I dealt with a situation similar to this. The neighbors moved and abandoned their cat. We started feeding her, giving her shelter and providing vet care for her. The neighbor returned four years later wanting her cat back even though she had no home and was just out of drug rehab. Needless to say, the cat wanted nothing to do with her. We still have the cat.

@@mikaylaward9408 as far as +20, I must be thinking of some of their cats age; but I don't recall any being under 10; thank you for letting me know; My dad's dog passed at 10 or 11 but she could've been cared for better (was allowed to be fat and lazy, a Pom that got over 12 lbs iirc), he loved her the way he loved himself, with food, she also had seizures from year 1 and I think had a mild airway issue common in smaller dogs. I guess she did well despite the diet and lounging. I'm still thinking the 7 years is too young, but I'll trust you on it :)

As a Great Dane owner, I am so outraged that this woman was willing to consider putting a vulnerable 2-month old Dane puppy in 'jail' rather than attempt to find her a good home. Good job on the defendant for stepping up. Danes are extremely sensitive animals and cannot be left alone. I hope the plaintiff NEVER gets another dog.

I was actually really happy to hear the defendant got the dog spayed, especially after the plaintiff stressed that the dog was a harlequin. I'm okay with people reputably breeding dogs, but I don't tolerate the ones who breed for money because their dog has a desirable physical trait. So glad the big girl lucked out of that one and found a home that loves her for who she is and not what money she can give them.

When I got married I had to leave my dog where I was living at my grandparents house for 2 months but I was over there everyday taking care of the her, walking ,feeding her, bringing food every week bringing toys, bringing treats. After the 2 months we finally found a place that we could have her at. And this year she turned 16 🥰 My point is if you have to leave a dog somewhere and you really care& love that dog you go over there every chance you can Even if it's before or after work. And as fast as you can find a place where you can have the dog with you If you really love that dog Don't wait years

Had a situation like this when I was a teenager. Friend got a cat and her mother said she could keep it if she could afford to take care of it. She lost her job and asked me to look after the cat. I took the cat to the vet, got her shots, cared for the cat and got her spayed. Once she got her job again, she wanted the cat back, and I asked her for the money to cover the vet bills and she said she didn't want to pay for it, and I told her I guess she really doesn't want to take care of the cat. The mother called me later on and told me to keep the cat because she's the one who bought it. I had my Baby Girl for 19 years before she passed.

Plaintiff "it cant be her family dog if she's willing to taking money" First the defendant deserves to be compensated for the money for food, vet care and supplies to take care of the dog. Second, the fact it took over a year to come back for the dog with maybe 2 visits (which she didn't protest) demonstrates abandonment, so it ain't your dog either.

We took fostered a 9 year old dog that was living outside with his drunkard owner. He was always "this close" to getting a roof over his head. Every few months we would take the dog to visit him. After a few years, he called and said that he got a $10,000 disability check and had a home for Gizmo the dog. So we let him have the dog. After 6 weeks he called and said that he had dumped the dog in a friend's backyard and could we take the dog in again. Gizmo was a wreck. He was unhappy, matted, and upset. We told the drunkard to never speak to us again and that he would never see Gizmo again. He threatened to call the police on us. We never heard from him again. Gizmo made it to 17 years of age happy in a safe, warm home.

I actually had an abandoned Harlequin Great Dane show up at my house many years ago. She was emaciated, and torn up like she had been in a serious fight. I posted some flyers, and made some posts on FB. I had several offers to take her, but none to claim her. The vet put her on puppy chow to build her weight up. She estimated her to be around 5 years old, and said she was small for a Great Dane, and that she had probably been starved her entire life. She weighed around 80 lbs when I found her, and her last weigh in at the vet, she weighed 120. I decided after the vet visit that she was mine, since she had probably not been cared for before. I was walking her down the road a few weeks later, and noticed a woman driving slowly up the road, and she appeared to be looking for something. Then she saw us. Her face lit up into a huge smile, and she suddenly stopped looking for whatever, and drove away. I suspect she was hoping to see exactly what she saw, and that she had (maybe stolen?) removed the dog from a bad situation, and dumped her in a neighborhood, in the hopes that someone would take her in. I'll never really know what happened to her in her first five years, but the last three years of her life were happy years, filled with love.

