Hi from France ! yes this movie is full of symbols, it's the story of 3 kids Dimash (who was drawning at the beginning and at the end) Piper (the one who saved him and the leader that will be killed by him at the end) and the girl (his future wife giving birth). They are thorned by a war in witch Dimash's small daughter get killed by the invaders soldiers from Piper's army. For the symbolic aspect, Dimash is showing the different cultures and religions (catholisism, islam, bouddhism, hindi, and many references to History of humanity throu religions) represented by all the men walking to find the light no matter race or religion they are from. The baby is Dim ash's son becoming the sheperd of those who are choosing live . It's an anthem to peace and tolerance between human beings. A master^piece of intelligence and hope, they are many others symbols all along but it would be too long to explain alls. It's a video you have to see several times to understand everything. Some help from a youtuber: THE STORY OF ONE SKY This is subtitled “Requiem”, but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the music teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14 at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together”, signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke (and received a medal from Pope Francis for his contributions to the World of Peace) with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I’ll only touch on some of what struck me. 1 The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial, while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. In the Music Video, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, the boy, gives his friend the pendant, the camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl. Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through, as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers. 2 Contemporary music is also present: with the phrase “We have passed the moment of Imagine”, Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song “Imagine” by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way. 3 The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. 4 The Piper’s Call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let’s remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against? 5 The burning sign “Waldenburg” is a reference to the end of WWII, when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht to end the war in April of 1945. As a native Eastern European, I have seen the aftermath of the war as I was born just a few years later, when much of Europe was still in turmoil. Waldenburg, which is only 175 miles from Berlin, was completely destroyed. Many of the dead were women and children, because all men ages 15 through 75 were mobilized. So, the good guys defeated evil, but at what price? 6 The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and life are both sacraments and are interwoven. Dimash’s vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that struck the pilgrims sharply. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the “sacred womb” of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war by choosing life. Dimash’s scream “We’re choosing life” is that of giving life: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as examplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby. The blowing of the shofar signals God’s mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right. Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash’s character becomes a guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Dimash is showing us how. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology, wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” This is what Dimash has done with this work: he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time.

When we go to the truth, we go through certain lessons and our way to God is difficult, but only possible if we come together. *This clip is not about war, it’s about peace. War here is a means of expressing the contrast of what happens when we lose love for one another. The turn to right may look like a turn to right when you are acting in self-defense, but in the end all sides suffer. If we don`t make the turn from wrong to right early, if we let ourselves be lead wrong for too long, if we agree with the wrong for too long, we end up choosing life when we are already under water, as a last cry before drowning. The path we never stay on long enough, is the one of effort to communicate, tolerate, choose peace, over and over again. We prefer to live in "Imagine" (John Lennon), while in reality we make all the wrong choices. Dimash says that we have passed the moment of "Imagine", and we should focus on our actual deeds, before it is way too late. ------------------- Translation for the growl words he says while his character hugs his daughter that was killed : it`s in kazakh, and the words I believe are : "Adam kerve omir şol" - "The life of Man (Adam) is like this" (behold the life of Man ; such is Man`s life ; full of pain ; this is what man is capable of, making his life full of pain, with no winners and losers ; everybody loses when love is gone and we turn to war) ------------------ Dimash actually performed the song "The Story of One Sky" for the very very first time at the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which was held in Astana (Nur-Sultan) in mid-September. One of the listeners was Pope Francis, who later met with Dimash and presented him with a commemorative medal.

This is a multi-layered piece which needs re-watching a number of times to understand more deeply. I also gathered info from various reactors who each had a different view and input (including you). There’s a lot of allusions, symbols, etc in here. The metal object which becomes a symbol is a mariner’s compass, which shows you the way of you place the North Star in the little hole. The taller boy in the beginning had kindness and humanity yet eventually takes the compass and removes the hole from it, thus losing his way and becoming inhuman. He us more than a general. As he said, he is a ruler and gets the masses to follow him with blatant lies. The smaller boy seems to have followed the crowd at first until a glance at a mother and child reminded him of his own wife and daughter. He then “took a turn to the right”, ran home, only to find his daughter (and maybe his wife) dead. The horror of the situation makes him realize someone has to stop the madness (“Here is last chance”). He chooses to end violence with violence, only to end himself a victim of violence. In between, we see glimpses of the seekers of truth throughout history, struggling upward toward the light, braving the storms of life. We can recognize the Muslims (the Quran reader, the pilgrim in Hajj garb), the Christians (the cross), the Jews (that shofar, thank you, and tallit- the scarf), the Buddhists (I assume), or lamas. As he dies, the Dimash character joins the ranks of those seekers of truth. I’m not sure, as other commentators believe, that Dimash married the girl. She seems to have joined some underground religious sect, and her newborn son becomes the new hope for humanity.

3 years in the making and supposedly the most expensive music video ever produced. Dimash not only composed it but he also wrote the script for it. Not the lyrics but the script. The three adult main characters are The three children from the beach. They each have the amulet, if you want to call it that, that Dimash's character gave to them. The evil leader was the boy who saved Dimash from drowning, The woman now Dimash character's wife was the girl. It's a little girl that was killed the characters daughter and the newborn the characters offspring as well. Requiem is a Catholic mass to honor the souls of the dead. After dying you see Dimash leading the souls of the dead from different religions ethnicities races and walks of life home to the light. All the clues are there and there's a clear through line in the story. This isn't about one war or any particular country this is a message to the world at large past and present that has been led to the brink by despots and evildoers.

The throat singing in Dimashs world is used in lamentation of the dead as done in sinful. You can see how it was appropriate in one sky. Every time we get a new song vocal coaches included Dimash tops whatever he’s done before. There were so many layer sound upon sound and Dimashs voice being so versatile he sounded the deep base sounds up to the soprano and the scream belting. That he used all to tell the story. I know many times Dimash makes himself vulnerable, sacrificing himself for his audience. This was not an easy thing for an actor to do. Many question that Dimash is an actor. His school at the university was detracted to the arts. He had a master class in Broadway stage production. He has acted in tv series inn China Russia and Kazakhstan. Dimash went deep this time.
