Having experienced multiple VR headsets, I consider the specs of the Vision Pro to be the absolute minimum necessary for a great experience. Vision would therefore need to replace it with the same specs and Vision Pro would need an upgraded second version. If they don't do this, the experience of Vision users would suffer. I have no idea how they would pull this off and offer a Vision for a good price considering the cost of the components.

Jonathan (and team), I really hope you know how good these videos are. I have no Mac or Apple products in my life, but I watch almost every Mac Address video that comes out because I like tech and I like to keep informed. So much of Jonathan's conversation style and cadence reminds me of Linus' "Walk in the rain" video (I have some things to say - Core i9 & X299) from 6 years ago. It's easy to digest, well written, well filmed and well edited. Thanks to you all.

Well, yes and no... I would say Mac Address with Jonathan sets a standard, the rest of the LMG channels cannot live up to... and that is because the style is systematically different to a video with Linus. Mac Address with Jonathan is critical and aware of its subjectivity, in contrast to being opinionated and insisting on false objectivity.

You summed up my reactions perfectly on the new Vision Pro! The silence of the pre-produced announcement, the weird-looking eyes on the outside screen, the uncanny valley avatar. But also, the subtle focus on people living in pods and not interacting with each other. They have family that come up and talk to them, but even there one daughter sticks her tongue out at her father who’s not looking at his daughter, but some screen on his face. And with the Mac, the iPod, and the iPhone you could show what you had on it to your friends and family that was right there with you. You could both look at the same screen, share the headphones, etc. How’s movie night going to be with the Vision Pro? You and your girl sitting stiffly in the sofa with a Vision Pro each, watching a movie through share play despite being in the same room?

@Globalnet626
@Globalnet626 11 ай бұрын
It can do it because of foveated rendering. It's really the killer tech that is capable of bringing VR and ar experiences 10 years forward by cheating how we see things. By using the eye tracker to understand where you are looking, you can pump the resolution of that area to 100x while silently scaling back on the peripheries because our eyes can't physically focus and see the lack of sharpness on those regions.

Not only that, but when you're watching videos, it'll darken the room and simulate the glow of light from a television on the surrounding surfaces. Plus, it'll do audio raytracing on your actual room, taking into account how different materials reflect sound to accurately simualate a real-life surround sound system as well. Cool stuff!

What would be interesting to me is Accessibility features: For the deaf/hearing impaired; live SUBTITLES maybe? For the blind/vision impaired: perhaps recognition of facial expressions? Or recognizing/narrating which product you're holding (is it a can of soup or a can of worms)? (Much like the apps that assist the vision impaired already, ya know?) . For the motion impaired, will there be alternative ways to interact with the content in front of you? (Like blinking, or however that Stephen Hawking thing worked?) Seeing as you can see the wearer's eyes, this device should be a prime candidate for human-to-human interaction... Not just 'multiple displays like minority report'... (although that feature is, objectively, dope AF)

The device that Stephen Hawking used worked by eye tracking, but it was extremely slow with him having to use pre planned sentences for interviews. We are now at the point in science where the Vision pro and PSVR2 use the same eye tracking idea but can do it so fast it is practically in real time to a human being.
@iggysixx

@@IngwiePhoenix I think laser surgery, or even obtaining eyeballs on the black market (also: much like minority report :)), might be cheaper than the inserts you'd need :P . I wonder if there are limits to the thickness, or if they'll simply cover "if it's available as regular glasses... It's available as inserts." (Btw.. +23.. That means you're practically blind to anything up close, right..? Did it turn out that 'playing with oneself' does in fact make you go blind...? (: Or are you welding without goggles or something? Crossbow arrow to the eye? Snorkeling in frying oil..? Or simply born to rock the sh*t out of those thick glasses, and to set an example for the people; 'see? these babies CAN be sexy"

@iggysixx 11 ай бұрын
@@InsightfulUndercurrents Zeiss is pretty good, I'd say. (And I AM digging the insert idea. Think they will offer a blacked out one, for people who are missing an eye?) My guess is the price will be based on how difficult the lenses are to manufacture (and how much material is needed); the more custom it is, the higher the price - like with regular glasses.

