literally just had a similar conclusion. it actually makes way more sense for x to be a perfect clone of robin. minus the hero personality. both x and robin have the same voice actor, body type, interest in starfire, style of motorcycle and fighting style etc etc. the x episode appears 2 episodes after the death of slade during the terra arc. he was probably a clone created by slade to be the apprentice he originally wanted robin to be. after slade died, x escaped wherever he was and pursued his own identity. grabbed the red x suit and the rest is history! even the race episode helps allude to this. x being the number 1 rival to robin in that episode was no accident. he was trying to steal robins secret because its his as well. the reason why hes so ok with giving it up and letting robin win probably also goes back to him owning the x identity and allowing robin to be robin. since x already knows what the secret is (he shares robins memories), he isnt even driven by curiosity and has no need for it. if not for the shows cancelation, im sure a future episode explaining the origin of X would have surfaced around the same time slade made a comeback (since he came back to life).

Well... I don't know about "lost his way" which may be subjective to the persons own reasons, but I ALSO have speculated that it was in fact another robin from some other universe. but.. maybe it was a little TOO crazy of an idea. some of the comments above have made a more appealing theory that the suite itself has come to life by the stuff that it was powered by, or that he was some kind of clone made by slade. I think these theory's are more solid than the idea that he was from some other universe.

To tell the truth, I have wanted to know who was the first to take the suit from Robbin in the cartoon, but it continued to be vastly far more interesting not to know. On a side note: I liked one of the ideas Beat Boy presented. That the new Red X was another Robbin from another dimension, that had got stuck in their world. This to me, would make seance, seeing how he knows just as much about all the Teen Titan, including Robbin, as Robbin did. And he moved and sounded just like Robbin as though to two was one in the same. He knew Robbin had the suit hidden, instead of destroying it. He knew where it was hidden. And he knew how to get to it. He also knew about the power locator. Things that only Robbin would know of, aside for the other Titans. And if he was a copy of Robbin in some way, made it all the better, not to know. I get to keep my idea as is, without ever being wrong or right.

The think the more simple and probable answer was the one the series pointed to twice. It's just Jason running around being edgy. He fights like Dick because Bruce trained them both, he knows how to play the hero because he was Robin too, he's voiced by the same guy as call out to him being another Robin, and Beast Boy writes down that he could be Jason (which means that Jason is running around alive and edgy in that universe) and also calls him Jason in a short released some time before TTGO came out.

Watching through the video now, but someone had mentioned that on one of the bd (blue ray disc?) for the series they claimed he was just a random thief. Then in the comics we have Brick. However I've always imagined him to be a clone of Robin or that Robin we know is a clone. The only problem with the Jason Todd theory, is that Jason didnt become robin till Dick was nightwing. Before that, he was a street rat. He didnt have any training and Batman literally found him trying to jack the Batmobiles wheels. Thats all he knew. And i dont believe that him and Dick are the same age. Plus, like this guy said that Red X and Robin have similar fighting styles, and acrobatic skill. Jason didnt have either of those. He ddint fight like Dick, he didnt move like Dick, he wasnt like Dick at all. Tim Drake was a little bit more like Robin, but i dont think he was even alive when Dick was robin. Another thing: Red X ended up helping Robin quite a few times. Jason wouldn't have done that. Mercy and kindness were never really his strog suits. My point is, Jason Todd, just doesnt make sense for this character

