This was the PERFECT return movie of the Die Hard franchise... His being older now just added to the thrills... He was not just fighting the bad guys, but also fighting the modern world that he doesn't belong in... He is OId School... It is a great combination of new and fresh while honoring all that the Die Hard franchise... This movie was AWESOME!!!

This is actually my favorite of the Die Hard sequels. The fastest moving, the most action packed, that combines elements of 1 and 3 into a great action movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead gets the best line in the movie. When she talks to McClane on the radio, and you're expecting her to say something like "Help me, daddy"...no..."Now there's only 5 of them." BOOM! That's exactly what John McClane's daughter would do. And the fact that she is FINE AS HELL, doesn't hurt my enjoyment of her character.

This was a solid movie, especially when you consider it’s the fourth in a franchise and the third sequel to one of the most loved Christmas movies of all time. I even enjoyed the PG13 version when I saw it a the theatre...but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I was relieved when they released an R rated version lol

I think my favourite funny line in the movie is when John is with Matt in the car and Matt hears Mai's voice over the radio and recognizes it so John gets her to slip up by using a police radio code, and she falls for it and John says "Oh really? The entire squad got called to reports of a naked guy running around?" and the look on her face was priceless, just like "Shit, I fucked up."

Glad to see you've given it the love it deserves. An awesome film. The third act action to me is incredible and I loved the part where John gets onto the wing of the F-35. John McClane always got involved 8n an over the top stunt in the final act. Die Hard - Jumps off skyscraper and smashed through window whike attached to a hose reel with exploding helicopter!! Die Hard 2 - Ejects out of a landed plane whike 30 grenades blow up! Die Hard 3 - Landa on huge ship hanging off cable wire and ship blows up.... So being chased by a bridge d3stroying F-35 is great and fits right in.

I know a lot of hardcore “Die Hard” fans hate this one, but this is my favorite after the first film, in part because I saw it on the same day I went to see Transformers, on, Labor Day I believe, and had a blast with both of them. It was especially funny because this large black lady was sitting right behind me and really getting into it, going “get ‘em John” and all that and it was almost as entertaining as the movie.

Super underrated movie. Easily my third favorite of Die Hard series. The PG-13 version is even decent enough but the unrated cut is truly the way it was intended to be seen. That was really the studios biggest mistake trying to make a PG-13 version. C’mon, it’s Die Hard! People are going to go see it and they don’t want to be edited and censored! As you say the cast was great with Long and Olyphant especially adding to the list of memorable Die Hard characters. Definitely a must watch for any fan of the first 3 films. While not quite as good as the first and third for me it was better than the second and always included it in any Die Hard marathon.

This is the movie that introduced me to the Die Hard series. Back in 2007 I checked out the (at that time) Die Hard trilogy for the first time and immediately fell in love with the series. Aside from Spider-Man 3, this was my most anticipated movie from that summer. I remember reading every article I could about it, and looking at any behind the scenes videos. Before the movie came out, they had released an extended clip from the film and that clip turned out to be the apartment shootout. At that point my hype went into overdrive because the action looked phenomenal. June 27 finally rolled around and I checked it out with my Uncle and the movie really did blow me away. The thing that I was happiest about was that John Mcclane still felt like John Mcclane. The humor, how he interacted with the villains, how he had to think on his feet in the middle of chaos, and Willis’ performance all felt like the same guy from the first three films. Also, this film has some of the best practical action sequences of the past 20 years. The standout scene for me is easily the helicopter chase. The stunt work and camera work in that sequence is amazing. They actually threw a car at a helicopter, and even that part with the car flipping in the air and landing on two cars in the tunnel was a real stunt, which is insane. I also loved that they tried to stay true to the spirit of the Die Hard series by placing John in confined areas. You have action scenes in an apartment, tunnel, elevator shaft, and cooling room. At the time it was so satisfying to see an old hero come back and have action sequences that were on par with its contemporaries. The big difference between Die Hard 4 and the piece of shit that unfortunately followed it is that 4 was clearly made by a fan of the series. I remember reading about how Len Wiseman would go through the script and pick out lines of dialogue and say “That’s not John Mcclane.” Even while filming, Willis had an idea of John flying a helicopter to the Warlock’s house. Len was very much against that because it was established in the first film that John hates flying. So the compromise was putting in the line that John took some face your fear type classes. Little things like that really do make a difference and that’s the kind of stuff that was sorely missed in the next film. I’ve heard the criticisms that the action in this film goes too over the top and it’s the film that turned John into a superhero/typical action star. While I do acknowledge that the truck chase does go over the top and is a little much, I still enjoy it. Also, the weird thing to me is that the same people with that criticism don’t criticize 2&3 for doing the same thing. I like 2 and love 3 but they both have moments that are ridiculous. In 2 John drives an exploding snowmobile over an 18 wheeler and somehow survives. He also ejects from an exploding plane and survives. In 3 he surfs on a truck, gets shot out of an aqueduct like a cartoon character, literally drives a car off of a highway, and falls however many feet onto a ship. I think each sequel is guilty of taking a step back from the realism of the first film. Also, one thing I do appreciate is that anytime John does something ridiculous in this film there usually is a physical consequence to it. For example when John jumps out the car to launch it at the helicopter his clothes are torn and he’s covered in cuts and blood. So he’s not entirely invincible.
@DominickSpano3 жыл бұрын
You really cannot compare any sequel to the original. That stands on its own. I am not a purist or extreme mega Die Hard fan, but to me this movie was rather solid. Timothy did a good job as the villian. Long was good as well. Not a bad movie at all.
@likeadollseyesstatuereview38083 жыл бұрын
You nailed the entire review right on the head Cody. This is easily my second favorite diehard movie. Bruce Willis does his best job is John McLean in this film since the original. The action is some of the series best when it comes the the sequels. The villains are all great. Timmy O is my 2nd fave after Hans. My only issue is that jet wing ride and walking away from it so easily. If he was beat to hell and looked like he was hit by a truck I would have been more forgiving. Great Die Hard movie. Great action move. John in the digital age = great idea. I am not as big of a fan of DHWAV though. It’s too much running around the city solving riddles and the action (what little there is) is not up to snuff. Other then that Elevator scene, which is fantastic, no other action scene stands out. It’s still my 3rd fav but I tend to think it fails as a great action movie.
@likeadollseyesstatuereview38083 жыл бұрын
People also complained that John became more of an action hero in this one… Going after the villain instead of trying to just survive… To that I say.. It only happens after he finds out they have his daughter… then he becomes a man on a mission who is going to kill them all… Maybe people who don’t like this turn don’t have kids. IDK.. I have kids and I freaking love it.

