if we consider his feats it's not unreasonable to assume he was the strongest or at the very least higher than 4, also the fact that he was so trusted by Aizen supports this even more

TLDR; Is there even a logical Bankai to expand on Kyoka Suigetsu where Aizen would still bother with the Hogyoku? At this point I firmly believe Aizen doesn't even have a Bankai. This guy's channel has covered that some Shinigami just aren't capable of Bankai no matter how hard they try and how long they have, so what if Aizen physically can't do Bankai? Kyoka Suigetsu is already pretty much God mode and it's not like he would benefit from telling anyone he doesn't have it, so he lies and manipulates, using Kyoka Suigetsu to show everyone a fake Bankai and pass his Captain exam. It might make sense that instead of being like some Shinigami who won't ever achieve Bankai due to lack of ability, maybe Aizen is so talented that Kyoka Suigetsu's full power awakened from the start. I just don't think there's a logical expansion on Kyoka Suigetsu that wouldn't make the Hogyoku redundant tbh.

"Inform yourself first before bullshit" is an absolutely rude statement to someone who's just having fun theorizing about a series they love. @@Bingotaco Aizen was able to release his Shikai without the release command- which is already a sign that he's achieved Bankai (this is a true fact, even for captains). And when he spoke to Ichigo about reaching the limits of being a Shinigami (during the SS arc, before he left to Hueco Mundo- he mentioned), the implication would be that the 'limits' included a bankai. Shikai and Bankai are the pinnacle of Soul Reaper techniques.

When Ulquiorra saw ichigo fighting Yammi, he said "his reiatsu was higher than mine for a moment" when Ogichi showed, and then saw Yammi beating Ichigo ass like nothing. This gave Ulquiorra the idea that ichigo is strong but not enough to control his own powers. So either ulquiorra thought ichigo was a wate of potential, or he secretely give him the chance to grow strong and face him in the future.
