This is probably not what you were looking for, but I just love the animations that kinda look the dumbest. Such as Sushang's chicken, or Huohuo's basic atk, where she just slaps enemies with a flagpole, while being dragged by her _sentient_ tail because she's too scared to do it.

Yep, I really hope we get comments on him seeing this. Her whole gimmick is that she presents the ‘boba’ to who will he her current master and for her to watch. So now as they attack she gets stacks because she’s watching them, once she gets enough stacks it plays the talent animation, because she understands from watching her sensei, and goes for her imperfect attacks. She’s the only character in the game who’s MEANT to not understand her weapon or fighting style and isn’t a prodigy at it, just learning.

When you go to school for aniimation / design, it just teaches you the language and words to use to describe things most people already 'feel' when they look at something. But once you learn the words to describe these ideas, you can start picking apart the layers and details that otherwise you might not be able to express. A good teacher just shows us how to express what we already 'know' in our gut, when we see art.

I remember having such a headache whenever I try borrowing Seele from strangers, and after farming materials with her for a while I can barely stand her Skill and her Ult, but specifically her Skill because of the weird camera shift that they did with her. Playing on 2x made it way much worse. I didn’t even know I have motion sickness or even some form of epilepsy until I play this game. I legit had to take painkiller medicine for a week straight because of how much headache I was having from first playing this game, I was grinding out the story and everything and it’s not until I got to Penacony that I notice that I can’t stand all the bright flashes and impact frames anymore. Now I ONLY strict myself to playing on mobile phone, with the eye comfort mode and every brightness turned down to the minimum amount, otherwise I can’t play this game.

From a completely artistic standpoint, they're all top tier. All of them has such good artistic animation and effects, i think we can all agree on that. The critique of the physics though and how body parts could move more realisticly or emphazize power in the shot is nice criticism

I think an important part to remember about these animations is that they need to be good in both 1x and 2x speed. While the 1x are definitely more important to get all the important frames, 2x also needs to be able to be translated quite simply off of the 1x animations, which may restrict things sometimes. In the end though, all the animations are insane in HSR and the game has literal Animation-creep where newer characters' animations just keep getting better and better

While it’s unlikely she is throwing the firework down with enough initial *translational* kinetic energy that it bounces that high, you need to remember the fact that the firework is also spinning. Because of its unique shape, some of the firework’s rotational kinetic energy would be transferred to translational kinetic energy in the collision as long as it hits the ground at the right angle. You can see this effect in action if you drop a tic-tac on the ground. If you watch it closely, you will see that as it bounces multiple times, it will often bounce higher than the previous bounce, and often much lower as well. This is because it’s rotational energy is being converted into translational energy and vice versa. Being a skilled performer with lots of practice, Gui could reasonably be able to throw her fireworks in such a way as to harness this effect.

Trying to add context: 36:09 For clarity, Jingliu's game plan is to build up stacks with Skill and Ultimate to access her Enhanced Attack. It's why her skill looks less impressive and doesn't use the ice sword, the video's format mixed things around 55:17 Same issue with Jingliu, where the video obfuscates things. Firefly's game plan is to use her Skill (the flaming divekick) to access Ultimate, where she transform and has access to her Enhanced Skill. 57:32 The issue with March's butterfly kick might be 100% deliberate. Lore wise, she was forced into a surprise martial arts crash course by Yanqing and Yunli (The ultimate's flashback being her training montage), hence why she changed weapon from a bow to swords. It's also why all of her move looks cutesy and amateurish, she actually is an amateur 1:11:27 If you didn't catch it, the Ultimate is an buff that activates her parry. When she gets hit, she'll counter with her Enhanced Talent. If you combine both, you can see the Ultimate as the preparation phase as she builds your anticipation, with it being released on her Enhanced Talent. What you also miss is her Talent when no one's attacking her, but it's the less exciting version of her Enhanced Talent (smaller sword, no parting clouds and sunshine) 1:05:05 Unless it's covered on stream, both of them have the same move and you might miss the Caelus ver.

