Arianna - since you said you've seen and read all of the Harry Potter materials, may I suggest a Harry Potter book you likely haven't read? "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality". It is a so-called 'fan fic'. But don't let that fool you. It is a very professionally written novel that re-imagines the story if Harry had been raised by loving step parents, one of whom was a scientist. It is a funny and touching and imaginative story that includes many of the same beats/characters as the original stories - but, especially when one is so thoroughly immersed in the HP lore as it seems you are (what with the Deathly Hallows tattoo and all), is an enriching and amazing story (especially after you get through the first few chapters - which are still good but the author was still finding his feet as it were, since this was written the same way 'The Martian' was written: as a chapter-at-a-time internet release). It is a much loved book by many in the HP fanbase and I actually feel it is better in many respects to the original. I think you may enjoy it.

The scriptwriter's favorite character from the books was Hermione. As such, he gave her a lot of Ron's lines. In the book, Ron served as the source of lore (since unlike Harry and Hermione, he grew up in the wizarding world). Unfortunately, this made Ron look like a dumbass. For example, it was Ron who gave the others the way out of the Devil's Snare plant trap. In the books at least.
@RemHobbit2 күн бұрын
Yeah the movies did Ron dirty throughout the series, imo.
@SaiyanHeretic2 күн бұрын
It makes a certain amount of sense, from a character perspective. Hermione was always the designated smart one, the voracious reader, the know-it-all. From an authorial perspective, she's the more natural choice to be Miss Exposition. Remember that Philosopher's Stone was JKR's first published work; she was literally an amateur writer and not yet practiced at storytelling. (One could argue she still isn't, judging from her later output...) As for Ron, well, how many Americans don't know the geography or history of their own country? What 11-year-old knows anything about animal husbandry or domestic horticulture? Can you tell me off the top of your head how wi-fi works? Just because Ron was born into an old wizard family doesn't mean he would be intimately familiar with all the deep lore of the whole wizarding world. And let's be honest. He always was kind of a dumbass. Ron and Hermione are the two halves of Harry's psyche pulling him in different directions at different times. Emotion vs Intellect, Fun-Seeking vs Duty-Bound, et cetera, and they literally represent Harry's heritage as a Wizard vs his upbringing as a Muggle. Streamlining these characteristics for more economical storytelling on film is part of the adaptation process. Also, they cut the Potion Puzzle from the movie, whereas Wizard Chess was going to be Ron's big moment no matter what, so giving the Devil's Snare solution to Hermione served to balance out their contributions.
@danielgardecki1046Күн бұрын
@@SaiyanHeretic Not sure what Americans have to do with Harry Potter, however... 99.99% of Brits don't know British geography. If you asked 1000 Brits to list the 10 biggest cities in the UK by area or population, I bet at least 995 of them would get them wrong. A few times a year UK city videos will pop up in reactions, and I'll post the real Top 10s, and 99.99% of people in the comments will argue, because they have no idea what they're talking about. The same goes for politicians and journalists. We've got a former Prime Minister who thought he was in Burnley when he was in Bury, and we've got journalists from as recently as 2 days ago who think St Helens is in Liverpool.

The train station scene was filmed at King's Cross station in London. The film gained so much popularity that they kept the sign for 9¾ between platform 9 and 10. The station later had a reconstruction so unfortunately the original platform is no longer there but they did add a photo wall and a shop to replace it's honour.

In hindsight it´s honestly amazing that all three in the main trio grew up in a massive production like Harry Potter and all three came out of it as well adjusted people and 2/3 with a good career post HP (though Grint seems to have a bit of a tax dodging thing going on) Oh and RIP Dame Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman, you absolute legends

Yeah I'm shocked too, not just the main trio but managing to keep all the kids (Malfoy, Neville, Dean, Seamus, the twins, Ginny) on track to do 10 years worth of movies (no recasting), it's pretty freaking amazing. I remember in the anniversary movie Emma confessed how at one point she didn't want to return as Hermione because of just how big it got and how famous she became at such a young age.

Practically all of the older adult cast have filmed stuff here too, with some of them filming this year. They include: Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) with his 2nd (The Choral), and possibly his 3rd Bradford filmed productions (28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple). Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) possibly back here again in The Choral too, although he's been removed from the cast listing twice for some reason. Also, Fun Fact Maple: Hogwarts actually has TWO different cups to be awarded. First, as Arianna said, there's the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup; which goes into the common room of whichever House wins that year. And then there's The House Cup. Which iscaearded to the House that has the most points at the end of the school Year. So essentially, Griffindor won the House Cup at the end, but Slytherin still had the Quidditch Cup.

