Diesel rules... This was awesome. It's funny too though cause my Dad always wanted to swap his 4.0L for a Diesel of some sort but there was never an option to do it let alone a CUmmins option... Sadly he passed away due to Brain Cancer here in April but he would have LOVED this episode and the engine swap alone would have been too cool for him.

Fred and his show is one of the best. He's a great presenter. he lives and works like a big kid. Something we all wish we could do.The thing I don't like about a lot of these shows is that when they need something, they reach into their deep pockets or they have parts given to them. Taking an IDEA and getting it done with an unlimited budget isn't much of a challenge. Do it with used or OEM parts. Mix and match. Stir it up and out comes something really cool.

Except for the brand new industrial engine, gearbox, atlas transfer box, 4 massive trepadors, custom adaptors and the labour of several different people. Yeah. Totally budget.
@Feintgames8 жыл бұрын
This show doesn't have an "unlimited" budget. No show does. This show gets a piece of the financial pie that's allocated to all of the MT shows. Fred spends the money wisely and uses sponsors to pay for the rest. It's smart. You could get sponsors too if you were doing great things with your vehicle that would garner lots of online interest. And honestly, if you want to see old broken down parts being used, he has a whole series based on what you can do for almost no money. In fact, most of this entire show is about doing things on a very small budget and Fred always gives tips and tricks on how to save money. I think it's top of mind for him.
@phatvortex8 жыл бұрын
+Feint I never said that what Fred does isn't great, it is. However, the idea that it is somehow a show about doing things on a budget is total bs, considering on this episode he spends probably what most people earn in a year on brand new parts.

Trench Gunnah' I love the Roadkill and Dirt Every Day people. I love the "Original", "Premise" of Roadkill, the Buick Special!, but here's the problem I have with that show. I have always been "The Planning Kind Of Guy". I am not a spontaneous person. I build things in my mind first and troubleshoot every step. Then, after I have a well thought out plan, all the parts and tools, I proceed with the build and hope that it is as trouble free as possible. Those guys seem to just walk up to the car and start working with no plan and hope for the best. It seems to be a show of mistakes and how not to do things. Running out of gas all the time? Cars building is hard enough if you Do have a plan.

No worries of overheating! But I’ve done that before! In The Army! The Motorpool I was assigned to had found some deep water forging kits, one for a Duece Ana Half, the other for a M151A2 “Jeep” , the weird little one built by AM a General with four wheel independent suspension and 4 cyl gas engine that all were equipped with waterproof ignition and charging systems. The Jeep was able to forge through just over 5’ of standing water. The Duece Ana Half, over 10’!! In the Jeep the bell housing was actually sealed, to a point. The Duece Ana Half also had the bell housing sealed, but also had an air line to pressurize it to help keep water out, same with the trans/transfer cases.

Most ponds are lined with about a foot of bentonite (clay) so they will not loose water out the bottom through the porous dirt. Clay gets really slippery when it is water soaked. Question. Would it be possible to add a compressed air tank with a demand regulator to feed the engine, so that you don't need a snorkel? A fully water-proof jeep? Maybe run the exhaust on a flex hose with a weight so that the end always sticks down and water won't go up into it? Not sure if that'd be possible but it would be awesome.
@singhson10618 жыл бұрын
SuperKONR theoretically, it is possible. the only problem is that you would need a really big tank cuz the engine is gonna use the air pretty quickly. so, you would be left with a specific time for which you could stay underwater. you could however put an air compressor to fill the tank on the go but the compressor would have to have deliver compressed air to the tank at a rate which is more than the air being consumed by the engine.
@nerd1000ify7 жыл бұрын
Some submarines do that, look up 'Air independent propulsion'. In their case they bring a tank of pure compressed oxygen or liquid oxygen instead of air and dilute the oxygen with recycled exhaust gas before sending it into the engine.
@1knightmar37 жыл бұрын
SuperKONR .0mp9 ?

Engine displacement x 1/2 rpm = the volume of air at atmospheric pressure you would need in the tank. For a four stroke engine. If you don’t have a turbo. If you do you also need to factor in boost. So 2.8 liters at 1000 rpm you would need a tank with a volume of 1400 liters per minute, as long as you take the turbo off. So yes in theory you could run it off a scuba tank. But that Jeep would need a regular size scuba tank about every 6 seconds

This reminds me of a video of a jeep similar to this one in a swamp buggy race on a water-filled oval track. The swamp buggy drivers were all high and dry, elevated on tall farm tractor wheels while the jeep driver and his girlfriend were in a standard jeep and at times only shoulders above the water with the jeep completely submerged other than the air intake and exhaust. The swamp buggies were much, much faster, but broke down one at a time until eventually only the old jeep was left chugging along to finish the race.

Whether underwater or on top of 12,000 ft mountains where the air starts becoming too thin to breathe. The diesal engine is a powerhorse marvel!

Fun Stunt but anyone trying this themselves should know this thing is is going to die an ugly death of electrical gremlins once the corrosion creep starts into the stranded wiring and electrical bits. Greasing connectors won't protect behind the plugs. It might be days, weeks or months but CORROSION WILL HAPPEN. This is the same thing that happens when a boat sinks and someone attempts to bring it back to life. Also, all those grease and oil seals on mechanical bits are meant to keep fluids in, not water with pressure of 12' out. Good luck to anyone who doesn't get parts for free from sponsors.

I love mudders lol! I made a small fortune off of them back in the day overhauling ruined transmissions, transfer cases and diffs full of water, and the electrical problems, OMG!

Way to take a nice Jeep and turn it into a hazard to navigation.
@johnbecay36868 жыл бұрын
good one
@Jack_Torrance.8 жыл бұрын
Just tie a buoy to it with a bell. Then the passing vessels will hear the bell and see the buoy. No problem. The buoy will also double as sort of a indicator to protect the Jeep. It is sort of like the red flag on the end of the CB antenna while dune running or just a red flag.

How is it a hazard to navigation when it's in a reservoir. There's no passing boats.
@Jack_Torrance.8 жыл бұрын
There were no navigation lights there should be a red light on the port side and a green light on the starboard side. You never know when another Jeep is going to go scuba driving.

I think its because of the spark plugs. Diesel engines only uses compression to initiate the stroke,
@itsyaboia-dub11208 жыл бұрын
Only due to the need of spark plugs.
@_droid8 жыл бұрын
Advertisement for Cummins, that is all. Spark plugs work fine under water. Obviously there is no water in the cylinders and all the wiring is sealed. You might have to seal the ignition computer but some are potted/sealed from the factory.
