Yeah I honestly feel like this is super biased. Yelan really doesn't stand out any differently than a lot of the other characters. I'm at least glad he didn't fall into the Raiden path but still, feels biased.

The fact he said Ayaka's was way cooler than Ayato's despite them being practically the same is a bit disappointing. I was hoping to learn WHY the bursts were good or not in more detail. There's a very clear biased towards the females of the game, especially if you consider the fact that Raiden's animation really isn't that impressive compared to something like Cyno's which has more movement, more to animate, and a more dynamic angle. Also saying something like "Hu Tao's has more of a character driven thing" while not taking character personalities into consideration for others is also weird since it's supposed to be based on animation alone and not the knowledge of the character themselves.

Xiao's burst animation is simple because the real effects are on his plunges and normal/charged attacks. The animation doesn't do any damage so it's short for gameplay's sake. Also, as Fontaine characters are the newest and their animations have greatly improved over time, it's likely their ultimates will all be S or high A tier. I'm interested to see how this list will look once all of them are released.

I feel like if you judge Keqings burst based on the effect that happens after her cinematic shot, you have to give the same treatment to everyone and in that regard Ayato should rank much higher. The visuals are so good to look at and fit his character so well. If you don't take that into account then Keqing's burst is mid as well as it's literally just her looking over her sword

let's be real aside petals and ripples, even though I like a lot of characters animations, ayato skill alone is definitely top 3, which is funnily, basically is what his whole kit relies on. our dude here goes through yelan whole kit and makes her top one, ayato skill singlehandedly outwits yelan whole kit animations lol it's so fun, so smooth and so neat and pleasant to just watch.

A big factor of why animations in the game can feel “too short” is the fact that the animations have to be quick because time plays such a big part in the combat. Due to this, it can be hard to extend parts. An example would be some people criticizing Zhongli’s burst feeling too long or slow. You’re constantly on a time limit in the game with so much off the content, especially spiral abyss where the time you take to complete it is what matters. This is why the animations can’t really be that long.

I think you need to take into consideration the animation effects a Burst might have on the caster's Normal Attacks or Elemental Skill, and vice versa. I noticed you did consider them for Miko and Raiden, but not for others, like Itto, Kokomi, and Cyno. The changes are very noticable.

As a Sound Design student, I think Wriosthelsey is severely lacking when it comes to the sound. It is very impactful visually, but the sound is VERY lackluster. It doesn't have that setup, anticipation and pay off that you see in the animation. I feel like if they put more emphasis on that jet and impact, it would be SS for me. Animation wise, I think when he swings, they should've made the camera swing a little more harshly to match the energy of the punch. In game, it kind of just looks like a powerpoint transition LULUL

OOH you’re right! They could have made Wrio’s sound effect crispier. There is a sound but it’s not very noticeable or maybe bec it happens too fast? Because with Neuvillette, the bell toll sound is quite loud and you can’t miss it. Lyney has his own fun little carnival bgm during his burst (in animation and during his cat form)… Though I have been playing Wrio, and his burst is satisfying in combat haha. It feels like it hurts, from a visual standpoint. Sound, it’s kind of the usual ice swish blizzard sound they us. but i dont really know how they could have improve it.. 😅

We can't deny that Genshin really skimps out on animations though. Wuthering Waves completely blows Genshin's animation out of the water and both Honkai Impact and Starrail are much more creative than most of Genshin's. I see people saying "But short animations because abyss doe" to which I say, just freeze the timer whenever an ult is used then. That is like the most basic thing all modern fighting games do where the timer is frozen whenever a throw or a super connects. Heck I'd even say freeze or skip the boss wakeup animations like Maguu Kinky, Geo wolf boss, Hypostasis, etc. But we all know that people have been suggesting it and the Genshin Devs specifically (not Hoyoverse) never listened.

