Diddy Kong Racing - Wizpig 1 (With Krunch!) - Adventure 2

Why Krunch? Because he's the worst racer in the game by a significant amount. He has top speed of any of the regular racers, but his handling is abysmal and his acceleration is complete trash. Meaning when you go up hills, you're going slow. When you start moving from a stop, you're going slow.
Anyway, this is the hardest to do thing in Adventure 2 for Krunch. Wizpig 2 is MUCH much easier for Krunch, because Krunch can manage a plane decently, but if you make a tiny mistake in Wizpig 1 race, you will probably lose. Adventure 2 mirrors all the tracks + puts silver coins in different places, so they're harder, EXCEPT the boss fights don't get harder, but I did it on Adventure 2 anyway.
General Tips
1. Green Boost! This is important no matter which character you use (except TT of course). You do a Green Boost but letting go of Acceleration right before a Zipper. The major trick to this to make you go really fast though is don't hit Acceleration again until it runs out (colorful exhaust comes out). If you press Accelerate too early, you'll cut off the boost early and go potentially slower than a regular boost!
Krunch Tips
1. Don't miss any boosts. There are only about a couple boosts of which you can miss one, but all the others will cause you to be in water, and Krunch + water = auto loss.
2. Power Slide! It's key, without it I don't think this is possible. Hard Powerslide with the R + Brake button. It takes a little practice to get used to, but chances are if you're not doing it you won't get far in a Krunch only playthrough.
3. Tap Boost for a tiny bit of help. This is when you tap A fairly fast instead of holding it. It gives you a tiny speed boost overall.
4. Be careful when you're next to Wizpig. He loves to bump into you to either: Stop you completely, bounce you off track, give you a surprise boost into probably the water.
I suspect sometimes purple boosting might be better, but not most of the time. With green boosting, sometimes it seems randomly if hills work against Krunch because of where the boost stops.

Seriously you don't have to do any fancy footwork with Krunch in order to beat Wizpig. Since he has the 3rd highest top speed in the game, it's actually easier to get in front of Wizpig unlike other characters that have a low top speed. The trickiest part about beating Wizpig with Krunch is he has the worst handling but once you get a good feel for it, it's actually pretty easy to beat Wizpig with him even without using green zipper boosts all the time. My eyes widened when I beat Wiz on the third attempt after doing a playthrough with Krunch which was the complete opposite of the many MANY attempts I did trying to beat him with Pipsy, my original go to character when I first played the game.

Lately, I've been thinking about this game: I loved it, but I could never beat it as a child, so, about 10 days ago, I challenged myself to go through the full Adventure mode 1 with Krunch. It wasn't half as bad as I'd imagined, I soon understood how he worked, and even though some coin challenges and boss battles took me a couple more attempts, I eventually managed to get it done. That was until Wizpig one Remember when I said that I started re-playing the game about 10 days ago? Well, the Adventure mode up until Wizpig 1 took me 2 days, with about 2 hours per day. Exactly 8 days, and I'm still on Wizpig 1. I've decided that I won't be playing any other Nintendo 64 game until I eventually beat him, and I'm starting to doubt that's ever going to happen. I know what I have to do, but if I don't miss the first zipper, I miss the second. If I don't miss the second, I miss the third. The jumps misdirect your steering, and if I manage to keep staying on the track, Wizpig eventually hits me and knocks me into the water. If I make no mistakes both on Lap 1 and 2, I start Lap 3 with my heart destroying my chest from the inside, the FPS killing the game, and I fail again. I've never hated a fictional character more than this before. I don't take it TOO seriously, but the fact that a kids' game boss is insulting me like this just feels sort of wrong in my brain

I replayed the N64 version a while ago and even with Drumstick it took me over an hour beating Wizpig. The FPS and input delay on the N64 are devastating especially for the jump between the 2nd and 3rd booster which if missed can throw you into the water. Played the game on an emulator afterwards with Tiptup and beat Wizpig first try, that's how much responsible controls matter. I'm probably not gonna replay the original on N64 any time soon

Fun fact: If you didn't know about the green boost mechanic or the enhanced purple boost (letting go of the acceleration before/after hitting the boost) it was almost impossible to beat him. Even in a TAS only a handful of characters could beat him with normal boosts (T.T. and Drumstick, maybe Banjo)

It becomes obvious over many attempts that normal boosts just don’t cut it.. he always pulls away even if you hit every single boost. My biggest complaint by far with DKR is that they don’t make this mechanic clear AT ALL. Two fixes to DKR would be them making this mechanic clear, and also having your start menu be more similar to Mario 64 where it shows you what you’ve done

Good point, but that pretty much goes for all characters making a mistake to automatically lose, because all characters have there good sides and bad sides, but Wiz-Pig's stats are perfect, making one mistake will easily make Wiz-Pig pass you, no matter which character you play as.

You have to let go of acceleration longer, for about one second. Don't immediately hit the accelerator after you get the green boost. I know, extremely unintuitive.
