Nick Pope is a good shot stopper but every time he's played for England he looks like he's about to have a nosebleed when the ball comes to his feet. We need a keeper comfortable playing short, and Pope would be too easy to press. He'd simply panic under the pressure and either boot it to an opposition player or out of play.

You must not have watched any major tournaments over the last few years then. His kicking has been very poor (in the final against Italy) and he shown a lack of a calm character which makes the defence nervous. He shouts and screams when he needs to assume responsibility for himself. The best keepers are the ones who are calm and controlled. Not lose their head like Pickford does

If Schmeicel was asked to kick the ball about in todays day and age he would have struggled and would have been a lot more quiet on the pitch as a consequence lol Also Schmeicel was head and shoulders above Pickford. He claimed everything in the air and was a unit in stature and in one on ones. Pickford is good, don’t get me wrong, I think he’s our best option. But it doesn’t mean I’m happy with how erratic he can be and when he gives it to others even when he is at fault.

The thing with England that we’ve never been able to capitalise on is as a National team we should be far more cohesive than the majority of international teams The reason being is the players all know each other so well, they play against each other most weeks, they live within touching distance from one another at times, they mix and socialise in the same places and quite often they play for the same clubs. Whereas you look at other international teams, their players are spread out all over the world and while they might have come across one another from time to time at some point in their career it’s not like with the English players where so many of them play in their home nation in the same league, yet they seem to do better 🤷🏻‍♂️ I do sometimes wonder whether the national team would actually benefit from more English players going overseas like Bellingham, Kane, Tomori (who for some reason doesn’t get to picked)

Also check out the James Tarkowski interview and what he says about Pickford. He says they fall out every game because the guy can’t keep his mouth shut. This ain’t Sunday football mate, like you say this is the pinnacle of international football, so there’s no need to do what he does at this level.

I remember we won the european cup and in the group stages alisson made an absolutely world class save where he got a touch on a ball in the 90th minute and if it goes in we’re out. We went on to win the tournament. Pickford doesnt do that hes just a keeper who has a go at saving stuff. He makes some good saves but you dont sit there and admire and go wow what a keeper!

I happen to agree with Hamann here about Pickford. I know Maguire isn't going, but most of his mistakes have come from Pickford and his lack of constructive or sensible communication. Pickford is a live wire and, by the way, he doesn't help his defenders at all, instead relying on shotstopping on his line (which he rarely leaves). Not a fan overall, but we're weak in goal...

In all of the Big games under Southgate, Croatia in 2018, Italy in 2021 and France in 2022, apart from the first 15 mins against Italy in that final, they never looked like scoring.
