Shagrath and Agnete Kjølsrud are an insanely dynamic duo! I was blown away by Shagrath's deep, textured growls and narration, and blasted to bits by Agnete's soaring belts and shrieking fry screams. Dimmu Borgir is a band I slept on WAY too long!

Go check out their Ozzfest 04 set! You don't get that same Gaahl like stage presence from him, but I think you would appreciate it. Also on the topic of Gaahl, his Wacken 2008 set with God Seed is literally one of the greatest things I have witnessed. He totally has that oppressive, violent, and primal scream going on the entire time.

This might sound weird, but bear with me. When I first tried a bloody mary; I hated it. It didn’t make sense to me. But, at one point, I worked as a bartender and started making bloody Mary’s from scratch. Suddenly; my brain understood what I was tasting. From that moment; I couldn’t get enough. On a similar note - there was a time when I didn’t understand death metal. This channel has changed that. And, well… I just can’t get enough.

Shagrath's vocals were best during their 1997 album "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant". He had demonic shrieks back then, as heard in songs like "Relinquishment of Spirit and Flesh". Also, you totally missed the opportunity to analyze the vocals of ex-bassist ICS Vortex. His majestic cleans are out of this world on songs like Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. That being said, Dimmu Borgir will always remain my favourite band, due to their 2001 album "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia", which is perfect in my opinion. Thanks for picking them for a video regardless!

@@GallifreyeanTrailers Agreed! But also lately I've realized "Spiritual Black Dimensions" is highly underrated and overlooked. It has some gems. Vortex is there, the atmosphere is great with synths, organs, piano, and the drums and guitars go crazy. I feel "The Insight and the Catharsis" is one of their best songs. Very recently I re-listened to "In Sorte Diaboli" again and was surprised it was better than I remembered. So for me, Puritanical is at the top, but barely below it I have Enthrone, Spiritual, and Death Cult all tied. I'm thinking of making a Dimmu Borgir album tier list video, haha.

Absolutly. The Vocals of ICS Vortex made me fall in love with Dimmu Borgir and imho they have not found a good way to perform those "older" songs without him. So even if the Video and Sound Quality of older performances are not super awesome. Those Vocals make them a better version of the song. Actually the Kings of the Carnival Creation official live Video has a good sound quality.

I would absolutely LOVE to see Dimmu Borgir live with an orchestra and a choir some day! 🖤 This is one of my favourite songs by them and I loved your reaction to and analysis on it! I think the thing I like most about your videos is that you are so incredibly open-minded, this showed in this video especially. Really cool! 🙌 I don't really listen to Death Metal or Core, it's just a bit much for me most of the time and to be honest Dimmu Borgir is the only Black Metal band I listen to because of the symphonic aspect. I love Symphonic Metal more than anything and Nightwish is my favourite band on earth. I found your channel through your reaction to Lord of the Lost (who I absolutely adore as well) and then watched your videos on Nightwish after that. I sing too and I find it fascinating to learn so much about growling and screaming from you, even though it is not what I do. I always wondered how people can do this stuff without distroying their voice, so I find it incredible to watch you do all these different things with your voice throughout the videos when you explain what these artists are doing exactly. I found your channel only two days ago, so I have a whole lot of binge-watching ahead of me! 😃 Keep up the amazing work!! 🖤 Much love from Germany 🤘🤗

I think Shagrath has a technique for each syllable. Like false chorus for "oh"s or fries for "eh"s. He build his own sound over the years. Now if you go back to the earlier stuff when it was more screaming vocals you can hear the technique is very different, much more traditional. Try listening to a song like Spellbound and you'll hear what I mean.

I'm so stoked to see you reacting to this!! This song is incredible and this band is amazing. Agnete and Shagrath are both such ICONS

You are a real talented man! The way you broke down shagrath and his vocal composition, being that of a throat singer/Opramatic understanding. And this man mimics shagrath ever so well upon his first analysis. This is a truly talented man and musician. Accomplished I imagined in some way. But nevertheless truly understanding an artist when he hears truth within talent! Thank you our good sir! Please post more!

It means “Dark Fortress” I think. Dimmu Borgir is a volcanic formation in Northern Iceland, the name fits it

Fail. I'm into volcanology and I didn't know this 😂 At the same time I'm wondering what is the magnet in volcanoes related to metal world. Also Amon Amarth has got their from a (fictional) volcano 🤔

Now please do Septicflesh seeing as you enjoyed these guys so much. I really want to understand Seth Antoniou's style of death metal vocals. I highly recommend songs like Martyr or The Vampire From Nazareth to start.

Agnete's Band Djerv is well worth listening to, especially if you fancy more of her screams. Its sort of "Black n Roll" i guess?!?, really unique style... Anyway awesome reaction i enjoyed that.

🖤 Thank you so much for this reaction video! 🖤 I would love to hear more from you reacting to Dimmu Borgir. 🖤 In 1997 I started listening to Dimmu Borgir and I went to a lot of concerts and festivals in Germany to listen to their live performances. It was always a great pleasure to listen to them. 🖤

I definitively have a throat singing base to my metal vocals and find imitating Shagrath a lot easier than nailing a proper fry/false chord scream. I'm still learning a lot but what you commented about in this video made a lot of sense to me.

Please more Dimmu, Shagrath has such a unique voice he uses. Also, I really would love to see Helmuth from Belphegor. ESPECIALLY live his lower vocals have this awesome overtone to them.

Yes, absolutely more IA. He’s done “Unholy Gravebirth,” and I’ve seen people request “Blasphemian,” but I’d really like to see something off of The Battle of Yaldabaoth. Dickie’s vocals on that album are phenomenal (even better than EGG, IMO).

I ve been listening to dimmu borgir for decades.. i first heard them at 1997-8 when Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (1997) was released.. i was then listening to atmospheric death metal mostly like theater of tragedy, tristania, and many more.. when a friend brought to me the album of dimmu borgir to hear.. i became a fan the very same day.. and also had the chance to hear them live after Spiritual Black Dimensions (1999) album was released.. (maybe their two best albums) Nowadays they are still my favourite band ❤❤ .. progenies and gateways are both masterpieces ( my two favourite songs) and only a genius musician mind or team like them could give us so many unique songs.. its hard for a band to make a masterpiece.. imagine how extremely rare it is for a band to exist over 30 years, having created many masterpieces as far and still creating masterpiece songs.. as for shagrath i m in love with him and his unique voice and the fact that after so many years you hear the same fucking awesome voice.. respect to all members of the band as well as the choir and orchestra.. i have listened to these lives over 200 times.. its never enough.. Hope i ll watch them live with orchestra next time they toor all together.. wherever it is... I am going!!! I recommend you watch Mourning palace Spellbound Kings of the carnival creation A succubus in rapture Puritania Sympozium And more.. Hope to see you react to d.b again. I reallyyyyyy enjoyed your reaction!!! And i agree.. shagrath's voice needs more study.. he is one kind by himself!!!! Please do more d.b.❤ ***Edit.. 1. Galder i loveeee your crazy awesome stage performance ❤❤❤ 2. Progenies and gateways are the two best songs in the history of music.. in my opinion.. 3. Dimmu you are "KAULA" as we say in Greece!!!
