Actually am glad they didn't. Because they ruined the lore of that episode with this one. Spongebob in SB-129 is Spongetron and this SpongeBob is just not that. Also the Krusty crab wasn't closed it's also implied and theorized SB-129 takes place after the movie so there's 2 Krusty crabs. and this episode just screwed everything up. They pretty much don't care about any of the world building or lore anymore and it's sad.

So probably this PL episode is one of the results of that distortion. And that in other timeline we got a different Chrome future where Spongetron exist instead of the cube with wheel Spongebob

I wasn’t scared of much as a kid, but watching “SB-129” at night would always put me on edge, with the Caveman era Sponge Bob and Patrick looking so gross and scary, and of course the iconic “Alone” into a panic attack. Then when Squidward breaks the lever in the time machine and Squidward just begs to go home as everything breaks around him. My fear could have been linked to me having a fear of getting lost and never finding my way back home as a kid, but I will never forget how this episode both intrigued and disturbed me, it’s still my of my favorite episode, but when I rewatch it I think about how strange this episode really is.

My main problem about the recent SpongeBob episodes is that they rely heavily on nostalgia way too much instead of writing episodes about exploring with the already established characters and seeing something new that we haven’t seen before in the show. I’m not saying SpongeBob is a bad show since I grew up with it throughout my childhood. I just think that making an episode with nostalgia pandering all around doesn’t make it good. Gotta say, the backgrounds in this show are still peak awesome, and - we doing this again? Really? Like, I can’t even be angry that they’re dragging out another classic episode to do a sequel to anymore, because the plots range from: a) callbacks to older episodes/characters or b) nautical nonsense. That is it. Getting mad feels pointless because of course they’re gonna do this, this is their brand now. I’m halfway expecting them to pull out the mermaid ticket taker or the whale from one of the movie trailers or Captain Bart and his crew for a plot when they’ve really run out of ideas like they did with Kevin the Sea Cucumber. And if they really wanna reference it then have Squidward say something like "Hey I've seen you guys before". Then instead of the present characters exploring the future for like the 4th time, have the future characters look at the past For other episodes: For I guess Band Geeks, have a new unseen foe of Squidwards band class(not Squiwillam) pop up and criticise Squidward. Maybe make it so that they have to compete. Squidward would now remember the last time this happened and be extra confident

honestly forgot how shit the camp coral characters look. like i don't wanna say obviously she looks photoshopped cause shows like gumball or smiling friends blend different artstyles seemlessly but there was just no attempt at making her match the lighting of the scene, something piss easy for 3D models. even ignoring that though i just hate detailed fur on simple proportions, all the elements should have a similar level of detailing, like her swimsuit has no texture at all, looks so fucking jarring.

Tbh when I heard they were doing a time travel plot starring Plankton, I was thinking they’d probably just do an episode where he repeatedly uses the time machine to try and steal the formula, just to fail every time, Groundhog Day style; probably escalating into a climactic, chaotic scene where he uses the Planktons from all the past attempts to storm the Krusty Krab, and fail again. But no. For all the talk about this being a hyperactive ADHD show, some episodes somehow aren’t hyperactive *enough*. Not to mention, this episode’s references to SB-129 aren’t even skin deep. It just takes the title card and chrome aesthetics from that episode, but no actual references to what happened in the future scene in SB-129. Just imagine if during one of the times Plankton goes back to try again, his time machine flies past Squidward’s.
