Brentildas run should be retimed. Although I think it was generally a more fluid and better run, as much as I love illumina, the excessive pausing should be taken into account when the world record rules are now different (Btw the fortress play in this run is just incredible)

the problem with that is that it's not obvious with minecraft when "loading" has finished. When you see the first blocks, the game can still be unplayable because of lag. This is why the new rules allow to pause right after loading a new dimension and at the start of the game. The question is only what to do about old times because they were made with the assumption that you can pause.

he had the materials needed to go for zero cycle which is just as fast as instaperch and has a 1/4 chance of occurring rather than 1/13. even ignoring that, he still shouldve been thinking of backup strats like halfbow. instead, he banked everything on blind luck and thats why he doesnt have WR right now. its so frustrating to watch because he genuinely is such an incredible runner who was blessed with everything needed to crush the category, but i feel like his competitive spirit that we’ve seen far in the past is they key missing factor thats holding him back from true greatness.

It’s frustrating that he didn’t get the perch. He entered the end at 7:44. He wanted to highroll for sub 9 instead of doing halfbow, which helps less than people think it does, and completely negates the chance for an instaperch. Also apparently he had a back dragon, so zero cycle was harder.

t_wag did a video on this. He agrees with Illumina's choice, for what it's worth, saying he had a 24% chance of sub-9 and almost 60% chance of sub-10 and thinks that was worth going for. Halfbow eliminates the 24% chance entirely and is of questionable benefit when started only after the quick perch doesn't happen. He also tried the zero-cycle, which could have worked on Illumina's run, and completed it on his second try for a simulated time of 8:58. Here's the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWXWXoyra96cnac t-wag is the single biggest zero-cycle evangelist out there though and I think there's a reason that no top runner has picked it up as an RSG strategy, and I think that's because in practice it's a lot harder and a lot riskier and a lot less reliable than he makes it sound. There were at least a half-dozen attempts during the ESI tournament to make one work, with a large bounty on the line, and nobody succeeded. And this is in a scouted seed tournament where everyone who was interested knew the exact configuration of the end, where everyone involved is a much better speedrunner than t_wag is, and where most of them had practiced zero cycles for hours or for days beforehand. And t_wag didn't get this zero-cycle on his first try either.

The rules with pausing should be like the portal 2 ones. Pause abuse(looking at coords and stuff like that) isn't allowed but if you need to do so something that doesn't give you an advantage is allowed.
