Your reviews of other Digimon games are what got me to this channel so it's always a treat to see a new one. This game is certainly no hidden gem but I feel like this is a far better use of the engine/assets of the Data Squad game. I can't believe Bandai never brought it over stateside. Also when talking about end game stuff, you only mentioned meeting Davis. Did you not get through it all or was meeting all the other series protags just not even worth mentioning to you?

I quit it pretty quickly, hey. I think I got through 2 or so bosses with Davis and stopped because I couldn't control or tweak Magnamon, and he kept dying in 1-2 hits from enemies. I assumed there'd be nothing beyond that point worth playing, so I just quit. Even if there were original characters or more bosses, the fundamental design of the dungeon was lazy and repetitive. Month old video but I'll comment anyway. It kind of upsets me that to this day, this is the only digimon game that actual lets you visit and explore the fantastical digital world. Every other game emphasizes the digital side of the digital world rather than the Alice and wonderland inspired madness of the original series. The setting is kind of the reason I liked the Digimon Adventure anime over the Pokémon anime.
@Caspicum6 жыл бұрын
That's a great point. I do like that each iteration has its own take on what the 'digital world' should be, but you generally get computer-themed shit instead of bizarre worlds. I think the best crack at it has been the original Digimon World, which might also be down to the way in which you explore it, contributing to its strangeness. You right tho.

Tamers would be nearly perfect for this format. You would only have to balance a 3 character party, with some guest characters. They may have to make some compromises, like making the digital fields in the first half of the show into mini dungeons with multiple enemies instead of 1, and something would have to be done to balance times the party is split up.

Especially Guilmon, He’s the face of Tamers and is the only digimon season(besides adventure) that’s worth going back to. Most fans love Tamers for how dark it gets like how one of the characters partner digimon dies and stays dead. The character’s mom also dies which leads to her (insert spoilers here).... Recently picked up this game on emulator to play the English patch (the one i played so far has no text beyond the text box boundaries, so i think it has improved), and I found out if you made good use of the Digipieces, all fights become way shorter. Like, last night i just defeated VenomVamdemon (VenomMyotismon) in probably only 5-7 minutes (excluding all cutscenes) because each time my Digimon attacks it inflicts maximum 9999 damage or near to it. I am still yet to start the Dark Masters arc but compared to the Boss in Digimon Data Squad, the enemies in this game are way less tankier if you can take advantage of the Digipieces modification. Also, power of emulator frameskipping to speed up farming is just as broken as power of friendship.

The Patamon sections genuinely had me questioning "Do I skip this and go straight to Hacker's Memory instead?" fuck patamon
@sofaris5766 жыл бұрын
You know there is a chip that gives double exp to the Digimon that you equip it? I just give it to Patamon so despite the fact I never used him unless I was forced to he keeped up with the rest of the Party in terms of Lv and once he got his Ultimate evelution he become pretty bad ass. I found Magnaangemon better than most Mega Digimon including Seraphimon. Havensgate hits hard and has a high chance of delaying the next turn. On top of that holy attacks do insane amounts of damage to certain Digimons like Piedmon. In the Boss fight against him I actually made wargraymon a support Character because he could not do much to Piedmon while the Angels just slaughtered him. The Part where you have to face Piedmon without the Angels is a huge pain. You know when you get Phoenixmon. The sections where Patamon is forced into the party where never really an Issue. When Metalgarurumon was forced into the Party that was annoying. To be frank I found both Lilimon and Magnaangemon way more useful than Metalgarurumon. Lilimons debuf move rocks pretty hard and buffs and debuffs are incredible powerful in this game so I got actually more out of it If I buff up Wargraymon and used Lilimon to debuff instead of letting both Mega Digimon just attack. On top of enable Wargraymon to Rip the enemy a new one the enemys attack become so weak because of the debuff Angewomon needs to heal less often and can ad some damage ore buffs herself. Yeah the debuff move is kinda luck based but the odds are in the players favour. There was a round against Venommyotismon where the debuff move worked so well that Angewomon did not needed to heal the group once. I just slaughtered him without him being able to do shit to me. Because of that Metalgarurumon was pretty much a liability and was pretty underlevelt when I was forced to use him. I found it really funny when I used Lilimon instead of Metalgarurumon in the party against Venommyotismon.

The game is pretty awesome, but it sucks that the post-game is... the game itself. After you finish the "tai-clone cameos", you can replay the entire game but keeping your levels/digipieces/etc, and there's a new dungeon with the toughest digimon to battle... but you can't use Tailmon/Angewomon/Ofanimon until you replay the Myotismon saga... which sucks.

Oh, damn. I never got that far into it :( I went in a fair bit, and just thought it was the endless dungeon forever. That honestly sounds kinda cool.

I enjoyed Digimon, it wasn’t a pokemon rip-off like people said. Honestly if anyone would actually research stuff then they would find out that rip-offs aren’t all as they seem.

Honestly I found Metalgarurumon kinda useless. Lilimon and latter Magnaangemon proofed to be way more useful.

This was unexpected to say the least, the game looks super interesting. It makes me wonder if it was on a more viable system if we would have gotten a western release.
@Caspicum6 жыл бұрын
We missed a lot of other releases around the same time, so probably not. It was a strange time for the old Digman.

I'm glad they didn't put the "cooler american" opening and digievolution songs in the spanish version, that would have ruin the series so much :')

I've generally said everything I wanted to in the 15~ minutes. I try to run a tight ship, but I've had a lot of people asking me about longer videos recently. This Golden Sun video I'm writing now will probably be the longest to date, possibly even being over 20 minutes. Outside of that, I like the 10-20 minute format I've got going now. There is one series though. One video idea I have. That will be huge. Gigantic. Maybe even close to an hour long. I'll do it one day :(

Odd to see you speak so positively of it, personally it's my least favourite Digimon game as the battles felt like a slog and the story was a worse version of the original. I guess our opinions on Digimon games differ quite a bit lol

Why are you comparing the combat system to grandia? It seems like it has nothing to do with everything that makes grandia's system tick. This is just the FFX battle system.
@Caspicum5 жыл бұрын
I think I did a pretty good job of explaining why, but maybe I didn't. Primarily, it was because there are two types of attacks. You've got a heavy-hitting attack, and attacks which deal less damage, but which have secondary effects. This is similar to Grandia's basic attacks, in how you've got combo, which is for damage, and critical which is for the effect. Where Grandia took their system, and utilized it in an amazing manner, Digimon Adventure stuck with a bland, generic take. It offered little incentive to use the turn delay abilities, because they either didn't enact enough of a delay to be worth the damage trade-off, and it was optimal to just ass-blast enemies with the strongest-hitting moves and heal when necessary. Grandia uses a similar idea, but the turn cancelling is more effective at certain points on the timeline, and you can delay enemy attacks, saving you a round of healing, or even potentially stalling the enemy out until you can revive/heal allies. Sometimes it's just nice to get a free attack. There're so many variables with the semi-real-time combat, that what you require will never be 1:1 on repeat playthroughs, or even in subsequent encounters, thus it requires some sort of brain activity. FFX requires no brain activity, and I would've been comparing one crappy system to another. No offense to FFX, but the only time you have to use your brain is in Macalania temple, and even that is more pattern memorization, which can also be grinded around.
