There was definitely a couple weeks (I don't think it was any more than that) where Campbell lined up at edge more often like you say, but I wonder if Glenn was doing it more to see how it looked and how it would work. It seems like he's not really quick and definitely not bendy enough to make an impact there like he does from inside where he has more time to build up speed. People over criticize Glenn for things like this imo, you don't know how something is going to work until you try, and there is definitely less of Campbell lining up "play side" on the edge now, he's either doing it to free somebody else up or to cover somebody running a route. Lots to look forward to from Campbell I think.

He was at edge because they had lost Houston & the other closed-end edges were playing poorly. They were just trying different things to see if it worked. Campbell played decent in coverage from there but he lacked the power & bend like you said to sustain that.

Reps for Campbell at edge will only help his development as a pass rusher. Great move, but nothing more than development for JC and an opening at edge rusher.

Thank you for making this video, as Jack Campbell has been overshadowed somewhat this year by the three other rookies the Lions drafted in the first two rounds. Early on and into the middle of the season, a lot of Lions fans were talking trash about the guy, which really irritated me. In college, Campbell excelled at playing the run and did very well in pass coverage. Due to the lack of an effective pass rush early on, they started having him rushing the passer a lot, as an outside linebacker/defensive end. He didn't do that in college at all really, and he struggled a bit with it. Everyone was already starting to call him a bust, which I think shouldn't even be considered until after year two at the absolute earliest, for pretty much all players. But anyways, once Aaron Glenn started using Melifonwu & Branch as effective pass rushers about a month ago, Campbell was able to go back to doing what he's already really good at, playing the run and dropping back in pass coverage. I do feel a bit for Campbell though, as with fellow rookies Gibbs, LaPorta, and Branch, he is overshadowed a bit. But he's playing some really good ball heading into the playoffs, and I hope more people take notice.

His development this season has been great. I was stoked when we got him because of his style of play when defending teams in the playoffs… stoping the damn run when the weather gets cold! There’s time though he’s hesitant to pull the trigger on filling the lane at times which is odd because other times he’s great at it. His block destruction is teaching tape, wouldn’t want any part of meeting him in A / B gap.

@@Coach-Steindamn that’s actually a really good comparison when you think of length, size, strength and play style. I will say we have not had a MLB that can go downhill, engage blockers and shed as cleanly and consistently as Campbell since probably Spielman. Tulloch was damn good but a little different on style. Finding LB’s that are block destroyers is a hard thing to do in today’s game, I like the potential of Jack and where he could go with his career

Extra assignments for development. You want your first round picks to grow, it's a development year. Hopefully by the end of the year he develops a comfort zone where you start him in his natural position and don't think about it. It looks like that's happened.

@DoseofDion2.0 said “Jack Campbell is really good at negotiating trash” around the line of scrimmage. He is. He just gets through it. Flows to where he needs to be. The one exception is in your video when Alex “wrong armed” it as you put it and it cut off Jack. I love his tackles!!

I saw some tape on Campbell just looking into draft prospects and thought he would be a perfect fit for us (granted, as a 2nd round pick). When Brad picked him, I was reassured. Great points about his physicality and tackling. He plays violent but controlled!

Great breakdown, I found it really strange when they used Campbell as an Edge player. I think fans looked at his RAS score and assumed that's what he should be, where Barnes played Edge in college and is way more natural on the line.

Our Boyz💥💙 Will only get better next year. Brad Holmes draft picks are very young. And alot of them are getting healthy. I can see The Packers and the Bears being very solid next year and later. I’m still not sure what GB is all about yet.

Jack Campbells football instincts and IQ are off the charts. He is about as fundamentaly sound as rookie lbs come. Look for him to take a giant leap forward in the post season and next season, you can tell the game has slowed down for him.

Its really a shame that he was platooned early and played out of position (at OLB) for about 3 games or so. Still ended up with 95 tackles and 2 sacks. Just wait until he understands coverages a bit better.

Glad to see Campbell is panning out. I was upset we didn't take a CB it seemed like a bigger need but maybe Holmes has something up his sleeve this offseason. All we really are lacking is a true #1 Cb we have everything else in our secondary good to go and now our Lb group is above average for years to come.

@@adamioppolo1884 Yeah idk what we will do I know Brad values the draft so id be surprised for him to give up a big package in a trade. Stephen Gilmore looked good this year maybe we sign him as a 1 year stopgap and draft someone seems the most logical way but I def see Sutton moving to a #2 CB role in the near future and us getting a new #1 somehow.

19:20 - I could've paused it numerous times in your film here coach and highlighted this, but wondering if you've noticed Anzalone's body language in this game? Time and time again slouching his shoulders, taking a knee, punching the air, slamming the turf, etc., in frustration over positive plays for MN. Not like him at all. Wondering what's up with him, or if it's just an anomaly?

At 18:15 you say Jack Campbell is Thatched with his alignment. What are your rules for calling someone "Thatched"?
@all_22_films
@all_22_films 10 ай бұрын
Some people say inside foot to outside foot. Some have rules for field and then different rules for boundary. I know our rules were started somewhere (usually outside foot of the DT in front of you, then we moved further one way or the other depending on 2 x 1 or 3 x 1 formation. Hope that kind of answered the question, really great question.