Now it makes sense why so many people think catching the snitch means your team wins. It was the way the announcer announced Gryffindor won. When in reality, the Golden snitch just ends the game and awards that team 150 points. If the team that catches the snitch is more than 150 points behind, they still lose. **I don’t know for sure but I would guess if your team is 150 points or more behind, then another job for the seeker would be to stop the other seeker from catching the snitch, unless they’re just trying to end the game.

Downton Abbey (2019) also filmed in Bradford, however she wasn't in any of the Bradford scenes. Richard Harris - Filmed This Sporting Life (1963) in Leeds... In a neighbourhood at the border which has a Bradford post town, along with some other locations in the film no doubt. However I haven't seen the film yet, so I might be able to spot some actual Bradford locations when I do. Michael Gambon - Filmed Mary Reilly (1996) in Bradford, apparently. The City of Film team claim it was partly filmed in Bradford, however I've seen it, and I'm pretty certain they're wrong, just like I am with around 5 other productions which they also claim were partly filmed in Bradford, even though nothing is recognisable at all. However Brideshead Revisited (2008) and The King's Speech (2010) were definitely filmed in Bradford.

Something fun about Harry Potter that people might not know is how terrible an idea the house system is. Putting all the ambitious, cunning leader types in one house. Putting all the gung-ho justice and adventure thrill-seekers who won't think before they act in another is also a bad idea. Similarly walling off the potentially-reclusive bookworms together and keeping the loyal/supportive/hardworking types with a well-developed sense of fairness away from interacting with the other more dominant personality types are also bad choices. The houses are a way of taking your most dominant traits and putting you in an echo chamber where they will become more dominant. And I'm sure JK knew that and found it interesting. But then there's something about our main trio of Harry, Hermoine and Ron. Despite all being in the justice-seeker category, and at least partly belonging in Gryffindor as a result, they each exhibit some of the better traits of the other houses, which balances them and makes them effective. Of course, none of them fit entirely into any one additional house, especially Ron, who might have some Slytherin in him as well. I mean, he's got dreams of being head boy and holding the house cup and what have you when he looks in the mirror after all. Harry - Natural leader, competitive, definitely cunning, will to succeed. - Slytherin traits. The sorting hat even remarks on it. Hermoine - Highly intelligent, pursues knowledge. - She's clearly at least part Ravenclaw. Ron - Loyal, in backing the plans that are normally instigated by his friends, and will normally only go against the consensus if something seems unfair. - Hufflepuff. Hopefully none of that is really a spoiler at this point, you've seen enough about their characters after just the first story in the series for these traits to have been revealed about them I think.

Well it's like this: Flint didn't get a foul or penalty forbtaking out Oluver, BECAUSE he did so within the rules of the game. There's no rule against Flint grabbing the Beater's bat to hit the Bludger. Hitting a Bludger at the enemy is exactly the point OF the Beaters. Also the thing about the Holden Snitch is that catching it only ENDS the game. It does not automatically mean the team who cathes it wins. I know that's what Oliver TOLD Harry, BUT Oliver was saying it way because he was confident that Griffindor would never fall behind by MORE than 150 points. So therefore, a Seeker can catch the Snitch, give their team 150 points and STILL lose the game, due to overwhelming point difference.

Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter. The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione. The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells. (Even though she froze up out of fear in the book and had to be reminded that she was a witch by Ron) The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch. And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess. Side notes: The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits: Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry. Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit. Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness. Erised (The Mirror of Erised) is the word desire spelled backward. Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have ruffled wing feathers to silence their flight so prey animals don't hear them coming. They also have natural camouflage due to their coloration, and they're the only birds of prey who don't have bare feet due to their habitats, like the Arctic Tundra. At the time of the deaths of Lily and James Potter at the hands of Voldemort, Harry was only 15 months old.

the rules for quidditch are so stupid. you can tell jk rowling knew nothing about sports. like 150 points and end the game when catching the snitch? makes only the seeker matter tbh lol

How far in did you get before having to explain why the movie has 2 titles? lol, they changed the title because apparently test US audiences didn't understand what a "Philosopher" is ?!
@Athasin2 күн бұрын
Correction: They changed the titled because US children didn't associate the word "philosopher" with "magic user" since a philosopher in America is someone who studies philosophy (e.g. Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Kant). Meanwhile sorcerer in America means powerful magic user/wizard.
@lauz-im3ov2 күн бұрын
Philosopher carries exactly the same connotations in the UK.
@AdrianFlipflop2 күн бұрын
It wasn't the term "philosopher" on it's own, US trade audiences didn't know what the philosophers stone was

Seeing the Snape scene when he's humbling Harry in class regarding his new found celebrity status was actually quite emotional to watch when you're in the know of the whole story. I haven't seen the first film in so long.

The 'sorcerer's stone' is such a horrible movie title, the English/European 'Philosopher's Stone' is so much better.
