The reason why you had never heard of him before is because the music industry controls what is being played over the radio. Because Dimash did not have a music deal in Europe nor North America, this translates in no deal... no play...no airtime.

How I understand you ! It is with this video that I discovered Dimash 7 months ago! I sent the video to my family saying that I had discovered an alien, I was surexitée! I didn't listen to any singer before him, just the radio in my kitchen. Since then, I listen to it for several hours a day, like a drug. That was a 23 second run at the end on one breath. The yodelling effect in the middle was a funeral dirge the Kazakhs use and it was in remembrance of a previous A studio band member who died, The man standing at the end, in the white shirt is Igor Krutoy who saw Dimash for the first time here and has since written several songs for Dimash specifically, including Stranger, Ave Maria, Ogni Pietra and Passionne. All masterpieces.

Igor Krutoy is founder member and chairman of New Wave music festival held from 2001 annually. He watched Dimash performances in Chinese show The Singer and was impressed, met with Dimash and his father in Italy for some other event and invited him in this festival for the first time as guest performer in 2018 and since then Dimash is invited there as guest artist . This year he was Jury member too and performed 5 solo songs and two group songs with other jury members and famous artists

Different cultures in different countries have different ways of expressing respect to the artist... We just learn to respect that. Standing ovations seem to be popular in Americas mostly. In Eastern and Central Europe, some Asian countries (INCLUDING KAZAKHSTAN - DIMASH'S HOMELAND), Oceania, we watch and listen concert (or song) until the end in silence, respecting the artist, because we want to hear even the slightest whisper of him... Then we applaud and give him flowers and cute gifts (Dimash likes it very much too), and then we can go crazy or not - depending on the situation... By the way, Dimash's performances usually have another feature: they seem to hypnotize viewers, they sometimes lose their speech for a while... The audience in his live concert sometimes does not even remember some parts of it, just feels euphoria for a long time after the concert.

I can try to explain why more people weren't standing and going crazy for his performance. In Russia, it was frowned upon many years ago to express too much excitement and emotion. Leaders would consider it as an uprising or rebelling. It still seems to carry over even today.

I was this summer in August in Sochi Russia at this New Wave 2021 competition, I sat in the front row, saw Dimash's new performance, gave him flowers, emotions cannot be conveyed in the hall, when you see and hear this genius, your heart jumps out of your chest, he incredible! Dimash is a phenomenon from Kazakhstan. He started singing lessons at 5 years old and was found to have perfect pitch. He is University educated with degrees in classical and opera, another in contemporary music, pop, and jazz, was a major in Vogel technique. He also completed a Broadway musical master class. On June 18th, 2020 he completed his masters specializing in composition and received his master's with honors having achieved the maximum score of 100%. He has since started his Ph.D.

Not competing here at This was New Wave 2018, he was 24 and a guest vocalist for Kazakh band 'A Studio' the band onstage with him. The keyboard player Baigali Serkebayev composed the song. It was their 20th Anniversary and they had sadly lost their lead singer in 2015. This was his first time at New Wave and he has been a guest here every year its been on wowing the Russian audience, and thankfully us too. I love this song, its so impressive, especially with the last crazy run and riffs for 23 seconds with no breathing 🌟

One of his most beautiful songs with Igor is Love Of Tired Swans as well as Love Is Like A Dream. Love of Tired Swans at the Kremlin. It is so beautiful I once made staff at a lab play it on repeat while I had a 20 minute MRI. After the test two nurses came out, not to ask if I was ok but to ask about Dimash afterward admitting they had looked him up when he started to sing and read about him.
