New Sindel's fashion? On point. Voice Actress? Spot. On. Moveset? Actually fun! Writing? ... WRITING?! Even if we ignore EVERYTHING that developed Sindel and we just follow the NRS story in this game alone....they still got Sindel's motivation wrong. How? Consider what she says to Shao whenever she and Sindel fight in matches Sindel: "Prove you haven't grown weak and pathetic" Shao: "Just as I remember...." But how did she find Shao in her story? Beat up, blinded, and chained to a jail cell left to rot. First time I saw that scene, I thought she was going to start a fatality on him, and she had every reason to by her own logic. She chastises her daughter for leaving Shao in the arena after beating her, telling her she should have killed those that opposed her because they will strike again. Yet, she doesn't apply this to herself and becomes a hypocrite and stereotype from then on. Even if she loved Shao at any point, Sindel shows a propensity towards her biological family first and foremost throughout her dialogue and ending sequence, which is why each time Sindel encounters Kitana and beats her in battle, she never kills her, or even maims her to remove her ability to fight. (What did she do with Shao? Cast him aside, because she told us she was using him all along.) And again, just off the logic of this game as a stand alone, Sindel goes toe to toe with Cetrion - an Elder God that killed her fellow Gods. Shao has never - ever - been able to stand toe to toe with them, and has always had to be devious and cunning to work around their might to get what he wants. If Sindel can at least fend off an Elder God, that means she has no need for Shao's might, because it's not equal nor exceeds hers. Yeah, NRS fucked up. Badly. They focused on outfits, flashy moves and combos, milking the consumer with DLC, and then forgot about plot continuity.

I think one of Spawn’s intros does provide somewhat of an explanation “he’s (Shao Kahn) a puppet, you hold the strings.” Kahn is nothing more then a big stupid attack dog, if he gets taken down like a chump however Sindel can easily fight for herself (that doesn’t explain her absurd power creep though that’s just bad writing with no explanation). I know it’s not that complex and it’s really just NRS being incompetent hacks but still it’s something then this stupid schlock they’re trying to pass of as a story.

What if the elder God’s soul wants to demand revenge for what cetrion did to the elder gods? That would’ve been hard to explain but at least gives an explanation to why she is evil and powerful as she is brainwashed by an evil elder god. Also, can we also talk about the fact taking away thotdel literally takes nothing away from the story dlc. She was literally one giant plot convenience the entire story. It sucks tho bcoz that means night wolf and sheeva don’t get a chapter. She was literally there to make the entire plot 2hrs. First of all, they didn’t even need thotdel to help defeat cetrion. Cetrion needed assistance from frost to take down fujin. It’s not hard to assume once frost and cetrion are done with fujin, he comes back to life in the void. If fujin can force an elder god to need a jobber to take him down, why need her help? Plus not to mention, frost was already taken down by nightwolf who btw can now literally summon death beams and kill someone in his brutalities without having to sacrifice himself and can even use it to teleport. That puts him above soul-amplified sindel in terms of power in mk9 and why tf did he sacrifice himself when he could’ve just concentrate a death beam on sindel and her only? They could resurrected nightwolf or could have used rain since he is one rank above sindel, in terms of power, which is being Demigod, if they wanted to ask for help. Given fujin’s battle alone, night wolf’s new abilities and Shang tsung’s expertise in magic they can easily beat her. Shao Kahn can easily break out of the kolusieum beast pen without thotdel’s help. He taught Shang Tsung soul magic and Shang tsung took Rev NW’s soul to heal himself fully so it’s not hard for Shao to do the same with the two Shokan beating him. His body was fine so he should be able to beat them using his other senses. After that, he gets his chapter all to himself, which is needed as he needs official wins to make him a threat. But no... they had to decrease his intelligence so thotdel can look like she’s playing a massive role when she isn’t. She’s just taking away other characters’ credibility in the process. Kinda sad how they made her a plot convenience. They could made og sindel take down SK along with her daughter, lead outworld’s army to defeat netherealm’s army and help FGLK defeat with the other remaining heroes but I guess that was too hard to think of.

