I used to have friends who relentlessly made fun of my messy beginning sketches and I always felt deeply embarrassed knowing they could always pump out these smooth and clean ones that put mine to shame. I couldnt make it past the sketch phase after that and I just stopped making art entirely cause I felt like I wasn't improving. Ever since I've found Dave's channel, hearing his thought processes and insecurities through his pieces, and how he manages to turn his messy sketches into beautiful art, I've found the motivation and inspiration to draw and make art again. Idk if you'll ever see this, Dave, but thank you. Truly.

OMG, it just occurred to me that a great way to improve my artistry is to "STUDY" this, following along with you. I use Artrage to digitally paint, and I can use something like this to teach myself about my program and brushes to achieve a similar effect. It also shows me how much time it takes to make something on the level of Blizzard to work for them. Thank you Dave for sharing your process, you just unlocked a block in my art progress =).

Learn to draw from reference first, and the more and more you do it, the more familiar you'll become with your subject matter and what you want to draw from memory.

You have to observe. Thats all look at movies observe every shot look at the lighting. Think about how the shape is affecting the light. Look at different textures surfaces. IT all comes down to just observinf
