As a paramedic who deals with a ton of cardiac related patients, I can tell you that your self- awareness, and trusting your instincts that something wasn’t right played a big part in this dire situation ending with a positive outcome. I encourage anyone that experiences something like this to never hesitate calling 911 or asking for help. Early STEMI recognition, stabilization, and Cath Lab activation by first responders followed by getting you to definitive care (the hospital) in a timely fashion is so crucial. Like John said, this is no time to be a “tough guy”, and we all know John is about as tough as they come. Wise response. You can always decline if false alarm. But once you're dead u cant come back. Consider baby aspirin, consult your MD. If your hemoglobin runs high normal, your blood is too thick, donate regularly. High hemoglobin increases risk of a heart attack. Yearly cardiac stress test...is wise if risk factors exist. Otherwise I think high omega 3 diet, anti inflammatory whole foods diet, daily exercise, good sleep, low stress life, meditation and prayer etc...are great things to consider to decrease your MI risk.

John so happy your ok. I’m 74 years old and April 2019 I was in the gym working out and had a great work out in fact I did 475 pound dead lifts fo 8 reps. Just as I finished my workout my daughter who is a nurse came in for me to train her as she was getting ready for an Ironman and she said daddy you look like you are about to die your solid gray . At that time I had no pains of any kind but within minutes I started sweating like buckets of water . Against her request I finished her training and then I went home . My wife insisted we go to the hospital but I said let’s wait and make sure what’s going on not very smart on my behalf. I finally decided around 2:00 o’clock am the.next morning to go to the hospital. Well I had heart surgery with a 4 way bypass. After 2 months my heart surgeon told me my chest was 100 % healed and I could go back to lifting just take it slow . That wasn’t so hard to for the fear of tearing things apart . But now its a year later I’m 75 and back working out 3 days on 1 day off . I started working out when I was 12 years old with concrete cans on a galvanized pipe my daddy help me make . I’m a retired accountant and owned my own practice for 35 years and my older son took over my practice 3 years now . So now I’m enjoying my passion more than words can tell . Sorry for the long reply but I have been a fan of yours since you started on KZbin. God bless you and your family.

John, as a father myself, you hit me right in the feels when you said "this could be my last day on earth". I've had my health issues as well and there's no worse feeling than thinking about what your kids life will be without you around. The love for your kids is one of the strongest things to get you through lifes biggest struggles. I'm glad you're still with us to keep spreading your knowledge to the world.

I realize this is late. I never met you. I found your channel about a month ago and subscribed and even though we never met I feel like I know you, and I miss you. My heart breaks for you, for your bride and for your son to the point of tears. My prayers are for you and your family and that they are able to work through their enormous loss and find joy in knowing they had you for as long as they did. God bless you Meadows family.

John Good to see you doing well. I can relate to your story. I also had a heart attack. I was hitting the heavy bag at the gym the night before. Went in for simple throat operation and had heart attack on operating table. While in the hospital i swore i would enjoy life more. Hope you are.

This video takes on a different perspective now that he's no longer with us. In this video, he talks about the possibility of dying at a relatively young age. His story is a cautionary tale for sure.

Reality is 60 is the normal age to go. He lived hard on his body and the time was lost but he was happy and that is what matters.

@@TheMarg28 do the research mate and you'll see. Most of us are working class Moe's that do that 5/7 days and die before 60. The do Littles of this world live long. @@andrewwright. I dont know where your from mate but where I'm from people live well into there 80s working 7 days a week (mainly farmers) I started my own company and sure it's more stressful but I get paid alot more to do alot less which balances me out, it's all about balance I think, either way 60 or 80 , it's not a long time in the grand scheme is it. enjoy every day 👍
