My favorite SCP is totally SCP-504, the Ballistic Tomatoes, a strain of tomatoes that react exclusevely to bad comedy by flinging themselves at incredible speeds at the source, often causing injuries and ocasionally fatalities.

This was an awesome video! But just a little correction: Object classes do not define the danger of an anomaly, it actually measures the *dificulty to contain.* It's easier to explain with the "Box": If you leave your anomaly in a box, and nothing happens, it's probably Safe. If you leave your anomaly in a box, and you don't know what'll happen, it's probably Euclid. If you leave your anomaly in a box, and it breaks out of it, it's probably Keter. If your anomaly *is* the box, it's probably Thaumiel.

there is one... we dont speak of it jk the hidden class is Apollyon, if we return to the box example Apollyon essentially means that the box is breaking and whats inside the box can destroy existence itself, in many cases there is no way to keep things marked as Apollyon permanently contained so the foundation can only hope and pray that something doesn't happen to speed up the universes inevitable doom.

I'm not typically a fan of horror, but I love the SCP Foundation. What I like about it is that it gets rid of all of the dumb decision-making horror story characters typically have and comes up with creatures/anomalies/etc that are scary even if you *know* what you're doing. Basically, steelmanned horror movie monsters. Also, I tend to like the stranger SCP's such as the Hateful Star and the Minus Level, which are really novel thought experiments in addition to being creepy.
@Low_commotion
@Low_commotion 7 жыл бұрын
Ender Skies Minus world is only slightly creepy, but I like it because it focuses on being weird (and promoting further thought and discussion of "What would it be like?" more). Not every SCP is creepy, for example I don't find 2000 scary at all, despite it talking about humanity having to be loaded from backup several times. Ditto for the Architect (184) and "Inside", but those are also among my favorites.

12:27- hate to be rude, but that is false. Keter ≠ dangerous. Basically, a keter is difficult to contain. I believe they said something along the lines of this on the website- “a cat that randomly swaps places with another cat on earth would be a keter class, due to how hard it is to contain.” As well as “a button that could destroy the universe would be safe class, as long as it’s secured where no one can touch it.” They also talk about what is known as the box test- “If you put the SCP in a box and it stays, it’s safe. If you put it in a box and you aren’t sure what will happen, it’s euclid. If you put it in the box and it escapes, it’s keter. If it _is_ the box, it’s thaumiel.” These aren’t exact quotes, just off the top of my head. So yeah. Safe means it can be contained easily Euclid means it’s not fully understood or it’s unpredictable- humanoid SCPs are often put into this class, and this class is also the most numerous. Keter means it’s difficult or sometimes even impossible to contain Thaumiel is a rarer class, but these are used to help contain other SCPs Neutralized is self explanatory, either it was accidentally or purposely destroyed or deactivated. Just had to get that off my chest. Hope it helps. Edit: I did forget a few, my bad. Apollyon is completely uncontainable, such as SCP-001: When Day Breaks. You can’t contain the sun. Explained is what it sounds like- the SCP is no longer considered anomalous since its properties are understood better.

The roleplay aspect of the first three administrators is amazing. First the mad doctor that has made his life goal to understanding the unknown, with his knowledge, cunning, and unhinged sanity, he rose to the top with frightening efficiency. Next, a military vet that was the only survivor of his unit after encountering an SCP and his skills were recruited to become the head of SCP Response teams. When in the shadows he was the leader the entire time. And then Dog head, no literally. Yes, so immersive.

I just realized why the logo of the Foundation has three points: The procedure for the "first" SCP required a minimum of three personnel to maintain eye contact. Three arrows pointed inwards. Also, even the drama on the damn site is wrapped in that same clinical, white-coat sterile-syringe style of speech and writing.