Man I am a little disappointed by the presentation on feixiao's animations, in-game the follow-up attack automatically happens after using her skill, resulting in a very nice flow of the enemies getting knocked up into the air by her skill and then she immediately dashes in to take advantage, showing off the relentless nature of her fighting style. makes the whole animation way better in my eyes.

Dan Heng's message is accuracy in timing: He aligns the weapon WHEN he reaches the enemy. Herta 'stiffness' is caused of her being a brilliant mind in a doll's body. She controls the momentum so she doesn't falter-spins.

I think it's worth noting that most of these animations are going to be viewed on double speed and, well, I think the animators have a hard time finding a balance between having enough detail for the slower speed and not too much for 2x speed. Animation speed does affect your experience. The Most recent event (Luoafu Wardance) has a cut scene that is a fight between Yangqing and Luka, and it just felt off to me. Unbalanced in a way. It wasn't until I rewatched it on KZbin at .75 speed that I realized that it was animated slightly too fast, which made the whole fight feel awkward. Just slightly slower and it felt much better as a viewer. The camera tracking was more natural and you could understand what was going on much better. I feel like the combat animations are struggling to not feel too awkward when viewed at regular(slow) speed and not unbalanced and shaky when on double speed.

Now this is a treat. (This is a comment offering suggestions to improve HSR animations and point out stuff in the video.) Also I think Dan Heng's ult could have the camera follow him through with that thrust instead of what appears to be a slash since it doesn't really make sense for him to have this pose and have him seemingly appearing from above. I think you can see a frame of Seele with her butterfly wings in her ult. I think Blade could have stretched out his left arm in front in his ult before he hits his ult to provide more momentum and makes the animation more dynamic. Also Lynx doesn't appear to be grabbing her snowboard in her ult animation just having it stick to the back of her hand. 34:15 I think it's a Tai Chi movement, I could be wrong. 35:30 Qingque next to her boss lol. 39:57 Argenti is a Knight of Beauty for a reason. 50:40 I don't think the movement you're suggesting would work well with the drawing of the Tachi. It's supposed to be near her waist and the way you were suggest it be done would have caused the sword to bend. 54:24 Robin actually also performs the song live in combat which you can see in the stats screen inside combat and she's doing a little dance. 1:05:21 Although technically the same person, the muscles on a male is more powerful than on a female, so Caelus would need less momentum to put the lance in position while Stelle would need some more movement to get it high enough. 1:08:35 I would also recommend that Moze have his left arm be in a sort of dab position and then have it swing out to create even more monentum to make the slash have a bit more impact as he can't really turn in the air without that movement. Notice that he did rank Jingyuan better than Danheng. I assume the lore reason for that is beause Dan Heng trained himself to use the spear after escaping the Luofu (and the whole Imbibtor Lunae thing), that's why compared to Jingyuan he's not as good as using a polearm weapon. Although Cloud Piercer spear was made for him when he was Dan Feng, he doesn't actually use it more than he uses just straight up throwing hands and magic power. So i can understand why he isn't as strong as Jingyuan is with the spear.

I think one thing that is tricky about the framing of the animations in this game is that since it can be played on so many different devices so the aspect ratio can differ quite a bit. There are quite a few animations I see in this where the character is half out of the frame but when playing on my monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio or on mobile(what the animations were likely made for) it doesn't seem to happen nearly as often.

Not only that but you also rated Harmony Stelle higher despite the animations literally being identical outside of the little knee slide Caelus does and the end pose. I had an absolute blast hearing you talk about what makes each animation good and not good. you explain and draw everything super clearly, and your commentary makes me appreciate each character's animations a lot more as I play them in game. your humor is also top tier, like the way you described aventurine's skills as him just using his money, his talent as him just opening a portal to his bank account to crush the enemy with coins. absolute fave moment. also, I'm happy you picked up on both the gundam and sailor moon aspects of firefly's animations / posing. you'll see it if you ever watch all the trailers, but she has some magical girl transformation sequences that are just gorgeous. and, of course, HENSHIN.