2:08 it's always bugged me when people use this as a put down on 'not being in the moment'. Most people aren't recording the whole thing, as in the example a concert, they're recording a snippet as a thing to become a tag against a memory, something you can look at down the line to go 'oh yeah! I remember that concert!' and then reciting it from memory and enjoying that moment in your mind or sharing the story. People are far too judgemental on people doing this and I don't understand why. In a concert that spans several hours, taking a 10-30 second video to act as a memento makes sense to me, an aid to help you remember the atmosphere more vividly than a pure memory, but not reliant on it. When it comes to the headset however, that is a different topic entirely and more true to the segments intention as there is far more layers between you and reality at that point, in both the physical and digital sense.

If he could use that thing at birthday parties and no one cared, I think the headset will be accepted relatively quickly if (IF) the 3D photos takes off. And as I said, for some this will be an absolute game changer. think it might be a while before it does actually replace what I am using at the moment, not least of all because I have multiple screens! I think it looks awesome and I can't wait for the actual use videos, but again, for most of us, why??

One thing that immediately comes to mind for me is if we were looking at a situation where we wanted to enjoy a guest inclusive movie night, you’d need to be able to share the display in a way where it is still fixed in the room. Fixed AR, virtually installed in a way everyone can interact with at all times, in a universal way is a major need to avoid the isolation these goggles everyone is putting out are leaning in to.

The Mac Game Porting Toolkit is the most underrated announcement of the keynote. Combined with Kojima’s appearance and Death Stranding coming to the Mac, we could see the possibility of Mac gaming becoming a thing at last, at least I hope.

The section about wearing the Vision Pro during the precious moments instead of witnessing it with your own eyes is kinda weird. I somehow always find myself thinking about Return of the Jedi when Vader asks Luke to remove the helmet so he can see him with his own eyes once. Witnessing/Experiencing everything through a screen is just not the same. While the looking at the night sky demo section in the Vision Pro announcement was looking cool with the signs, it for sure will not feel the same as being outside somewhere with little artificial light around and looking at the sky.

You forgot to mention the ability to locate the Apple Remote in Find My. I've been waiting for that for years, losing the remote has been a meme before memes were a thing. As someone who has done some VR programming, I'm interested to see what the VisionPro is like. I've seen equally impressive looking presentations before so I'm still skeptical, but I think it's good that another major company is starting to look into it. I wonder if they can make the idea stick or it will be relegated to content consumption? Either way, the Mac Studio stayed the same price in the US, but went up $200 in Canada. So $2700 for a base M2 Studio, or I can get a refurb'd M1 Studio for $2060. Hmm.

One of the things I don't see mentioned about the outward facing eye screen... If you've ever scene Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the hallway scene with the parallax projector... It is physically impossible to create the impression of natural looking eyes through a display, unless the outward cameras are precisely tracking the other person's eyes and position... And even then, it is further impossible to recreate such an effect for more than 1 person at the same time.
@phoenixcraft9940

It's likely that the screen will provide an illusion of depth, assisted by the fact that the actual screen is slightly offset from the exterior glass. But it will definitely not be perfect, or even good.
@mynameissang
@mynameissang 11 ай бұрын
@@phoenixcraft9940 yes, I have no doubt they tried to implement some depth illusion effect. My point is that is is literally physically/optically impossible to make it look like just an actual transparent visor.

The Vision Pro looks nice. I get that headsets are likely the future of tech and they do interest me, but not enough to actually use one myself. Maybe some day. I do plan to swap my 2014 MacBook Pro for that new 15-inch MacBook Air, so I was happy to see that shown. Was really hoping for a AirPods Max 2 to be announced. That is a device I've been hoping would be announced all year and keep seeing rumors one is coming later this year or early next year. No official word yet. All of the software updates seem interesting. Not big on journals, but I think I might actually use that new app they showed off.

I admit, the Vision Pro's tech is pretty impressive but the price is way too much even for VR/AR enthusiasts imo. I was expecting at least $1500, perhaps they saving it for the SE version next year. EDIT: Yeah, I forgot about the M2 processor included. So, basically a standalone AR headset with Macbook Pro-like performance. So, kinda make sense for the price for the typical Apple pricing standard.