Ok, forget what I said, my NEW favorite SCP is SCP-1171, "HUMANS GO HOME". It's a house in which one of the windows serves as a way to communicate with some sort of extra-dimensional, extra-terrestrial life form. This being is actually super friendly and approacheable, except for the fact that he's weirdly racist towards humans. "*OH, THEY'RE THE WORST. I MEAN, DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'M NOT RACIST OR ANYTHING. That actually gets me wondering... What is a Creepypasta supposed to be nowadays and how do you differentiate between a Creepypasta and just another Horror Story on the internet. When I was younger, I use to think/believe that the rules for a Creepypasta, while loose were: They have to involve a modern day twist and they need to be at least slightly believable. This is why characters/creatures like the Rake, Slenderman, or even Eyeless were such popular characters for the fanbase at the time. They were designed with a certain down to earth 'believability' at the time. And while many (Including me) could call them and their stories underwhelming, it was the great mystery and subtlety that made those stories work in a way. Nowadays, most Creepypasta characters are designed to be Mary Sue/Self-Insert characters with a sort of Vanity Project Fix. Take for example: Helen The Bloody Painter, Judge Angel, Clockwork, Hobo Heart, or Toby. Rather then try to make a story that builds up atmosphere or makes a good story, the stories seem to be made to appeal to the author's fantasies and hope that the character becomes popular. Looking at you Sonic.EXE. While I understand that a demographic like this will always exist because of how everyone has access to do what they want with a story and the characters of the Creepypasta Fanon because they're public domain, I can't shake the fact that they've lost their identity because of how long it's been. And while I do appreciate a set of stories where anything is possible, Creepypastas I feel like have lost their charm BECAUSE no one can really tell what separates a Creepypasta from any other scary story. Now don't get me wrong, there are still good scary stories being written but I'm not sure if they need to be Creepypastas anymore, like when you listen to a scary story nowadays it can just be a scary story. Some of these Creepypastas take place in Space or in a Fantasy Universe, I feel like that might be breaking the rules but perhaps there were no rules in Creepypastas to begin with and then you see why they lost their identity as opposed to the SCP which attempted to do a strict resurgence of those rules. I suppose a spirital successor to the Creepypastas in my opinion are those scary Reddit posts about real things that may have happened to them because there's always a sense of grounded-ness to their stories. Don't know if people could categorize it at this point and it's not lie you need to.

I first stumbled upon the SCP fandom in 4th grade. I thought it was miles scarier than anything i've ever heard about before. After that, I became so paranoid I couldn't sleep in my own room anymore. I even recall seeing a face on my ceiling one night. It really messed me up but I loved it. Now tough it's been years since I really left the community so I don't think of it much nowadays, just reminisce what used to be.

Sadly you didn't mention the quite well-written fancfic on the whole admin conflict. It was written in-universe and uses a quite a few SCP. It's not horror, but is interesting as a sort of supernatural game of thrones on a smaller scale. Edit: Actually, there are A LOT of tales based on the universe that actually involve site staff and SCPs. If you are interested in one particular SCP I suggest you look up tales with it. Half of fanfics are probably gonna be good.

My favorite SCP is 2966 It’s essentially a self refilling toilet paper dispenser. Of course, there’s a twist. It creates new TP by absorbing heat energy from the surrounding area, so a nuclear reactor is attached to it to provide the necessary energy so it doesn’t turn the area into a tundra wasteland. The problem is that if the housing gets too much TP, it’ll go super critical and blow up (exact numbers are redacted, but there’s references to the 50 megaton Czar Bomba). This means it’s stored is a super secluded area, manned by a skeleton crew. 3 times a day at precise times, a D class goes into its containment and removes 10 sheets to maintain adequate equilibrium. Supposedly it’s superb TP too.

@@LethargicScientist There is too much variation and too little moderation basically vast quantity very low quality imo. Articles being protected from criticism and every article has at least one transgender charector, if reality matched scp articles by representation than half the population would be LGBTQ. I get alot of scp writers are gay but if every storyline has a lgbtq person it ends up feeling like fan fiction. They go back and fuck up classic articles like the teenage succubus without having decent replacement, also every mystery being explained in a lackluster way and several hundred timelines most of which do not stick to what SCP was about. It Sucks. (My examples: transgender alien is bad, tumblr posting meteorite is bad, teenage succubus is edgy trash, montauk has a thousand explanations now, site 15 and SCP one, any tales or abandoned series seriously take ur pick there's like ten that go nowhere)
@LethargicScientist
@LethargicScientist 4 жыл бұрын
@@sometimeslol5578 are you just saying that they write too many gay people? A lot of the authors are lgbtq and they want to write something that mirrors their own experience. I don't see why that should be a problem. There's still a lot of creative stuff coming out of the site and I don't see why the amount of lgbtq characters should change that. I think it's important to have a range of diverse authors and creators. Maybe you have to sift through a *bit* more garbage than before but honestly both new and established creators are doing some really interesting writing right now, and I'd argue that it's more interesting than ever. And saying that there's "too much variation" is a very wierd complaint IMO. I would agree that they need to tighten the reigns a bit in regard to crappy tales but I don't think that's a reasonable argument for "the entire site is garbage now." I'd also like to say that I think the fact that so many authors have explained Montauk is a neat little phenomenon that is really egged on by the text itself. Edit: also I like tumblr meteorite :(

