TV journalist here! It's because you want to have audio of the person being interviewed, not you. Also because say there are 30 journos there - let's say 10 TV, 10 radio, 10 print/online for simplicity's sake. You would have to have each carrying a mic which can be fed into the main PA feed, and they would have to be turned up constantly because of interjections/supplementary questions etc. This would ruin the audio feed. Don’t be so narrow minded. This happens across all codes, not just AFL. Also, TV viewership a Copyrights plays numerous factors.
