If I'm right, I believe Worf was the first one infected by the alien. Maybe the alien had to learn how to enter a physical being so the first time was harder to do than later attempts until with Picard it was completely natural.

Worf was also a different species from the rest. Perhaps his Klingon physiology could explain part of it?
