Shlt like this is the very definition of abuse of the legal system. Everyone contributing to this is to blame, primarily lawyers who flood the courts with this nonsense. In my definition, everyone who studies and practices law is at best a dubious character. In any case a completely unproductive, superfluous parasite of society that we could all do perfectly fine without.

"we've been fighting for lower prices and an open market" Says the company who tried to sue Jim Sterling for making a let's play of their game. The best part of that statement is the following screenshot taken from James's 100 users lawsuit. imgur.com/a/UpwvI68 As you can see, he claimed that he only lowered the prices because the users "forced" him into the low price market and it looks like he thinks those high prices were "reasonable." James never says exactly what he's thinking. Instead, he says things that make himself look good in a particular situation which is why he keeps contradicting himself.

Despite what a lot of people are saying and from what a lot of people have been messaging me about, I am highly doubtful that the Romines are going to be returning to Steam, as even an idiot can see there will be more risk than reward for them, especially with the significantly higher load of games coming onto the platform, even if they did come back, they won't generate much revenue than in comparison to when the platform was significantly less noisy, but I am still getting pretty sick of the almost daily posts/messages of people telling me that they have returned and their only evidence is that the game is an asset flip. Regardless, I applaud you for putting this video together, and is a satisfying nail in the coffin of the company's legacy.

@FredrikKnudsen6 жыл бұрын
I know, right? I'm under the impression that even Jim doesn't know what he said, just that it made him drop the case. Robert implies that he threatened to pull Robert into the case, so that might have had something to do with it.
@InfernalLawyer6 жыл бұрын
I would LOVE to know that too. Sadly the only specific information that we have is "My lawyer apparently told the fuckers what we would do if they continued the case" from Jim, and "They threatened to involve my brother" from James. That being said, I just re-watched a part of Jim's vid on the lawsuit, and he says his lawyer explained "how their little argument would play out in court". It sounds like Robert realized that the claims he was making were going to be completely demolished in court when examined, or that the process would require doing that he REALLY didn't want to do (like the aforementioned involvement of James). One way or another, we know Jim basically threatened them into fucking off. Which is fair enough when someone's already sunk their teeth into your arse.
@SunnyAznable6 жыл бұрын
InfernalLawyer I’d say perhaps less threatened, and more illustrated the reality of the situation with a level of clarity and hard facts that the Romines simply had no grasp of. That becomes really clear when you hear Jim do the whole blow-by-blow. James seemed to never really understand any of what was going on at any given stage.
@krisfrosz1336 жыл бұрын
I'd like to imagine the lawyer spoke to James Romine like talking to a real caveman. Lawyer: You, bad man. Jim Sterling, good man. Suing Jim Sterling, very bad. Go to courtroom, nononono. James Romine: Durrrrr....but me want money. Lots of money. Suing people, lots of money! Laywer: [Facepalms] Look, suing people, you go to jail. Jail has no money. James Romine: Durrrrr.....that no good. Ok, me no sue Jim Sterling no more. Something like that. XD

So the funny thing is that in their phone call with Jim Sterling, Robert Romaine argues that critics are bad for the industry. But the Romaines clearly don't remember the video game market crash of 1983 where the industry lost 2/3's of its value in a single year and the cause of it was far too many crappy games flooding the market with no proper quality control and no proper way for consumers to make informed decisions. 5:37 - "I'm going back to the work force and watching what's really going on." - James Romine Wow! Just wow! So all those game developers (eg. Blizzard, Nintendo, Naughty Dog) who have spent hours and hours and hours making games are not considered work? From pre-production to QA to crunch time (which I'm sure the Romines never did any of this for their games) - is that not part of being in a work force? This goes to show how brain dead the Romones are. They clearly have no clue how game development or the Internet works. And to this day, they have not once wrote an official apology message to the public. They still live in denial, still think they did nothing wrong and still trying to con people with Loot Toot Games. Your documentaries are fucking amazing. Started with the Spoony video (which really got to me on a heavy level as someone with experience of mental health issues and how they can derail your whole life) and now I'm hooked enough to get into the ones on unfamiliar subjects. I'd never heard of these guys before but it's been a trip discovering their deeply pathetic story. Also 'emboldened by his rudimentary legal skills' is a turn of phrase so beautiful it makes me want to weep.

