In Spain, the pretérito perfecto compuesto is the most common verb tense for the past whereas the pretérito perfecto simple is the most common in Latin America. For example, "he desayunado" v. "desayuné".

Oo, good one! A bit confusing for someone who speaks English as a first language when you first start hearing he/has/ha ____do all the time in Spain.

✌🏼😅🇵🇭 An Idea and Challenge for Your Next or Future Video: *Differences between Filipino and Tagalog* (Please reach, contact, work with and/or coordinate with the "Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino" [Commission on the Filipino Language] and their people from the national government of the Philippines for this. Also, please kindly and patiently, at least, ask them or, even better, finally challenge them to finally, linguistically and even officially define, compare, contrast, differentiate and distinguish between the two, once and for all or at last, and/or even release official documents or papers of or about these and that includes these. The comparisons, contrasts, differences and/or distinctions between Tagalog and Filipino are still confusing me a lot as a Filipino myself and even if I am a Filipino myself, for almost a decade in my only more than two and approaching to three decades of life.) By the way, I am a native and ethnic or ethnolinguistic Zamboangueño and a native, ethnic or ethnolinguistic and first-language Chavacano/Chabacano speaker, specifically the Chavacano Zamboangueño, Chavacano de Zamboanga or Zamboangueño Chavacano variety or dialect of, in and from Zamboanga City, Philippines, which is my home city. Chavacano/Chabacano is a group, grouping, collection or umbrella term for the formerly 5 to 6 and currently 2 or 3 to 4 or 5 and spread-out but closely-related and linguistically-related varieties or dialects of Spanish or Spanish-based creoles in the Philippines. Because there's some level of mutual intelligibility among the Spanish or Spanish-based creoles or creole varieties or dialects among all of the languages of, in and from the Philippines, they're treated and considered as a single language. It is the only Spanish or Spanish-based creole language in Asia. 👋🏼😄🇵🇭 Buenas o hola, saludos y buenos dias desde aqui na un barrio o barangay na Distrito Dos, Segundo Distrito o Costa Este, na Ciudad de Zamboanga, Filipinas! (The greeting above is written and spelled in a more standard or standardized, codified, official, academic or educational, literary, journalistic and/or formal writing and spelling variety or variant of the Chavacano Zamboangueño, Chavacano de Zamboanga or Zamboangueño Chavacano variety or dialect of the Chavacano/Chabacano language.)

Another thing, I don't know what region of EC he's from, but here in Quito, I've only ever heard pens referred to as 'esferos', not 'plumas' (the latter of which would be a fountain pen instead of a ballpoint).

I agree. It always bugs me when people don't know the difference because they are NOT the same language... Related, maybe, yes, but not the same.

It should be called Castillan or Standard Spanish. Calling Spanish European makes it seem as if it had sth do with Europe, which it doesn't. It has to do with Spain, not Europe.

I'd guess it is called European Spanish because it is the only country from Europe that speaks Spanish so there's no need to specify. Besides, Castillian Spanish is a dialect so it wouldn't work to refer Spanish as a whole.

@@cchiriCastilian Spanish is a dialect? Isn't Castilian just another name for the Spanish language? Several countries refer to the language as castellano, I wouldn't say it refers to one specific dialect.

There's no such thing as standard Spanish. Standard is relative.

I’m working through the Babbel app and have selected Latin American Spanish. It’s confusing because at times the pronunciation given, especially by the woman, seems to use the “th” sound for ‘c’ and the ‘j’ sound for ‘ll’. For example her name is ‘Marthia’, and she says ‘eja’ for ella, etc. Or am I mis-hearing her?
