The dance expansion card was first for the JV-80 synth, then the M-DC1 module was later released. A group called AMG was the group that assembled the samples. Roland then licensed the samples from AMG under the impression that all of the samples were cleared. The first sample to be recognized from the dance card was in a hit song by Alanis Morissette called “You Learn”. As I recall, the person who created the drum loop contacted Alanis Morissette’s people and told them that that was him playing the drums on that sample. They responded that they got the sample from the dance card. This started the lawsuit that killed the dance card. This all happened during my 17 years working at Roland.

I really like how you go on to explain not only the structures of a song, but also some of the history and techniques ( as opposed to just playing the chords on screen like most remake/tutorial videos). Edutainment at it's finest.

Aye @dillio2k the remix came out in '93. But it was actually produced by a Kat named All-star. He also did the 'Stutter' remix ft. Mystikal. Teddy got the production credit because he was able to help clear the Human Nature sample, as he had just produced the 'Dangerous' album. And I never knew where that original beat loop came from but I had the Dance card for my Jv1080 and the loop was definitely on there.

That being said I'd love to hear a remake of Janet Jackson "Dosen't really matter" I've been looking all over for those lil laser sounds in the drums... I think it's from a Korg board from 97 but I'd determined to find those lil laser sounds... The used them in Boys to Men "Step on Up" (0:25) you're a champ if you can find it, but low key you a monsta anyway for that scream! Subbed :-)

Actually, it was a cat named All-Star, who also did the remixes for SWV 'Anything' and Joe 'Stutter' remix, did the actual remix. Teddy came onboard because he was able to clear the sample due to his relationship w/Michael Jackson.

I don't know, I feel odd with that Roland MDC1. That thing (as far as I can read on the net) was released in '95. Now the song was released in '92 (probably the recorded the same year or late '91 who knows), so he might have used another keyboard/sampler for the sound, maybe the S-770 or the JV-80 (although I highly doubt the latter because it would be released around the same time as the song) For those looking for the sample, here you go: www.synthmania.com/Roland%20M-DC1/Audio/015%20DeepGrine%2094.mp3

That drum loop sample AFAIK, came from- Steve McIntosh & Joe ‘JC’ Charles, that released a series of loop and sample CD's on AMG sample library company. The series is called Black II Black. Those loops on the Roland dance expansion boards came from Vol 1 & 2. They are from a known UK band "The Cool-notes" that did their thing from 1979-1991. Here's a playlist of their hits. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5WVgWSPeNimoaM This is a list of Steve's & Charles loops. samples-now.com/RnB-samples/
