4:30 This is so fucking important even for really small projects. Studying game dev at uni rn and we had a project which spanned a semester where we'd create a game in a team from scratch. We got our pitch done but we never really nailed down every single detail, just the general vibe. Made creating the game a living hell since you'd spend a week creating some feature just to find out it directly clashes with soneone elses work and you'd both have to redo it. Probably months of work in total which was just never included since it wasn't alligned with what others in the group thought the game would be. Pre-production might feel kinda boring sometimes, especially if you just want to get on with the coding instead of having hours and hours of meetings. But it might be the most important part of creating a game when working in a group of people.
@st.lucient47558 күн бұрын
The importance of a game director to have one vision is important in making a cohesive product/experience IN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME. You can just keep butting heads "democratically" in a team and eventually find a middle ground, but you'll find that it wastes so much time, resources and energy doing so. (Spare from rare cases where everyone already has the same idea) In experimental phases like uni, this is fine. But in real world, this is what creates 5-8 years of development hell. This kind of development hell pushes dev cost to baloon and forces you to either expect ending up with a loss OR jacking your product with monetizing in hopes to recoup your cost, or profit. Wishing good luck on your studies and hope you go on to make big things for us to play in the future !

It's not a confirmed budget, plenty of journalists have debunked those rumors. The 400 million likely comes from the funding ProbablyMonsters had acquired and used to fund three development studios (Firewalk, Hidden Grove, and Battle Barge). Firewalk (concord) was bought by playstation in 2023 for an undisclosed amount but likely added a bit more funding for the game, so a 100~150 million figure for the game makes more sense, still a lot of money but not near 400 million.

My favorite part about it being a “streamer game” is that someone can still watch a streamer play the entire game, but still play it and have fun as well (unlike something like the Stanley Parable which would just be ruined by a gameplay video)
@greenoftreeblackofblue66259 күн бұрын
Yes but fuck no dummy that's how it got big and people got interested through the natural discovery of KZbin videos
@trevor2459 күн бұрын
I understand your point but I think Stanley Parable in particular is such a polished and intricate game that you are bound to find new things in your own playthrough unless you are watching like 20 people play it. Any other walking sim and your argument holds....
@athor-w1v9 күн бұрын
There is an argument to be made about spoilers vs visibility of the game, as when streamers play the game they are introducing it to a wider audience, but narrative games would mostly be bought by viewer because they watched the playthrough and not to actually play the game.

@@gomjabbar6246 Sure, but 100k CAD is really low for a year worth of two devs - if you become a software dev and you're accepting that low of a salary you should really find a new job. Biggest problem I ran into was the player gets worse accerlation on the steam deck's thumbsticks on default settings. I needlessly struggled through the first part of the game and only noticed I wasn't getting enough speed at the unpaid intern ramps section. Switching to an external controller, and/or getting on my pc fixed the issue. I feel like this problem would be hard to track since streamers would be playing it on pcs, and people who returned it might have just thought the game was too hard instead of finding out they weren't getting good inputs ingame.

(tbf only haved played getting over it, pogostuck, and this) It ticks the little counter strike surfing gremlin in my brain which i loved, but still there was a lot of effort and it was funny. The biggest complaint I think would be that the later levels didn't have enough detail in the environment and felt dry compared to the earlier parts. Edit: OMG Yeah I got the chair bug cause we just wanted to see if we could drag it along and I flew across the map, it was so funny (2nd try it crashed the game) honestly yall should keep it.

The people who see it are his viewers and only a certain percentage of them actually buy it. Then there is the people who are streaming and their viewers. Then there are random people on the market who decided to check it out. The steam algorithm will bury a game if not promoted outside of steam.