Keter = Very Difficult/almost impossible to contain. Euclid: Difficult to contain but possible Safe: Contained/Not a current threat An example of Keter would be like a cat that can switch places with another cat anywhere else in the world at will. And Example of Euclid is like a water stream dam. You can contain it, but you have to make sure that the dam is maintained, or else the containment will break. An Example of Safe would be like a button on a box that destroys the universe. Simply putting in a metal box, locked away and hidden, places it as safe. SCP-682 is Keter because it's containment requires very specific requirements, and getting him back into containment is a war unto itself. Everything they use against him would only make him stronger and essentially immune against what they used against him. The only thing that worked against him so far is a very power type of acid that is pumped constantly into his chamber, which is made of a strong material resistant to acid, but also strong enough to hold 682. SCP-049 is Euclid, mostly because aside from his ability to kill with a touch and resurrect the dead, his physical ability is still mostly that of a normal Human. So putting him in a locked chamber with a viewing window a level above is enough, but putting him in it does require effort, as (again) he kills with just a touch. SCP-1499 is safe because, even though it allows you to essentially enter another dimension where you can be attacked and mauled viciously, at the end of the day it is a simple gas mask that can just be stored in a locked box where only those with clearance can access. It's contained, so it's not considered a threat. It doesn't mean, as I gave examples, that they pertain to something horrible if their Keter, or something like SCP-999 if their safe. But it just pertains to the level of difficulty it is to contain it.

Thank you so much for this video. It opened up the amazing world of SCP to me. I'm truly hooked (down the rabbit hole,some might say).Can't get enough of the SCP content on KZbin either. And it's all because of your video, so thanks 😊 (ps.been meaning to type this for months).

A more in-depth description of the class system. The class system does not relate to destructive capabilities, rather it relates to the difficulty of containment. Safe - Can be easily secured and poses little to no threat of escape. An example would be the alarm clock that becomes louder and louder the longer it takes for someone to press the snooze button. It takes little to prevent the SCP from destroying, thus it is safe. Euclid - More difficult to contain. Anything with any form of intelligence gives an SCP this classification. 173 is Euclid due to it having intelligence. However, the containment proceudres are not too difficult and it is possible to keep it contained. Keter - Very difficult to contain. An example would be a cat that can teleport anywhere on the world. While it is nt dangerous, its containment is rather difficult. Those are the three main classes. There are dozens more that authors use to describe their creation, but those three are the mosy important to know.

I made an idea for an SCP, one that would not hold a numerical designation at all. SCP-X “Six Set Tests” A Keter-class SCP that could potentially be Thaumiel, an anomaly the Foundation created itself to try and make a wormhole device, which after six experiments, annihilated a facility and formed a supermassive black hole on the Earth’s surface. It actually is still a wormhole, but it sends objects into Earth orbit at roughly less than the altitude the James Webb Telescope is at right now.

Just one thing you got wrong is the classes don't mean how dangerous the scp is but how hard it is to contain it like for example a safe scp could turn your skin into molten lava if you came within 5 meters of it but a keters effect could be that it makes everyone who looks at it for more than 5 seconds have their hair slowly turn blue over a week

I'm sure u can find a old youtube video giving a reading but the new one has the succubus charector killing a doctor just because the doctor is trying to help her and she goes on a big rant unprompted on how she is not helpless and dosnt need help and it's potrayed as some sort of good thing. Comes off as a hormone blob passing off their unhealthy anger as some kinda positive by ruining another person's story. The original she was just a teenage girl who chills out in her cell and has alot of past trauma due to her anomaly. I feel like that's the problem with scp now, u can kill babies and damn souls to eternal torment and it's cool and epic but if ur story contains elements of transphobia or mentions sexual assault too far buddy (the doorknob is another one).

As an SCP author and active member of the community, I think there is enough stuff that has happened since this video came out to warrant a follow up. The 4Chan raids during Pride Month and, relatedly, the RPC split off Cole to mind. As well as the slow changes in writing styles, maybe some of the lore of the site - there is a LOT to dig in to.

As an original fan of the group that worked their asses of to build the glorious Lovecraftian horror universe that made people afraid of the dark, that gave excitement to the lives of people who came across it, that told panic attack inducing stories, and that you ruined with your shitty OCs and forcing of real world politics into a fictional universe, I say piss off. You don't deserve their credit for what they did and you sure as hell don't deserve to tell them what to do with the world they built. They don't deserve to take the accusations of homophobia, racism, and bigotry that you throw to protect the self absorbed liars that crawl around the site making self insert, power fantasy, woke, characters that go against what the SCP was founded to do.

Interesting to note, Dr. Gears picture appears to be a photo of Dr. Albert Hoffman, the inventor of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, or LSD...the thing he's holding is a 3D model of an LSD molecule, one has to wonder whether this implies that the creation of acid was in some manner connected with the SCP organization, anyone who's taken a few hundred micrograms of LSD can indeed attest, it is a thoroughly Keter experience.... :P
