You've done very good research on the great scholar. I used to wrongly observe him as a controversial figure.

JazakAllah khayr brother. He's definitely a controversial and complex figure in many aspects, but that's what makes him interesting.

Calling environment as main cause of differences still falls upon race, because it says environment causes differences on physiological and psychological between people. So he is basically saying: due to climate, their race is like this and thus their intelligence is caused by climate biological changes so it falls upon race. What he says about blacks south of Sudan, Zanj, Slavs and northern europeans are indeed racial views but I agree he was a man of his time falling upon context of his time. But arabs were really mean
@Ibn_M_

No it doesn’t. Racism is saying “X people are *intrinsically* Y regardless of environmental conditions”, which is the absolute opposite of what he says since he discusses extrinsic factors and his whole work is about how human groups rise or decline based on how and where they live, which makes him, on the contrary, quite original-minded and not merely dismissible as just a man of his time. I also presented occurrences of him praising the Muslim Malian dynasty of his time as well as a knowledgeable Shaykh of Ghana he sympathized with in Cairo, or even his deconstruction of the claim that being dark-skinned was a “curse”. On another note, singling out Arabs as “mean” out of nowhere could possibly fall upon race.

@@Ibn_M_ I am pretty sure racism is defined as superiority of a race over another, not superiority over a race except when is caused by environment. He did not believe black people were bad because of environment, he believed environment caused blackness and evilness and dumbness. Once they left, in some generations they would change their colors and their intelligence, not only intelligence. He brought several nations from Sahel and Southern Europe as examples of exceptions of people that are not dumb because they live closer to temperate zones, and brings religion (saying they were muslims, christians respectively) not directly justifying their civilization due to religion conversion. Is just like saying "you are all like that, but wait there are the good ones of course". Bring a rule and then call exceptions does not mean he did not bring a rule and generalizations. Also, "medieval arabs were mean" following a subject of racism just means in this context they wrote badly about black people, so it fits the context. Is not like saying "arabs are mean" out of nothing.

A race can absolutely achieve superiority over others. There are winners, there are losers. That’s history. Racism would be to attribute that superiority to (non-existent) intrinsic qualities. “No human being exists with an unbroken pedigree of nobility from Adam down to himself.” Ibn Khaldun

Good work. Also it would be ridiculous if he is racist and quote the Quran and all of his works repeatedly lol

10:08 Sounds like ungratefulness. Why go to another country and get upset when you're not showered in "money and honor"? He was given enough things as a gift: bread, meat, and yogurt. It is not an obligation to gift him the world.

That’s how he was treated in India, the Maldives, Fez, al-Andalus and other courts, as a scholar/diplomat/traveler coming from a far away land. So he’s probably expecting something similar from the wealthy ruler of Mali.

@@Ibn_M_ it's discussed that many medieval western african s hide their gold to avoid foreigners, so much they told Battuta that they killed a slave and ate her, right when he was leaving but this was not a practice among muslims and not even among non-muslim manden and sahelian people. They would do anything to avoid those people coming closer to their gold source, even scare them. Also, scholar visit may have been common at that time, being from North Africa would not make him different to the point of getting gold. So it's all context

Already preparing a video series on it. It should be posted after the current video series on China. However due to personal reasons this takes a lot of time so better expect that for 2024 inshaAllah.

Why lying . You need to understand that we Absyinnas or Ethiopians or habasha are mixed race our father is Arab man who originated from Yemen we are Semitic and we have been neighbors to Arabs and friends and sometimes fighting each other. So the Arabs know us well. What ibn khadun talking about western African sudanis etc.
