A few clarifications. LoE³-366 has a glass-only visible transmittance of 66% of visible light will pass through the glass in a dual pane configuration. For comparison, two lites of clear glass in a dual pane configuration have a VT of 82%. So why does the window that you demonstrate have a VT of 51% and not 66%? Visible transmittance and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient are based on the whole window and not just the glass. Two windows that are exactly the same size with identical glass package will have different VT and SHGC if the sash/frames are different widths or if one window has muntin bars and the other one doesn't since the window materials have a VT and SHGC of zero. The difference between 66% glass VT and 51% window VT is based on the percentage of glass versus percentage of frame in the entire window unit. You state that the thermal weak-point of a window is the glass while the vinyl frame improves thermal performance, that's not correct. Actually the warmest part of any window is the center-of-glass (CoG). All glass not within 2.5" of the edge of glass or from the frame is considered to be CoG.. In your examples you state that the overall window U-factor of the windows you are demonstrating is .27, but the CoG of a dual pane with LoE³-366 is .24, so glass-only is.03 better than overall window performance. The difference is because the frame is not more efficient than the glass.

@@liketheduck Thank you, I really enjoy and appreciate Sean's videos, and look forward to finding new ones. He has a wealth of all around knowledge about windows, install, and all the associated bells and whistles that ultimately benefit his customers. But like in all things, sometimes a minor detail or two might need a tweak, particularly if it falls into the "common knowledge" category. Sometimes common knowledge might become outdated or superseded and requires a minor upgrade, Nothing to affect the message, just a detail or two. I truly mean my comments to be educational and are in no way intended to affect the overall message that Sean is presenting which is spot on and valuable to anyone who is open to learning what he is delivering. And trust me, I have had my share of "DOH!!" moments in the past, and without doubt will in the future as well. However unlike Sean and a few other window commentators who present clear, factual, and useful information, and whose videos I enjoy watching, there are also a greater number of window commentators hanging out on youtube who call themselves "experts" but who present misleading or questionable information about all this stuff, sometimes they throw out mind-numbingly wrong information. I tend to comment on those as well.....

My company here in the DFW area installs Anlin windows almost exclusively. Surprisingly, our customers almost never choose the SunShield coating. Which is puzzling, considering just how ridiculously hot and sunny it gets here most of the year. Maybe it's the exterior view that spooks them: they don't want to seem weird as the only neighbors to have blueish glass. Maybe they're simly not convinced that it works as advertised (it does). Or maybe it's an HOA thing. Idunno. It can't be the price, as the upcharge isn't all that much. It's not like they're upgrading to laminated glass. I guess it's something for the marketing folks to figure out!

@d.a.9937 Funny thing: from reading the tech specs online at Anlin's website, I had chosen the SunShield glass package after the very first read-through 🙂...And I live in DFW ! Does your company work with the public ? Any contact info you would be able to share ? I am looking for 14-15 replacement windows of Del Mar / DelMar E. Thanks...

If have the Anlin SunMatrix I understand the exterior is darker. That said, when you are looking from the inside to the outside is it still a clear nice view or is it darker than without the SunMatrix?

Your KZbin channel has been very helpful for me, as I've been researching Anlin windows. I'm trying to decide between Infinit-e, SunMatrix, and SunShield glass packages. To my understanding, the Infinite-e and SunMatrix have a green tint, while the SunShield has a blue/grey tint. If I am inside, looking outward, will my view also be colored green or blue? Lastly, when you say that the room will be darker with SunMatrix or SunShield, how much are we talking? Is it dark like you're outside in the shade? Or dark as in you need to turn on a light to see well?

Hi Darren, I am glad to know I have helped in a way. The Sun Matrix will be slightly lighter and allow more natural light through the glass than the SunShield for sure. The blueish glass is a very very high performer against the sun, especially on south facing rooms that have little to no eaves or foliage to protect the window. Either would still allow light in, but it will be noticeably more shaded in the room. No need to turn on the lights during the day, it is not quite that bad.

Hi John, the two glass LowE coating are different in shade. The 366 is darker and lets in slightly less natural light that the 272. Great question though!

In the right conditions (or wrong depending on the circumstances), 272 tends toward a slight purple while 366 is going to be more to the green.
