The hardest part for me trying to understand this industry is every videos I’ve found uses a ton of acronyms and terminology that I’ve never heard before. I’d love to hear this broken down for people with no experience in the maritime world.

Question: How do clocking in and clocking out works? You punch in like a normal job? Also, can you switch jobs with other companies? Or you're stuck doing what you're doing?
@MikeMills12 ай бұрын
There isn't any official clocking in and out. You have a set time to be working and when that time hits you start getting paid.

Great video! Thanks for your break down! I have a couple of questions! I want to do O.S. deckhand at entry level, can i get all my documentation like twic, passport, etc., and skip the union program for the 3-6 months training? I want to join asap. Once I have joined can i climb and rank up? Or is that only with the 4 year academy program? Will i be able to attend the academy program after i join as a merchant mariner, like attend between contracts? Or is there another viable way? When you port and dock at foreign countries do you get time to travel and explore for a few days? If so how much time do you get? Thank you and sorry for asking so many questions haha EDIT: you said as an O.S. after 6 months of seatime you can go to school to get your A.B. to become an A.B. how long is that process?
@MikeMills110 ай бұрын
Hmmm....couple things. You can't even join anything until you have obtained all those things. Passport, twic, med cert, mmc. After obtaining those if you want to go union you can go siu. If you want to start working faster join msc. Both still require training but mac's training is only a few weeks compared to siu which is a few months. If you want to become an officer I recommend joining an academy now but since you want to work first just come in as an entry level and work your way up. Port time depends on how long the ship is pulled into port. Everyone is allowed off the ship after there working hrs are done which varies position to position. If you come in as an os yes you need 6 months of sea time go to ab school which is only a few weeks or so then you can sail as an AB

@@MikeMills1 Thanks i appreciated your in depth response. Much obliged. Hope you got the promotion for the wiper too bruh! I dont have the luxury to go to school right now for 4 years. but i hope to enter as a o.s. and climb rung by rung

@MikeMills1 Жыл бұрын
Definitely pushing it. As I said before some ships are different then others if the captain doesn't care then you good. But if you have a anal captain, then you prolly clean shaven

First off thank you for the videos. They have been inspiring and very informative! Quick question. What is the difference between medical form CG 719k and CG 719k entry level? Would I be able to obtain my Mmc with either one?

Get the one with entry level on it for you then when you renew you'll just get the regular one
