I just finished The Death of Grass yesterday. It was a great novel. I found the breakdown of principles fascinating. 🐶 for Olive.

This is a great book. It is hard not to think of The Walking Dead while you read it, that’s for sure. Great video!

One of those books that I was expecting to be just kinda cool, but was pleasantly surprised how great it was.

I am one of those who love zombie novels like World War Z, I Am Legend, and yet I have never watched The Walking Dead series. I suppose we just don't watch much television. The Death Of Grass sounds very interesting. Agree that in all these Post-Apocalyptic scenarios it has nothing to do with the virus/zombies but about the people and the human dynamics. That is why I love The Stand and Swan Song so much- even with the supernatural element. 🐕🐕🐕

I haven’t read Swan Song… the length scares me. I actually haven’t read the stand either, for the same reason, though I am a big fan of the old miniseries.

Love this - love how you linked it to The Walking Dead which I love very much. I did a video on this but can't remember how much I talked about TWD - it's definitely a strong parallel though - I need to look at my video on this book again hahaha - such a brilliant book - I've recommended it for anyone that liked Day of the Triffids too....awesome writing.

I saw your Walking Dead video, but not the Death of Grass one. I will need to go take a look at that myself! I’m planning to read Day of the Triffids soon, as I enjoyed the Chrysalids

I love The Death of Grass, I think its one of the more probable apocalypse scenarios and I think how quickly violence occurs is probably true too. I never made that connection with The Walking Dead but it is similar.

Yeah, I guess when thinks get scary, people start acting frantically pretty quick. Just look at what happened with all that toilet paper in 2020.

I love zombie movies and books and I borrowed the Walking Dead omnibuses from my brother to read, but I’ve never watched the TV series so going in blindly! The Death of Grass sounds really good. I agree, I’m more interested to see how the rest of humanity falls apart and how they cope with the situation rather than the specifics of the actual zombies or virus. Sorry to hear the pacing was a little bit off! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it and have put it on my list! I also have I Am Legend in my library holds to read, so hoping that ones comes in soon! I just love that little Olive 😊🐶 🦴 🐾 ✨

Another book you guys might like if you liked the death of grass is the following - The diffids by John wyndham - As far as ny feet will carry me by Joseph bauer - to build a fire by Jack london - the great alone by Kristin Hannah - the long walk by Slavomir rawicz - Hatchett by Gary Paulsen These books are classics all the way upto 2023. The best one is within the book to build a fire.. the short story, and it' it's about 20 pages long on "to build a fire". It's starts off with a man and his dog in an apparent land of ice, snow and mountains.. thats completely barren and hopeless. He's alive and hopeful for the time being, but his wits will be tested when the cold hots minus 40c and he has no protection like gloves. 😮 My favorite was Hatchett, the man has an axe, hes trapped in the wilderness and has to fend off wildlife such as wolves and bears 😂 I wouldn't survive past the lack of toilet paper 😂 let alone a bear!!

Ha! Me neither! 😂. I was planning to read the Day of the Triffids by Wyndham soon, as I read his Chrysalids/Re-Birth a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendations… I wasn’t aware of these other ones!

You've definitely sold me on reading this one -- just as soon as I get off my snooty Classical Antiquity phase. 😊 I read your comment about the length of Swan Song and The Stand being offputting, but Matheson's novella "I Am Legend" makes for some grim, lonely, tightly written, and in my opinion better, post-apocalyptic fun. Just don't be too disappointed if the pathogenic culprit turns out to be (very, very, very mild spoiler follows) bacterial instead of viral. Gasp! Talk about subversive! 😜 Olive seemed uninterested, but my dog could opine on death and grass. She LOVES eating the stuff, especially in the Spring. I know most dogs will munch on grass every now and then, but my weird canine companion will graze like a cow if you let her. 😁🐶

😂🤣. Olive doesn’t eat grass. Her sister will on occasion, but I think it’s usually when she’s not feeling well. I very much enjoyed the Will Smith movie I am legend, but have yet to read the book. I do plan to, for sure.

If you're in an end of the world kind of mood maybe check out The Birds by Frank Baker? It's from 1936 and the author sued Hitchcock for stealing his book for the film. Or one of the first post-apocalyptic novels with After London by Richard Jefferies. People really struggle with the Jefferies book because it feels so trope-heavy because it invented so many of them.