My favorite sequel. DH2 while fun was too rehashy, DH3 was much better but the ending fell flat for me, and of course DH5 was like a generic yet watchable action flick given a Die Hard title which made the film worse for it. Die Hard has a standard, it's supposed to be better than "watchable", better than generic. Live Free was indeed bad ass, the story is the most real world relevant and smartly told, the analog vs digital angle was brilliant for McClane, the villain was great, the problem is that fans wanted a Gruber clone. Now while yes some of the action was over the top, it not only gave us an awesome Yippie Kay Yay moment, but his moment of avoiding the explosion(another trademark) of the jet was almost as iconic as the first. It even took the time to bring in some heart "that's what makes you that guy". Fuck yes, man. Sometimes you gotta be the one to save the day no matter how unqualified or willing. Look at all the reviews sites and databases, this film is very well regarded and for good reason. Wiseman knocked it out of the park with critics and the box office. Fuck the haters.

The "ran out of bullets" line is in the pg-13 cut. It's actually probably the main thing about the unrated cut that makes me like it less. That and a line when they're leaving Kevin Smith's place, Long asks Willis what the plan is, and Willis says something like, "I'm gonna go kill those guys and get my daughter ... or get my daughter and kill those guys". Even when I saw the PG-13 cut, this is one of my favorite sequels, because it was like Bruce Willis actually cared about his role here (whereas he’s usually phoning it in so much). He captures the classic McClane attitude, but watering down the Die Hard rating was not a good move. I mean, McClane and that catchphrase go together like Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. But rating aside, it recaptures the fun buddy-cop dynamic we’ve seen in Die Hard 3. The idea of McClane as an analog cop in a digital age is genius. Not the greatest main villain in Thomas Gabriel, but Maggie Q is a fantastic henchwoman. And as an action movie, it delivers all you could want. McClane doesn’t feel quite so relatable; he feels like The Terminator, and some of the action is way too over-the-top (see: fighter jet blowing up civilian freeway). I prefer the unrated cut, but in the end I oddly prefer it to Die Hard 2 as a sequel in the franchise.

I never hated this movie. I consider myself to be a big fan of this franchise, and I remember enjoying it when I saw it in theaters back in 2007. I feel that a lot of people were too harsh with this film.

Think it's better than 2

Same. I appreciate that 3 & 4 stay true to the character but also do their own thing.

Fun movie. It could be a sequel to Unbreakable.

Where I'm from, it's called: "Die Hard 4.0" for some reason.

It's a fun film. That said, the 2000's decade created a lot of hate towards action/action sci-fi films that went with the PG-13 rating, like: 'Reign of Fire', 'Live Free or Die Hard' and 'Terminator Salvation', all of which I like.

The unrated cut of this movie is so badass I agree, I don’t understand the hate… 5 is awful in almost every way!

I need to see the unrated version, because I only have the PG-13 version on blu ray. But even though the version has terrible dialogue in some part of the movie, I still enjoy it and it is by far the last good Die hard.

I already thought "...With a Vengeance" went too far with the ridiculous super human stuff so this one never had a chance with me. I like my John McLane action relatively grounded. Leave the superman stuff to John Matrix and John Rambo. 🤙🏻

I really liked this film. Not as good as 3 and 1 (I think 3 is my favourite). But this is better than 2 and still a great film (2 is even a decent actioner). Shame they never made anymore after this one. Also as a side note. The "I was out of bullets" line was in the UK version. Never realised there was another option for one of the most iconic moments in the film 🤯
