Just ordered the bearing kit and two used engine bay side cable ends, looking forward to being able to get into first gear a little more consistently! One of my cable ends was held in with zip ties on top of the transmission so I'm going to do those first and see if I can get the adjustment closer, then I will do all the busings in the cabin for a fun "before and after" comparison. I'm sure every busing is either worn out or missing. I've put 648,000 km on it since I bought it new in 2001. Thanks for your support Jim.

Thanks for the informative video's. I've just replaced the following on my VW Bora (Jetta) using Dieselgeek parts - Superslider, 1st-Gear getter, side-to-side cable bushing. I bought the front-to-back bushing too, but have deferred this as there is negligible play in the existing bushing, and it's the trickiest one to do! Overall this work has greatly improved the gearchange. Recommended.

I just did your deluxe bushing set on my "new to me" Mk4 R32 last night, the difference in shifter feel is shocking to say the least! I have a lower mile car, 68K on it now, but the shifter was pretty sloppy. When I took it apart I was disappointed to see all of my bushings were actually intact. I debated not even doing the bushings and looking elsewhere for why it still felt sloppy even though they LOOKED ok. But, I went forward and replaced all the bushings anyway since I already pulled in the consoles out and had everything apart. Im glad I did in the end! Its amazing how much more "solid" the shifter feels with your bushings in there. Ill be installing the Sigma 6 tonight. I had watched all of the videos you offer for the Mk4 first and saw the common consensus was to make sure the shifter box bushings were all solid before doing the short shifter. So tonight Ill bang out the last part and install the Sigma 6!

I think I watched every MK4 video he made. Absolutely great stuff. Ordered the deluxe kit + the super slider and then the performance bushings (which would have fixed the original issue of not returning to center). Really just an unbelievable difference from what it was to now. Polished the channel area for the super slider and the shaft the high performance bushings slide on with some 600, 1500, 2000 grit sandpaper because it was so bad from the car sitting. Delivery and notification of shipment status was rapid. If you have a O2J do this!

@4:35 All I can add is that there is a cable bushing that goes on the bottom of the first gear getter L bracket. Installing the busing is easy enough but reinstalling the retainer clip is hard. I placed the retainer clip into a open ended 13mm wrench which held it snugly, then I was able to press it onto the end very easily. Also, drill the hole on the passenger side, it makes like so much easier.

Wear in that interface is usually resultant from a clutch installer failing to use the correct nut to secure the front to back to the shaft. Usually the wear is isolated to the much softer front to back rather than the shaft. Replace worn parts.

We offer perfect pivot to remove a bunch of slop from 2002-2007 side to side cable ends. The front to back cable needs to cant as it swings through its range of motion so only a rubber bushing or a spherical bearing will allow articulation without binding. We use a spherical bearing with all of our Sigma shifters.

Car: Skoda Octavia 1, 1.8T 180HP, same shift/selector mechanism as VW mk5, Seat leon mk2 as I observed. I am having some issue engaging R when engine running idle, vehicle stand still. When I try several times, it will work (and usually I release and push again the clutch pedal). I would say it is a matter of bushes. The other problem may be a little tricky. The issue is with 3rd gear when trying to engage, vehicle running, speed > 40km/h. Shifting to 3rd cannot be performed. The lever won't move to 3rd sometimes. Another try will work. P.S. There are some moments when I'm trying to perform a fast change from 2nd to 3rd, releasing the clutch pedal fast, gear 3 not engaged completely, result in grinding sounds from gearbox. I know that is a driver mistake, but why the 3rd cannot be smoothly engaged? Could be a bush problem from shifter/shift rod/selector rod/cables not adjusted, or it is way uglier (like synchronizer or gear itself) ? Thank you,

I tried to adjust the cables that's when it started acting up. I was trying to get 5th gear back..I just bought the slider from the dealer is really loose and wabbles. That shift tower with the lock key must have broken because when I pushed it in the tower stayed down for a second then came up. When I pushed it down it never pops all the way up like it used to. I think the lock broke off and it's making it stick. Anyway I'm going to check what's lose and I'll put order in within an hour. The slider will be here tomorrow. Thank you and I love the videos

You can remove the shifter box to access the bushings however all of the bushings can be replaced with the box in situ. Accessing the front to back bushing at the bottom of the stick requires drilling the 1 and 1/4 in Access hole. This is easier for most folks than dropping the box and most certainly easier for all-wheel drive versions