ehh it depends on how you want to swing it. one can argue that Teen Titans is set immediately after Grayson leaves batman, which he basically says as much in the series, saying hes come to a new town to go solo, etc. if that's the case it's possible that Bruce replaced him before he designed and finalized his new look/identity. this is plausible but inherently means we'd be talking pre-Death in the Family Jason Todd, ie he is actively working with bruce, either going through training or already active on the street as Robin, while being Red X. we could mark up the similarity in their fighting styles to simply be indicative that they were both trained by the batman, hence why you see them synchronize those flying drop kicks for example, they were both taught the same styles/forms/combat applications by the same master, hence why they tend to default to the same strike and counters. compare it to say, ryu and ken from street fighter, both have virtually identical movesets with slight variation because both were taught by the same master. as to red x helping robin and saying "Jason todd wouldn't do that", Which Jason? because we constantly talk about him being jason todd but always assume the red hood angle. but if this is pre-nightwing, it's definitely pre-lazarus pit for jason, and therefore pre red hood. we have to assume we're talking about 2nd Robin era Jason Todd, in which case helping dick isn't off the table. people say jason todd would be too young, but look at how young robin is in this universe when he goes solo. batman now has a problem, in that at the same time as billionaire bruce wayne's ward moves out of town robin mysteriously leaves batman's service. he can't replace dick grayson to maintain his cover, but he can replace robin, it makes sense that Bruce would pick up Jason quickly to have robin return to batman's side and would get someone roughly the same age, so that people wouldn't make the connection(most people don't get a good look at either of them due to how bruce operates). this tracks with jason's Pre-Crisis origins where he had red hair and Bruce made him dye it black so he looked like dick, he needed Robin to look the same because jason doesn't look like dick. if dick leaves bruce and then this new ginger kid shows up, and suddenly there is a new robin that's a redhead, that's a problem. but if Bruce's new Ward is ginger and Robin has black hair still, then even if people see the new robin and the more observant realize he isn't grayson, they still won't make the Bruce Wayne connection. with all this in mind, it's entirely possible that in this universe Jason the same age or slightly older than dick, is active as robin in gotham and is Moonlighting as Red X to continue satisfying his criminal compulsions. his focus on robin could be a sort of self testing, measuring himself against grayson, similar to what damien did after becoming robin.

I agree with most of this, but Jason not having mercy or kindness as a strongsuit isn't true. He cares a lot about the innocent, and the people close to him. He just doesn't have mercy towards criminals who hurt others or break the law. It's just that his moral compassion with killing is different, not that he doesn't have those strong suits. This is shown pretty well throughout TN52, Rebirth, and the webtoon comic. Especially bc since he was a street rat, he understands what it's like to be in that situation.

TBH, I've narrowed it down to Dick Grayson and...Dick Grayson. Okay, that requires an explanation. Talon is the Earth-3 (the evil universe) version of Dick Grayson. (Tim Drake just goes by Drake because Tim isn't really the supergenius everyone thinks he is; basically Dick and Tim have "Barry and Wally" energy going on in hte main universe.) But he's not completely evil. Now a quick disclaimer here: The following deals with a particularly bad era of Teen Titans. Comics in general sucked in the early 90s, and specifically for going the antiheroic route and running it into the ground. There are these Titans from the future (who are also pretty antiheroic). It's a terrible future ruled by an evil god called Lord Chaos who uses drugs to control everyone. But 600 Titans will fight against him. And after he's gone, there's another villain called Lazarium, who was one of them. Meanwhile, Kole (who should be dead) keeps showing up with no explanation, and Phantasm tells Nightwing your true enemy is one you thought dead. There's also a second Terra. Oh, speaking of Nightwing, one of the Team Titans replaces Starfire to kill Donna Troy before she gives birth to Lord Chaos. And, yeah, that means Dick Grayson was raped twice. It would happen 11 years later in his solo comic. Ultimately the Team Titans were just pawns by Hawk, now calling himself Extant, so he and Hal Jordan could tighten the time loop and micromanage the next run-through so nothing bad ever happens. Everybody wins. Hal says that a lot. Along with "I'm not crazy" which is never a good sign. After Hawk's plan is over, all but three no longer exist. The fallen Grayson, Mirage (who has one Dick Grayson's baby, I seriously want local telepath and clairvoyant and all around troll Lilith Clay to walk up to her and, so sweetly because she can see future memes as well, say "Is this loss?") Oh, but the reason Mirage, Terra, and the rechristened Deathwing (Yeah, not even Blightwing? Dude!) are still alive because they're not from that world. They were created by the Time Trapper as sleeper agents because SOMEONE was having a powerful effect on time, enough to destroy it. Okay, moving on, who is Red X then? Well, Red X is their field leader, the fake Nightwing. In the comic, this Dick Grayson in the future is like, 40, and dating that girl who raped the real Nightwing. Then he's corrupted by Raven (who is evil again at the time, and that corruption has rape motifs) and turns evil. None of this is necessary here, but Red X could be him. But Red X is definitely a version of Robin. It's just that main-continuity options all suck because Jason, Tim, and Damian are all younger than him, and Jason was short (probably from malnutrition and all that smoking) before the Lazarus pit. Jason at 14 was shorter than Tim at 14, even. And Tim is smol.