In regards to everything bad happening to them - they had it coming by attacking and lashing out against criticism and playing lawyers in such a public way. Whether it's karma, God or common sense, from all sides they deserve it and they brought this upon themselves.

One of the biggest problems with their argument about lost revenue/profit is they have no proof. While it can be a viable point in some lawsuits, you need actual data to back it up. Sales trends, records, demographic analytics, all sorts of data is needed to make this a viable claim. Anyone can claim they would’ve made a million dollars if Facebook hadn’t hid their page or whatever. You need actual data to back it up. It doesn’t count as lost money if you never had it to begin with.

I agree. There's just something facinating about watching people like DSPgaming and Digital Homocide's egos just..wither away from a safe distance. It's like watching a fire burn down to it's last, smoking ember. I might be a bit of a sadist, and I do feel like I'm kind of a jerk when I say this, but I find these drama stories to be far more entertaining than TV Programs.

Here's some of what Jim was being sued for initially: He said Digihom was about as sly as those criminals from Home Alone, the Wet Bandits. It was a friggin joke, not grounds for defamation. He called James "Romaino" or something like that, a mistake he made which made them think he was calling him the mafia godfather, basically. It wasn't the intention, but still funny nonetheless. He said that when ECC Games caught Digihom infringing on trademark, there weren't enough popcorn on earth to enjoy the farce, and Sterling's lawyer basically said "So what? You can't prove that." He also said the Galactic Hitman page used a Deviantart image, later claimed to be Shutterstock merch. And for this James demanded half a mil for emotional distress and a certain amount of money for 100 hours of figuring out how to make his friggin lawsuit without a lawyer, YOU SORRY LITTLE INGRATES! As well as fees I don't care about which add up to around 11 mil, not 10 mil... friggin idiot. The second version included another mil in punitive damages. But worst of all was the third version. And Jim could easily have made a point to countersue, considering the civil conspiricy included these gems: It said Jim was a direct competitor who wanted to profit off his failure because he made VA cameos in other games. NO! They are not good enough to compete with anyone but Fur Fun or Dentola. It said Sterling's Steam Cleanlight was deliberately harassing him, that he brought awareness to ECC Games that they were infringing on their name, that Micro Strategic Games was intentionally ruptured due to his confirmation that they were Digihom, that he convinced Valve to disown Digihom and that his fanbase - NOT DIRECTLY AFFILIATED TO HIM AS EVEN ROMAINO ADMITTED HAD HARASSED HIM WHILE STERLING TOLD THEM TO NOT TO DO THAT!! - had harassed them. Yep, it pissed him off just as much. And like you heard, his lawyer said that the emotional distress was likened to that of a parent thinking their kid was kidnapped and killed. Digihom claimed harassment only to harass Jim Sterling himself. He was the one who deserved to sue them, but didn't because he didn't want to become the consequences. Romaine cannot affoard a lawyer, much less pay Jim Sterling, who decided not to get Romaine into more trouble. Goodbye, Jimmy Romaine and good riddance. Thank God for Jim Fucking Sterling Son.

I'd just like to repeat what someone else commented on the first video: What's bizarre about this whole thing is that the Ramine brothers are clearly con-artists. But normally when con-artists are outed, they just pack up and move on to the next con. They might defend it a little bit, but when things get too hot they just split. These guys actively sought out criticism and waged war with it, drawing attention to themselves and making claims there was no way they could substantiate. That is the opposite of what con-artists do. Delusional is definitely the way to describe their behavior. It would seem they either forgot to leave their pride at the door when engaging in a con that involves making bad games, or this is just them ACTUALLY playing at being respectable "game developers."

I know there are newer videos I can post this on but this is the one that convinced me so, here it is. Your videos are awesome man! I started with the Mouse Utopia Experiments video which was fascinating, moved onto your ChrisChan and Spoony videos, and watched your video on Wings of Redemption until 2am last night (all yesterday). I'm not even that interested in a lot of the gaming community or the drama surrounding it, but your research is so thorough and you leave no stone unturned, and the story telling aspect captures my attention perfectly. Some years ago I had a dream where I saw something similar to that thumbnail of the "Loot Toot Games" Mascot, it was even in the same kind of environment. Some little character asked me "What does 'Homicide' mean? Does it mean 'Mommy' or 'Daddy?' Because that makes me happy!" And this is the first I heard of this fiasco that I can recall.
