Digimon Survive is a standout visual novel wrapped around one of the worst turn-based tactics systems ever. Even if there’s a little too much filler padding out its length, the well-written story, charming characters, lovely visual style, and surprisingly dark tone are all fantastic. But those strengths only sometimes manage to overcome a combat system that’s so primitive and bland it hardly warrants being called a tactics game at all, dragging everything Digimon Survive does well down with it.

This game is clearly not for everyone. It's 70% visual novel 30% combat. The combat already is for a specific taste, long story short do your homework and you won't regret your choice. P.S. It's also a very mature story so if you come expecting the happy go lucky world like pokemon don't even bother looking this way.

For example if 10 websites gave a game an 8, then 10 other website gave it a 4, the metascore in this situation will be a 6 (the average). Thats why metacritic provides a number which highly reflects the general concensus surrounding a particular game/movie/tv show in comparison with a single review which could be prone to personal bias.

Rough end score. I'd say the VN aspect of the game alone along with the story make this game deserve an 8 at least. The tactics style gameplay is not bad, it's missing some qol things like being able to preview attack range while moving but it doesn't feel worse because of those.
