It's funny, when I was in high school I was so into shred and instrumentals like Becker and Gilbert (who I still love for his honesty and no fucks given attitude in the community) but after all this time I return back to dimebag. I felt like a lot of shredders were beautiful on a technical level but lacked something that I saw in dimebag. It's like energy, or personality, power, or real character . Dimebag didn't do technique for the sake of technique like most of the guys did in the shred scene. It's like dimebag just said "fuck u and have a drink and let's go kick a trash can" and he lets his hands say all that, whereas other guys just said "yeah look at my scales here and this really cool saharn sounding sweep I worked on for this album". Dimebag may have not said much more than that in his playing, but it had so much soul and punch to his playing. I prefer him over any of his more technically impressive peers because I feel and know when it's dimebags playing. He makes it known who he is and what his personality is like on stage, whereas others just care about sounding technically impressive.

+ThyChrysanthemum He stayed away from sweep picking and and tapping, which are techniques that guitar nerds love but put you in cheese-land very easily. Dime's vibrato and squeal stuff is what set him apart from the pack
@Lotus-Son8 жыл бұрын
Adam Youdell hahaha, "guitar nerds." I just think people get so wrapped up in technique that they forget the whole point was to create a song. Like songs just become a showpiece or platform to flex their technical muscles. But Dimebag's a guy whose got the skills to be a pure shredder, but opts to actually make or at least play around the song, only to compliment it and not just covering it up with useless technique.
@texasturner23137 жыл бұрын
ThyChrysanthemum Dime could shred, be technical, bluesy.....he could do it all. He could play anything from Randy Rhodes to Van Halen to Hendrix. Dime, like every great guitarist, created his own signature sound and playing style that's like no other. He was one of a kind. He once did a live radio show in Dallas around '89 or '90 where people called in with requests. People called in and asked he could play Steve Vai, Randy Rhodes, Yngwie Malmsteen, Hendrix and various songs and Dime played them all. He could duplicate any other shredders out there.

DCee I completely understand where you are coming from, and I see what you mean. I just enjoy the groove Dime injected, which has been imitated ever sense by countless bands, just as many other have imitated Eddie (although not quite to the same extent, its hard to match Eddies influence). His soloing was also very influential and overall great.

Can you fucking believe Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists has Dime at 92. They even have a couple girls ahead of him! They put a bunch of lame guitarists ahead of him even someone from the band Police??? What in the fuck. To hell with their lists, based on talent and ability I know he's right there with Jimi, Clapton, and Van Halen. This shits why no one cares about Rolling Stones magazine anymore. This was all a popularity contest and plenty of good singer/songwriters/guitarists snuck in above guitarists. Dimes music doesn't appeal to all fans of rock and roll, but anyone that likes similar genres knows this music will never be seen again. Ever

I usually can't listen to shredders for more than 2 minutes, but Dime was just flat out fucking amazing. Most shredders are missing the key ingredient to music; soul. Dime was one of those extremely rare guys who could shred your face off, but still pour rivers of emotion into his playing.
