@@Erinybop that could also be because, while divorce is allowed in Islam, a lot of muslims don't like the idea of getting one and would rather stay in an unhappy relationship (don't think of big "modern" cities, in small villages this topic is still a taboo). I actually know a few people in that situation. Of course that doesn't apply to everybody, I guess halal dating would make things easier for some people while others would never do it

In my culture you can date, but a man has to be interviewed by the mother, father and grand parents of the girl before he may propose. And the woman must (unofficially) be accepted by the mother and aunts/sisters/female cousins before they let the man propose. This is because, to us, a marriage is first and foremost a blending of two families. We all have to be on the same page about wanting to be family. I am not just marrying a man, I am marrying his entire family, and he is marrying my entire clan. I could never marry someone if I didn’t get along with his family, and I’d never marry someone my family didn’t like. And I’d never marry someone who didn’t have the same mindset as me. Thankfully I found someone like this, and thankfully I worked hard to get the approval of the women in his family. They are strong and creative and I had to show that I was creative and could properly hold my own against and man. And my partner and my father are basically best friends at this point. My dad may like him more than me 🙄

@@Rosiejanedoe if there’s no one to interview then he just gets to propose. But one would assume she has siblings or god parents, cousins aunts and uncles, family friends, and friends of her own. My friend is an orphan and has a bad relationship with her aunt and uncle. Her husband asked us, and we made him also ask her two dogs for fun. He bribed them with cheese, the sleazy cheat.

I just wondered if you did talk like about personal values, and perspective of life, and everything... Like, how did they know each other without dating (the important thing of dating is precisely the time you spend with the person and talk, and get to know fully the person- but people use to date sometimes just to get fun and I think christians in general and a few people more do it for the right purpose-) Another thing I don't understand is why they say it wasn't allow to marry each other, as far as I know Muslims can marry christians and Jews, the only thing is that christians couldn't do the same but I think catholic people it's not so much like that, idk if I'm wrong with that last affirmation.