The plaintiffs perspective is wrong when she says that the Defendant cant be her mom if shes willing to take money for her. Thats not what the counterclaim was about. The counterclaim was that IF JJ sided with the plaintiff and said the dog should go back with her, that she wanted to be reimbursed for all the money she spent over the 2 years watching this GREAT DANE. Not only is that a reasonable thing to ask, it also showed JJ that the Plaintiff really had not paid any money or given any real amounts of food over the years for this dog. Its pretty easy to own a Great Dane when its not living in your house and you dont spend any of your own money feeding it!

I had a similar situation. I was asked to care for a YRK puppy just until “we get back from vacation “. But then excuse after excuse came up why they couldn’t get her. Over a year later my mom saw the original owner and he said I owed him 400.$ or bring back the dog so he could sell it and get his money. Well, that never happened and I had her for 18 years. Interesting thing happened 20 years later, I met the original owner‘s son. He had taken over his father‘s business. The original owner said that his father bought the puppy for his granddaughter. However the son said this was not an outdoor dog and he did not want a small puppy in his new house. The son gave the puppy back to his father who was going to return it to the breeder but the breeder didn’t want the puppy back. Then he gave the puppy to another breeder who promised $400 after the puppy had her own litter. Then found out that the new breeder had been arrested for cruelty to animals and the dogs had been confiscated and sent to the local Humane Society. The original owner found out about this and went and claimed the dog. The dog ended up in his shop tied to a bathroom sink when I originally saw it. That’s when he asked if I could take care of it when he went to a cruise to Alaska. After trying to retrieve money for the dog that I never agreed to purchase and being told no he gave up. After taking the dog to the vet I was told it would’ve been extremely dangerous for this dog to ever have been bred because she was so small. She only weighed 3 pounds her whole life. She was a great dog.

Some people are so entitled, it's amazing. Dogs demand a huge load of care, specially big ones. How about all the damage the dog made to the defendant's home while he was growing up? All the time she spent to take care of him and housetrain him? And indeed, the food! Those dogs eat so much it's amazing. Alarming too how so many of her dogs lived so little. Less tan half the average.

Does this woman know how expensive it is to feed a 110lb dog?? The dog doesn't survive on inhaled oxygen. And for her to sue because the real dog mom spayed the dog is just outrageous. I don't want to deal with any animal in heat, let alone a mini horse.

My neighbor got evicted and the place he was moving to didn't let him bring his cat. We barely knew each other but he knew I had cats so he asked me if I would take his cat until he could find a new place, and I agreed. While I had the cat he visited, brought supplies, and kept me apprised of his situation. Within 5 months he had a new place, and came and got his cat because he actually loved him.

I had an acquaintance who needed someone to watch her snakes for a few months well that turned into 3 years now and I've grown attached to them and built them custom enclosures and everything! I no longer speak to this person but I wondered if she would be able to just come by anytime and take them back from me but after 6 months it's abandonment and she never sent money for food or care for them so the snakes are mine now right ?!

The dog can't be part of the family if she's willing to take money for it? Um, no she wasn't willing to take money for the dog, but if you were going to take it back then she wanted to be compensated for 2 years of care for the dog.

I understand getting the dog fixed. Great Danes are notoriously oversexed. When I was a kid I had friends who had a female great Dane, and it would always walk into a room backwards. And it was definitely a thirst trap. It’s sexual appetite new no limits.

My old neighbor and I agreed to ($20mo) for taking care of her birds. She wanted to sell them to me bcz she couldn’t take them with her. She came over one time and gave me $20 a year that she never came again. Calls me over a year later and I asked for the amount we had agreed upon before she could have them back and she said “oh it’s ok then.”