Ngl, they actually fooled me in the first half after they restored her humanity and explained that she was bewitched by Quan-Chi. I actually cheered thinking "Yes! They listened to the fan outcry and fixed the retcon!" (Even though in the process retconning her suicide into being murdered by Quan-Chi which tbh I was okay with) But it wasn't until she made that ill remark about Raiden that I slowly felt my heart sink slowly thinking to myself "Wait a minute, Sindel never had a issue with Raiden in the past." Then the awful truth dawned on me: They're actually making her non-canon ending canon. And I told myself 4th Snake is gonna flip lol

What sucks is that they could have explained her line against Raiden as being traces of her Revenant side, or even extreme loyalty to her family. Rev Liu Kang and Rev Kitana blamed Raiden for getting them killed, and all that happened thanks to MK9 with the whole "He Must Win" debacle. Sindel could hold the fact that Kitana is currently dead and a revenant against Raiden considering that all had to do with letting Shao Kahn almost take over Earthrealm like he did with Edenia. But nah she's just a bitch queen.

Arcade ending events are non-canon, but character/lore reveals have always been canon. Kung Lao, Smoke, Noob, etc. The time between her release and Aftermath allowed me to vent out all the anger/frustration in time to actually appreciate what they were going for here, even if it's still shit compared to OG Sindel. I wasn't as mad as others cause I never overlooked the arcade ending.

I'd argue that someone like Sektor or Frost were more one dimensional than Shao Kahn or especially Shang Tsung. Eh, it depends which kind of fan you'd be. One that doesn't care that much because they got stale and jumped the shark years ago, or one that hopped on in later years and have a deeper connection with the newer games up to a certain point. @Shellpox to be fair, he was killed by lui kang in MK9 and had to be revived by quan chi and made a clone of himself for Armageddon (I think, I'm a new mk fan trying to catch up) in case anyone defeated him. Raided was ready to kill him if Lui Kang didn't at the tournament, but at the time of the ending he was stronger especially since he was/is a god who gained more strength from QuanChi and from newly absorbing earthrealm. Raided didn't fight back because his amulet wasn't fixed so he didn't try to fight until the elder gods stepped in after doing a piss poor job at whatever the fuck they do.

He had a retcon where apparently he’s some compassionate individual which is not in his character at all. Basically he would’ve killed sindel if he was the og version as he would’ve sused her out on the plan to make him her bitch and only gives a fuck about conquering . It's honestly heartbreaking that they ruined Sindel. She's always been my favorite and there was always something refreshing about her being kind of intimidating to look at, but deep down she was a benevolent Queen and mother. The whole "She's always been evil now" seems like a cheap twist - nothing more. The character has no depth, no tragedy and is completely irredeemable. I find it amazing that Netherealm can go to such extents with fan service - like having Sindel use her original MK3 stance or include her Kwan-Do from Deception, yet re-write her entire character so her whole story up to this point was for nothing! WTF

Following the new story: Sindel is with Jerrod and have Kitana, then during the time Shao Kahn tries to conquer Edenia she falls in love with him and kills Jerrod, then makes Shao take Kitana as his daughter (she loves her daughter, not as much as power but she loves her), she starts her facade as a benevolent queen and fools all the edenians, then she's killed by Quan Chi and the story of her suicide helps her facade. After MK2 she's resurrected and joins Shao Kahn for the invasion during UMK3, but he's defeated and Edenia is free from Outworld, she sees an opportunity to rule Edenia and keep the power to herself as Queen, with her daughter Kitana being her second in command, as we see in MK4/G. From MK4 to MKAr now that she's the ruler, doesn't ally herself with Shao Kahn (sees him as weak) and after bonding with Kitana (she was a child when Sindel was killed so this was actually the first time they interact and can develop a relationship), maybe she changes for good or if she stays "evil", she just wants to keep her position as Queen of Edenia so she helps in the battle against Onaga, either option works. For MK11, why would she ally with Shang and Shao Kahn instead of Kitana? my bet is for power, with Kitana as Kahn of Outworld, all the power falls on Kitana, not Sindel, besides she was just resurrected so she didn't bond with her like in the OT (MK4 - MKAr).

