Thanks for posting, Tara. Hope you and your family are well and have settled back into life in the USA. Very interesting and insightful video with Kiki. I have to say it is a breath of fresh air for me to watch interviews like this. Nice to see two open-minded people just having a general discussion and not get offended when one makes remarks about their personal experience in another country, about the culture and differences they have experienced. Please keep posting.

Thank you for having me on to chat! It was so lovely to talk about my experiences. It’s funny to hear what my thoughts were when we spoke because it has definitely changed on a few things since!

Hi Kiki, I’ve just watched and just wanted to pass this on, my husband and I have always tried to take in a sporting event wherever we’ve traveled and I must say one of our favourites was going to watch the NY Rangers at Maddison Square Garden, we just loved it. It was fantastic as a sport, but also the venue in general is something to behold, we would love to catch a concert there one day. Look forward to hearing how you’re getting on in the future. Good luck, I hope all is going well.

I found that being a Kiwi living in America was like being in a dream, where everything is familiar, but is just not quite right. The food looks the same, but it tastes different. I remember getting very stressed out at an ATM machine. Getting a cellphone and plan was overwhelming. We speak the same language, but constantly misunderstand each other. Society is pretty much the same, but the differences are subtle and combined caused a really big culture shock for me.

As a New Zealander and one that has a side hustle as a street photographer, l always felt that fellow New Zealanders were very approachable outgoing and mostly accomodating when meeting visitors from abroad. I mention this simply because l've noticed that there are some 'distinct' culturally nuanced social differences regarding etiquette involved depending on what part of the planet you grew up in. Europeans strangers l've engaged on the street all agree and laugh when l say to them " You will no doubt have noticed that here in New... total strangers will start a conversation with you once they realise that you have a foreign accent"? Europeans in particular, initially find it a little strange but the majority of them find this rather refreshing and endearing because in some places in Europe people walk around with blinkers on intentionally avoiding eye contact or social engagement of any kind because everything moves at a quicker.pace in a world obsessed with 'human doings' and less interest in 'human beings'. Americans l've encountereded here in New Zealand are pleasantly accommodating and friendly however given the rpast decade of political divisivenes that's enveloped the US, most Americans lve met totally want to avoid any conversation relating to politics which l find rather humorous... given the many l've engaged with are usually outspoken about most things Tara... come home 🤣

I don't believe Kiwis pull down tall poppies, it's just NZers are more reserved like the Brits and don't like to 'skite' about themselves.

depending on the industry you are wanting to approach. Some trades do the old school walk ins, some companies do this also. Mainly corporations, specialised and large companies use HR agencies to vet potential employees.

A great interview. I've heard a few times how US voters are so, so staunch about political parties and disown someone who votes for another party.

@@Kiwiamericansas a Kiwi who has been in the USA for 9 years, I definitely see some of these differences. But, I think it takes more time to understand the nuances and what drives them.

She has not seen the area long enough . As an American I have refused to even visit NYC . Aside from the criminal environment there is the LAWS and Police that are also different . The politics in NYC are well know for their level of corruption .

@@marygallagher3445 I don't have to be afraid of anything all I have to do is look at the criminal statistics of NYC . You can wear blinders all you want but the majority of crimes are in the large cities and those that have liberal city leaderships aka Democrat party . I rarely believe self generated crime numbers as those compiling the numbers want to make themselves look better then they are , www.nyc.gov/site/nypd/news/p0527/nypd-citywide-crime-statistics-august-2024

NYC is America’s premier city and it’s considered the center of the world for many reasons including the UN Headquarters are located there. What kind of a hicktown are you from to have such ignorance?… Get to know your own country first before you travel abroad!

If you want to highlight the differences between Americans and New Zealanders imagine both being dropped into an unfamiliar desert..how would each react..the American would say "there's nothing here, lets get the hell outa this place" whereas the Kiwi wouldn't react and just go and look for water,,

The building of your “sentence”, and complete lack of punctuation, has left me completely bewildered and totally in the dark, as to what on earth you are trying to say.

#dontoverpopulateNZ - I've seen videos here on YT that a record number of NZers are leaving their country for work abroad, primarily Australia. So not sure what the "vibe" is, but it's not all that good.
