I'm liking the music in the tree screen. Plus, I like that the game has screens and objects of interest that don't further the story. It adds a nice touch of exploration just for the sake of it.

Some people have got really wrapped up in Harry Potter and sort of lost themselves in that fantasy world. For me, it was that way with King's Quest. I fell in love with Daventry when I was a child, and my heart stayed there ever since. I guess it all just goes to show, EGA can be just as magical as CGI. Hail King Graham. :-) Thanks for sharing this.

This was the first PC game I ever played; especially awesome because this was the SCI version I had, rather than the poorly drawn original. As I recall, it came on five or six 5'1/2 floppy disks. It was 1991 and I was 8 years old. Ah, memories.

I laughed when he tried to look at himself and it said "you see nothing special, Sir Graham" XDD awww, poor modest Graham~ He won't be thinking like that when he becomes king, however~ XD

This is an excellent style of LP. You give us background on the game, context within the game, discuss alternate actions and shortcomings.

The Vegas joke makes me wish there was a KQ/Leisure Suit Larry crossover. Like, POOF! Graham randomly falls into the world of Lost Wages!

Graham wouldn't last long in Lost Wages... He'd try to cross the street and get run over on the first screen.

I think of Daventry as being like the surface of a doughnut, which explains how walking either east-west or north-south will put you in a circle!

I didn't start playing King's Quest until KQ3, this reminds me of it with the style including how u find things in the forest. I never completed KQ3, it was too hard.

Wonderful playthrough. My dad got a PCjr in 1984 and got this game with it. I still have the grey box but sadly the floppy has gone missing (as has the PCjr). According to the manual (and the hotkey strip that you could place on the awesome wireless keyboard) you could swim with a single key, and you could duck too!

I know this game is just a fairytale but if that chest of gold was in the real world then with inflation gold would be worthless as any form of currency since you could just toss out a river of gold with out a care in the world.
@Thedarkbunnyrabbit
@Thedarkbunnyrabbit 6 жыл бұрын
This is incorrect. Gold would remain as valuable as it always is so long as the person in control of the chest didn't decide to spread gold everywhere. Also gold doesn't inflate, it's intrinsically valuable. No matter how much gold there is, there will always be those who want it all.
@HexdaHeresiarch

Nah, it just means Daventry can have a Central Crown Bank with a mechanism through that treasury to control inflation.

No problems, the King will just raise taxes to counteract the inflation.

The parser interface was a great way of adventuring back then, plus it makes you think more than actual point & click adventures in many occasions. I wish someone could bring back the good old parser, like they did in Quest For Glory 2 AGDI remake ^_^

Oh, also question- I was working along the backstory, history, and chronological order of the King's Quest games to understand the full history of the series. It says that the Wizard and the Princess is a game that was a founding principle for KQ, but also included in the timeline. I'm not sure I get the connection between the two. Or is it more like Marathon is to Halo?o.o

And five pebbles. Reminds me of the battle of Elah in the eleventh century BC, when a tall Philistine warrior challenged the King Saul of Israel to send forth a champion for monomachy. A month and a third passed, and then one whirl of a shepherd boy's sling and the seasoned veteran was dead and another great warrior's career was off to a dramatic start.

You kidding? A rock that size is easily large enough to kill you. It'd be hundreds of pounds, possibly even 1000. If that rolls over your face or breaks ribs you're dead :D.
