I don't know why but it's incredibly satisfying stacking firewood and now I find it's also good watching someone else do it! Maybe it's a survival thing? May I suggest keeping a stiff broom in your truck for clearing the debris off the road?

Another great video Diego you are such a hard working man. The water is amazing. I just have to say 1 thing. I know you were getting firewood for yourself but I was really surprised that not 1 person that passed you stopped and offered to at least help you with the road clean up. Because it benefited them that you cleared the road. God Bless

Diego, for the future, you find three branches that are about 8 feet long, you tie them together top and bottom, and use it as a makeshift ramp to roll the round into your truck bed. It's not worth blowing your back out.

Youve inspired me man. It’s amazing what people will watch. I’ll be starting my own channel soon. I think it’s a matter of leverage really for the long logs. You can fit a cable wind on the back of the truck and you can hall the logs in longer sections. 🙏🏽

Having the electric chainsaw is definitely nice in certain situations. Like where he cut an awkward piece off a log when he was splitting. But, I can't imagine this wouldn't have been a million times easier with a 20"-24" bar on a gas chainsaw.
@inceneration6 ай бұрын
i agree. Gaspowered Chainsaws tends to have higher cutting power and more horsepowers to get through bigger pieces. I would also agree with the people saying that long logs of 10 foot or so would be better seeing that the bending and walking constantly back and forth is more exhausting than picking up 3 smaller logs than picking up one long log. Its the same amount of weight in the end. The question is just how fast you can do it without breaking your back xD

I doubt it’s the case with him, but some of us can’t use the gas powered ones (and yes, I’m disappointed that I can’t) due to medical reasons. I’ve got a pacemaker and that was the FIRST tool they mentioned by name! 😂 Told them they were breaking my heart with all that talk! What no power tools!? Nah, just no gas powered ones. I’ve got a leaky black and decker battery powered one at home now.

I enjoy watching you be excited to live off grid and learning to do things you've never tried before! I think your relationship with your 83 year old neighbor is wonderful and I can tell he relishes it too! I have a suggestion about your wood gathering. I've have gathered my own firewood for about 45 years. one trick I learned was to not block all my wood in the field. It uses a lot of energy and time. Cut your logs about 6" long and stack those in your truck. Especially the 12" and under diameter logs. Since you use battery powered chainsaw you would make fewer cuts in the field and make your batteries last longer. Then cut the logs to length at home where you have more time and a generator to charge batteries. Just a thought! Good Luck!

One of the biggest things I learned when hand splitting is to get an old tire that fit a 20" rim, put the piece or pieces in the tire, keeps them from going everywhere and saves yourself from bending down and re-adjusting them again to re-split. Got my tire for free at the local gas station.

You just cant beat plenty of logs for the winter. It’s like hay in the barn. All the best for finding logs from England. PS, just want add that the exercise is much better than spending an hour in the gym.
@Unknown-pc9yq2 ай бұрын
Diego, I admire your hard work & love your channel. You are going to be at 100k followers soon. One tip I've seen for cutting firewood to the correct size fast is attach a bar either 16" or whatever measurement you want to the saw. Then make all your "measurement" cuts, remove the size guide and get to work. I've seen magnetic ones that pop on and off and then seen guys drill a hole in the bar, run a rod and nut through it. One of the things I learned the hard way was how many times you touch the wood. It all comes back to time and energy. Do whatever you can to limit the times you limit the amount of times you touch the wood. The guy with the trailer in the start of the video could possibly have a cheap harbor freight winch, pull up large logs onto the trailer then cut them up when home next to the wood pile. It's an investment for sure but with the time savings you might think about it. Especially if you find a beat up trailer you can DIY fix. Good luck bother.

New subscriber here. When you split (fire)wood use a technique call 'boxing'. This is when at the EXACT MOMENT your bit's edge of your splitting maul/axe strikes the block of wood you 'flick' (lean the top part of your axe/maul rapidly to the left or right, your choice) causing the block to split rapidly, ("fly apart") while using less body energy to swing the maul/axe. My dad showed me this method at my 11 year age. "Boxing blows" are very easy to learn. Try it in some good splitting wood. I split red oak (usually one blow per split) firewood here in my area with a double bit 3.5lb axe, lighter to swing, yet very efficent.

Hey man, this is one of my first time watching your videos and funny enough, it was the episode where you talk about electric motors and batteries. I am a electrican, electrical tech and ElectroMotor mechanic. Electric run motors in power tool equipment run more efficiently at running rpm that is with no resistance Aka when your not cutting. So the higher the RPM the less battery you use. Also keeping the motor cool, cool is good same as the batteries but not freezing or cold. Also if you are constantly discharging batteries that can cause heat and over time damage. So don't charge them right after they die giving them a chance to cool down it will charge faster and use less energy to charge, because heat = resistance. Enjoyable content man keep it up.