Ok, here's a crazy theory I thought of so just bare with me. Red X is the illegitimate son of Joker, but before he became Joker. So let me explain a better way. As many may already know, Joker used to be a regular guy trying to be a comedian to support his wife but ended up becoming a patsy by a group of gangsters. During that time he went under the persona as the Red Hood who was notorious for being a thief, stealing from several businesses all around Gotham. So my theory is that Red Hood had an affair and impregnated someone before he fell into the vat of acid and became the Joker we know today. So during sometime in the child's life, he discovered that he's the son of the original Red Hood and decided to follow in his father's footsteps to become a professional thief. Here's why I thought of this theory: Red X and Red Hood both have a red theme to their personas, they're both criminal thieves not looking to destroy anyone just steal from them, and both have some kind of rivalry with members of the Bat Family: Joker/Red Hood has Batman and Red X has Robin. Also from the Teen Titans cartoon, some of Red X's dialogue to Robin is similar to how Joker taunts Batman, for example: "Kid, you take things way too seriously." and "Lighten up chuckles, I'm not so bad once you get to know me." It's a long shot theory, but its one that I like.

I love the Shredder-like approach for this villain, but Slade is the wrong antagonist for this role. RED-X should've been the original villain, but as a full-grown incognito man who is Robin's main nemesis and former leader who enslaves Robin as a "Red-X Apprentice". Slade on the other hand should've still been the same Slade "Deathstroke" Wilson as he was originally written and portrayed in the DC Comics.

What if Red X is not a person but the suit. Like Doctor Fate. So the one wearing the suit? The mannequin Robin put the suit on when he locked it away. So you get something like The Red Tornado with no powers. A cross of 2 heroes? The cross/X, Red X!?

Honestly I do believe you can reveal red X's identity images satisfying but I think that that's way of doing it is by making right X identity being someone from the show or someone there rights from the show and you can always just make it Jason but put it in Jason's timeline by saying it's either in the in-between time before he heads back to Gotham or you can say it's during the rough patch he has with Batman before he dies

@Madboygamer. if you look st the white board that beast boy draws up in one of the episodes after Robin sealed away the red x suit and someone stole it. Jason is one of those names on the board. By the time dick is nightwing we can assume Tim is the new Robin since Jason is believed to be dead by the start of the teen titans show.

Hell Red x could be Catwoman for all I know. Red x is an expert thief, Catwomans an expert thief. She probably came to jump city to check on the Titans specifically Robin without them knowing for Batmans sake. Whoever it is in the show can still be revealed if they bring back the original series. Can't be jason cause he would be a child at this point cause he's younger than Dick. It's unclear if he's (Jason) met Batman yet. He is Taller than the others but that's when he becomes an Adult. When he was still robin he was shorter than Dick.

He literally ripped it off Robin. Also, Tim wasn't really a genius until the New 52. If anything, he was a Dick Grayson superfan more than anything. He also wasn't particularly brooding before, well, Bruce brainwashed him, he saw himself as an avatar of Anti-Life, Steph died, Kon died, Bart died.... And Tim is young and smol. And Dick Grayson still wouldn't be Robin. (There's literally more evidence that this Robin is Tim than there is that Red X is, and even that's quite the reach, since Marv Wolfman wrote the original 80s comic for Dick Grayson, the only Robin at the time.)

But in universe if this Jason were the same anyway how does Beast Boy even know his name to begin with. I can see how he knows about Nightwing.