Some of these i don't quite agree with. I'm not an animator but i do think some of these rankings don't make sense to me. Like Eula being so high but then Kazuha who's slash and build up is almost identical, and then the field too added. Then we have wanderer where a lot is put in and you even said it tells you a lot, but that's A tier, but then Yelan's where the isn't really a lot going on, is ranked S. Same with Nadida. So much detail has gone into it and i'd consider it an S too

One of the thing I also don't like is how he lets Al-Haitham be in A tier bc the excuse of lack of movement in the burst make sense to his character, but then drop Baizhu down to C tier for the exact same reason (lack of movement, being only him swinging his arm like Albedo) but forgot to take into consideration that it made sense and in-character for Baizhu to only do that bc dude is literally sick/had weak physical condition and it would make less sense had Baizhu moved around alot in his burst. Also Keqing burst being S tier despite the lacking animation in her burst (discounting the after one) but then kick Ayato down to C tier even when he shares the same amount of movement in his. He loves Keqing after-burst animation but then immediately ignored Ayato after-burst animation with the water droping down and the pretty detailed water petals around him. He complains about a certain aspect of a character burst, throw them in a lower rank but then 5 seconds later he forgot about it and praise another character that share the same problem as the previous one for some odd reason and put in high tier (Also he just rank based on how flashy they are in some of the burst). Dude calls himself "professional animator" but then judge animations with pure bias and forgetting several aspect that he took consideration in other character but not the rest. (I came from the HSR ultimate animation ranking and my opinion on this dude ranking is still the same. Several character getting butchered to lower tier (B or C) just because it's not flashy (or as he like to calls it, "anticipating") enough for him. Although there's some that I do agree with, still doesn't change that I feel like half of the character there get thrown down the lower tier for some odd, illogical reason)

Honestly Yelan's burst animation is one of my favourites. It's simple, dynamic, looks interesting with and without camera angles. Keep in mind Dillon is a fight animation choreographer. Neuvillette's animations look good from a cinematographic and SFX PoV, but it's super lackluster when you look at the posing and transition frames. It's the complete opposite of Yelan where her entire aesthetic is stylish movements, while Neuvillette's aesthetic is stern and god-like elegance. Two different strengths that really can't be compared.

I cant name myself a professional animator, but I did animate my own models a bit as a hobby, and so I understand the process behind. And so, hearing at the start of the video "a professional animator reaction" I was expecting a strictly technical analisys of the animation. But, honestly, that was very biased toward certain characters. Placing Hu Tao in A for "character" and then B for Yoimiya when they are equaly good, if we speaking about "character" aspect of the burst and fitting it is. Ayato does not deserve C if we, again, considering "character" as one of the aspects of the final grade. Also, very strong bias towards Yelan. A lot of characters in A grade have better bursts than Yelan. So, as a personal tier list I wont say anything, cause thats a personal opinion I wont argue with, but that wasnt really a professional opinion.

But 8:29 Barbara 0:04 is not a 5 star character?

@ Umm, Im not sure what it has to do with my comment, but Barbara has a 5* burst animation (with dynamic camera movement) because in beta she was gonna be a 5*, but then close to release she was demoted to 4*, but developers didnt have time or simply didnt care to rework her burst animation to fit it into 4* grade. Or at least thats a tale that was told since release, I dont know if its actually true or not.

@@YiorKha I know all that, but he said in the video that he will only look at the animation of the five star characters and therefore Barbara will be excluded regardless of whether she has an animation of a five star character or not. He was referring to the fact that he wants to judge animations of the five stars five star and therefore he should only consider the five star characters. Sorry, I'm from Germany and I take such statements very seriously, if you say five star then you should only take five star characters. Especially as his rating is unfortunately full of bias anyway. I'm sorry but I take such statements very seriously.

Cyno and Xiao's bursts have more effects during the combat portion of their bursts. So I'm not sure that's 100% fair assessment of them since you also took into consideration some of Raiden's active combat visuals as well as Dehya's full burst duration which includes her gameplay portion (while she's punching.) Of course, you don't have to consider the entire burst duration, but I'm just saying... I'd put Cyno in high A tier and Xiao in mid B tier when considering instead
