This is a kick ass movie. Saw it in the theater opening weekend, it was loud as fuck, I loved it. Between this and the original, flip a coin on which is the better movie. Jeremy Irons was great as Simon, he was a great villain. While the ending did feel rushed, I didn't mind it either. This movie is fast paced, lots if humor and great action scenes, along with a few solid characters, this is a great movie. 10/10

Being from NYC, this movie really nails the vibe of the city at that time. It really utilizes the setting to elevate the movie. The subway sequence does a realistic job of showing the collateral damage that would take place. This wasn't long after the first attack on the WTC so it was fresh in peoples minds. Great action film. Also. You're completely right about the last 5 minutes Cody. Haha.
@BAJPGeneticGenealogist3 жыл бұрын
I also love how they paint Simon as a villain but one that claims he isn’t a monster, despite sometimes working for them. I appreciate when movies or tv shows show people as complicated and existing in a grey area. This happens with a protagonist like McClain being a good guy with demons and Simon as a villain with some humanity sprinkled in, like the bomb being fake in the school and telling the snipers to let Zeus go because he’s a Good Samaritan.
@libradawg93 жыл бұрын
The scene on the boat when McLane calls Simon's brother an asshole to his face was perfectly acted by Jeremy Irons. He was clearly so offended but couldn't hide it. Awesome. Also, McLane takes a dig at the Clintons by calling Hillary the 43rd president when they're figuring out the 21 of 42 riddle. In actuality she almost almost was 45, while the police woman who said she's married to Trump would've been the first lady. What, is Die Hard trying to be The Simpsons now?

The interesting thing is Sam Jackson's character and Bruce don't like each other and only end up liking each other because they have to spend so much time around each other lol. The way to fix the ending is to end the film on the boat have Willis and Jackson escape before the bad guys get away and have them blow them all up on the boat.

I remember when it came out in theaters and it wasn’t very well received but over the years people have come to appreciate how good it is. I really like the ending on this one, I Iike that McClane, after all the hoops and loops Simon put him through, he managed to pull the rug from under him figuring out where he was hidding, and "I had no idea Canada could be this much fun" is really cool line, and that whole thing Simon smiling at McClane intead of shooting him, that's a thing villians do, they gloat when they think they've won, and sure enough it lead to his downfall quite literaly, and the fact that the movie ends with Zeus and McClane as it started was the cherry on top.

Cody what would u think of a ending to this movie as a full circle. By that I mean McClain tracked Simon down but instead of taking him in or such Simon gets a riddle that brings him to his brother’s place of death. He then experiences through a setup exactly what his brother did. When he realizes McClain was right he then executes a Simon says order which gives the families his brother harmed the gold and he decides to go out the way his brother did. Through the same window

Idea for another alternate ending, but I think it would've worked well. Zeus and John get on the boat, complete with the line they use breaking just like it does in the film. Now the helicopter is already on the boat itself. It doesn't have to be a military grade helicopter, just something that looks commercial and not too out of place. Things play out like they do in the film, EXCEPT! When Zeus is confronted by Simon, he learns that the gold has been taken off ship and where. As John and Zeus escape being tied to the bomb, Simon's forces are leaving and he's getting ready to fly off on the helicopter. Zeus and John break free and make it to the helicopter before Simon takes off. They manage to tangle the broken line from the earlier descent onto the boat up with the runners, preventing Simon from taking off more than maybe a hundred feet. Zeus and John escape off the side of the boat before the bomb explodes, destroying the boat and the helicopter, killing Simon. At the end of the film, Zeus tells the authorities where the gold was sent, gives John the change to call Holly, and it ends with him actually talking to her on the phone. The end. It flows better, plus it removes the medicine bottle thing (which I've always thought was kind of ridiculous).

But, it was still a joy to watch this review and see you talk about this film with as much pleasure and joy as I have watching it. This is one of my favorite action films of all time as well. I can actually watch this film repeatedly more than Terminator: Judgement Day because that film starts to bother me once they show up at that guy’s house-the one that is technically responsible for causimg the rise of the machines-the black guy-I can’t remember the character’s name. Shoot. I’m actually fine with the ending. It wasn’t lack luster for me at all. I saw this in the theatre with my cousin. The crowd at the theatre was great. Man! What a rush! I always thought a good ending would have been for Simon to get away but we find out that he discovered holys address and the end shows him at holys door, then a opening to the sequel would be him breaking in to hold her hostage to get the gold back only to find maclaine and zeus on the other side of the door with guns pointed at him then the movie would be Simons people taking hostages to get Simon back

Thee shaky cam editing with shootouts without seeing the impacts shots or not seeing gunfire & no real fight scenes while the third act needed to be bigger climax but still Willis & Jackson are on great form & the film still entertaining & Jeremy Irons is the second best villain after Alan Rickman. I have an idea for a better ending: John McClane figures out their base of operations and brings in the cavalry to take them down before they escape. Simon tries to run away on foot, but John spots him and gives chase. Simon hits a dead end and John catches up to him. John delivers some emotional lines that show his disgust for Simon for putting so many lives in danger and even killing some innocent people. Simon delivers some smart ass, charming, witty but intimidating response in return. It leads to an intense, brutal, evenly matched, and emotionally charged fist fight between the two with Simon just trying to survive to get away and get revenge for his brother's death (showing that he loved and cared for his brother after all) and John trying to get revenge on Simon for the innocent people he put in danger and killed (because John genuinely cares for the lives of other people).. Of course, John wins and the whole operation is taken down.

I'd never heard of an alternate ending for this flick, and this is my favorite of all the Die Hard sequels (seriously, if you only watch one of the sequels, make it this one). So I just went and found the alternate ending and watched it. Frankly, it sucks. I love Jeremy Irons and it feels like they were trying to do a call back to John's conversations with Hans in the original film. But it honestly didn't feel like John McClain. In every film, he's just doing his best and reacting to the circumstances around him. Unless Simon gave him a reason like killing one of his kids, I don't see John chasing him down and playing a mini-Saw game with him. Plus it felt very clunky having John just explain everything in the last few minutes, whereas in the reshot ending it flows a little better. Last, one of Die Hard 3's best attributes is that it doesn't try to make itself a Christmas movie like the original, just a New York movie that emphasizes the city more than the date. The alternate ending crams in a line about John spending time with his family for Christmas after dealing with Simon, it's forced. I'm really glad they reshot the ending.
