I think Mason Dye often gets overlooked, but he was a fantastic antagonist in this season. Working with the information (and propaganda) Jason had at the time, everything he does feels believable. And he plays the role of the "all American" teenager who has fully bought into this idea perfectly. He kills it as an antagonist this season.

I'm actually a little thrown off by how perturbed A&M are about these effects, because IMO last season's monsters were WAY grosser. There are two types of 80's Bullies. The humiliation type ,(seen here), and the straight up psychopath who is trying to kill someone. This show got another thing right for the 80's motif. You say Mike's brother looks tired... That's 'cause he IS tired. He had to be thirty years old when filmed this. Which is apropos of the standard teenage actor of the time: mid to late twenties and up into the mid thirties (specially if it was a franchise).

Yeah, Mazes And Monsters was Horrible... I remember picking it up at the vcr tape rental place, and being horribly disappointed.... And years later, my girlfriend at the time walked up to me and had the tape... I told her, you wont like it... But, she was a fan of the author (or screenwriter), and Hanks as well... And I was like... "man, if you rent it, I wont watch it." She was also disappointed.... People forget that Hanks early career wasn't stellar.... He was in movies like Bachelor Party.... I think Splash helped him, but what really got him on the map was Philadelphia. I used to watch a sitcom he was in called Bosom Buddies.... And for a while it looked like Peter Scolari was getting more success, 'cause of all the tv work he was getting... But Hanks eventually prevailed... On a side note, I THINK Chris Makepeace was also in Mazes And Monsters. He was in very typical 80's comedies like Meatballs and My Bodyguard.... meh

Let's face it Joyce doesn't have a great track record for helping her kids through the minefield of high school popularity, starting with basic fashion. It's laudable to always give positive reinforcement about how special your kids are and how superficial crap isn't important, but...sometimes a little attention to the superficial can reduce some misery. It is interesting Will still got a little foot flirting in class, so apparently El's midwestern outfit from the 50s is a worse sin than the bowl cut.