Why would you expose yourself without having your trump card at hand? - What does the crown do? How does it work? Why does it weaken Fujin? Why writting a consistent magic item is so hard? - Why did the shokan instantly fall for Sindel's lies? Have they ever seen Kitana SKIN SOMEONE ALIVE? - Why are monks, demons and shokan fighting UNARMED? We know they have weapons... and those exist for a goddamn reason. - On the same line: Why doesn't ANYONE wear armor? Come on people, even a thick shirt is better against bladed weapons than your skin! - Why is Sindel the "only one" that can stand up to Cetrion? How? - How and why did Kronika banish Fujin and Nightwolf? I have like a dozen more questions, but the fact there are so many weird, bad and wrong choices... 1. For an entertaining story if the spliting of time either didn't happen or came later the games story would be a lot more cut and paste. 2. Ditto the crown is a meguffin of sorts the crown empowers kronika and others by amplifying their powers as it is seen only doing. It empowers their abilities but at the cost of weakening them shortly after if you don't know how to correctly use it. 3. Again plot convenience every game and movie has plot convenience I feel that was on the extreme side but throughout mk11 we see that all background characters are dumb and easily swayed and as it serves the story even though it annoyed me I still found it a fun consept. 4. The minks and shokan are unarmed again to make an interesting story it is so minor and nut picky I didn't notice it it so fluid in mk11 story that people use weapons secondary to knives and fists except for earthworlders if everyone welded rpg's spears and ak47's it would be less entertaining to watch. 5. It was common in real medieval kombat that people wore little armour as it was expensive it was rarer to see people with protective armour then not in hand to hand kombat. 6. A mix of plot convince, entertainment value and because the writers use her clear above average strength as an excuse she did almost wipe out earthrealm so the idea that she is powerful enough to wound cetrion when teamed up with shang tsung and fujin is very believable especially when the crown allows bot briggs.to harm cetrion. 7. The story explains it she tried to recruit them both by trying to manipulate their past and when they refused she threw them into the void in a if I can't have you no one can kind of move. MK Deception will always be my favourite game in all the franchise. Yeah the games today play very well and have great fighting mechanics and graphics... but between the huge content to unlock, multi-tiered stages, the amazing conquest mode, some very cool endings and character stories and a cool new villian(I might be a big fan of MK but I was already tired of always fighting Shao Kahn) and the fact that we got to finally see not only the good Sindel released from Shao Khan's spell but also Ermac being one of the good guys will always make Deception my favourite. We also got the most badass versions of Scorpion and Sub-zero storywise in my opinion, it's just a shame they weren't friends there like they are now, that would have made Deception perfect for me.

It's not that she was "unable to". It's just that in that specific series of events, she didn't. She could have, but Cassie got the better of her this time. The way I see it, all characters in Mortal Kombat have the potential to beat all other characters, some match-ups more favorable whereas others are close to even, but nobody has absolutely no shot, despite what they may lead you to believe. It all depends on how the fight plays out.

That was actually one thing I was excited about Aftermath for as NR has known and heard that fans DO NOT LIKE this new version of Sindel so I thought they would use this DLC as a chance to undo things and bring her back in line with who she originally was and for the first act it seemed they were going that route BUT THEN Chapter 14 comes and shows they instead doubled down and I hated every single second of that section to the point I was actively rooting for Kronica to win and it was such schadenfreude to see Shang suck out both their souls. I hate this version of Sindel and in the next game if they bring her back I want her ORIGINAL character.

A few things. 1. Shang Tsung knowing how to "revive" Sindel without Quan Chi doesn't surprise me. Past games revealed that Quan Chi was heavily tied into the work and magic of Shinnok. MK 11 revealed that Shinnok was the son of Kronika and a big part of her plans. Aftermath revealed that Shang Tsung was the brains behind the crown she needed for her "new era" plans. That could be how he learned the magic needed to change Sindel. 2. I vaguely remember the 3 revenants revived in MKX going through at least some kind of outfit change during their resurrection. That makes it easier to buy Sindel undergoing a similar wardrobe change. 3. A while back, I watched a video that talked about She-Hulk undergoing a design change that ignored her prior personality and made her come across as far too similar to Hulk, the most prominent male character she is viewed in connection to. The reasons for that change were implied to focus more on her appearance than her character. Sound familiar? 4. Does anything from Aftermath rule out the idea that Shao Kahn faked a history with this version of Sindel to keep her on his side? Or that Shang Tsung messed with both of their minds to mislead the heroes away from breaking his hold? I mean, for all the talk about Sindel being resurrected without mind control, the game never shows any scenes of anyone actually testing her to confirm 1 way or the other.

All we really know is what Quan Chi said in MK9 that he could resurrect Sindel and make her more agreeable. "Agreeable" in what sense according to MK 11, Sindel says she kill Jarrod. I'd say there were things about aftermath i liked, and it really comes down to... 1. We are finally playing as more than 1 villian at least. 2. Short answer: NO. LONG ANSWER: HELL NO. To me, NRS Mortal Kombat is just a cheesy in-universe action flick written by Johnny Cage. That's why everyone is out of character. Cage figured that evil Sindel would be sexier and would sell more tickets, so he wrote her that way. All the evil characters are forced to cooperate on the movie shoot after Liu Kang defeated Shao Kahn and Onaga, and Raiden defeated Shinnok with Cetrion and Kronika's blessing. This takes place after Armageddon where Liu Kang and Raiden won, and they just wish that everything is A-OK.

On the video where I watch the cutscenes, I saw one comment that explained how they were glad to see Shao-Kahn lose because from their perspective he's just an asshole who isn't actually powerful. Sindel's release was like a trashfire that's been burning because of her new ... ekhm... "character". Aftermath was a chance to put that fire down and reafirm everyone that all is well. And it seemed like it at first. Chapter 14 shows that this is indeed a real Sindel, NRS actually realized what a collosall fckup this new Sindel is. Rejoice! We got a real queen back! ... Little did we know NRS had gas tank behind their back this entire time and decided to throw it into the fire in chapter 16 and blow up the entire thing apart. As soon as I saw that an entire chapter was dedicated to Sindel and Shao Kahn fucking everything up and I saw that my last actual main in MK11 Kotal was on that boat, I knew what was going to happen, the whole Aftermath storyline just comes across as some rejected Game of Thrones-esque fanfic written in the style of someone who's only read My Immortal who wanted an excuse to kill off the newbies because they weren't marquee characters. It's that bad to me that it has now made me swear off maining any new characters in any franchise as it just seems the only reason they're there is that the devs need a quota to fill for new characters only to kill off when inevitably they get bored and decide to go back to the status quo.

So the new writers are responsible for "Kabal used to be Kanos goon" thing? Also... One of his interaction lines with Robocop said that "I thought of being a cop once." eventhough he clearly was working with Stryker in Mk9? But about Sindel tho. We don't know yet if Shang Tsung lied about "she will be her more heroic self when we revive her" which could be the reason Quan Chi is needed for the resurrection since he truly is the one who can remove the revenants evil side. I dunno tho. This is what I think. Great video tho!

Considering how the series is getting rebooted after MK 11, I have a pitch in mind for how Sindel could be fix (which is part of a bigger pitch I have for MK new continuity) : Much like in the original series, she would be a Queen who commited suicide and had her soul stolen by Shao Khan. After losing the two tournaments (both the MK 1 and 2), Shao Khan would use Sindel as back up plan, resurrecting and brainwashing her so she could open the portal for his soldiers to invade Earthrealm. While Liu Kang and some warriors would be battling Shao Khan in his fortress, Kitana, Jade and other warriors would be fighting against Sindel. There would a duel between Kitana and Sindel, with Sindel almost killing her if not for the intervention of Ermac, who helps Kitana break her mother free from Shao Khan's control and then disappear, not knowing why he help his master enemies (more on that later). Once free, Sindel would help the earthrealm heroes defeat Khan and would reunite with her daughter, despite Sindel not feeling she earned her daughter 'slove and people's acceptance. She would repay this kindness not just by becoming a ally of the earthrealm warrior, but also playing a role in Ermac character arc, revealing that one of the souls used to create was Ermac was the soul of her husband, Jerrod, hence why he started to act weird when he interact with Kitana and when Sindel was resurrected. It was Jerrod's soul taking the forefront . This would help Ermac break free from Khan's control and join Sindel in battle against Onaga, saving their daughter. In the end, Ermac would return with Kitana and Sindel, to Edenia as it's rightfull king.

I always wondered how'd she'd cope with the guilt of leaving Kitana behind to protect Earthrealm and the guilt of actually killing Kitana and her allies under Quan Chi's spell and how she would react with Shao Khan in the rage she felt. I longed for the day she would get her revenge against him and they pull this...
