It's impossible to replace Vortex's vocals, which I wouldn't expect to happen... but if Dimmu had to get a singer to do "clean" vocals, I highly hope they consider bringing Agnette on for a full album at the least. Also, there are times during this performance and the Wacken version, where she looks downright possessed, which definetly fits the visual aspect of Dimmu extremely well. I understand we will never get Vortex back... but if we are moving on from him, Agnette would do the job extremely well.

Fun fact: As the orchestra is the Broadcasting Orchestra this show was shown in its entirety on NRK, Norway's answer to the BBC. So yes, a full Black Metal concert was shown on TV in Norway. I think it was in a 10pm or thereabouts timeslot as well. I was never the biggest fan of Dimmu Borgir, though they have a lot of good stuff. The album this song is from though just perfectly nails that symphonic black metal blend that Dimmu has been going for since the beginning.

Mourning Palace was one of two songs on a sampler CD that came with a magazine a friend brought over that made me learn how to make mp3s back in the day. Back in the mid 90s when you had to record it live to a WAV (before you could read audio tracks as data) and then wait for almost an hour to encode it to an mp3 because computers were slow and the only encoder available was the reference encoder from Fraunhofer which was not optimized for speed. The other song was Lake of Tears - Devil's Diner.. Also amazing song.

The mixing on this DVD is absolutely perfect! I've seen (or heard) it so often that when bands perform with an orchestra only the brass and percussion sections are really audible and strings, wind etc. are just drowned out. Here it's absolutely wonderful and one is even able to distinguish what the individual orchestral sections are doing. Huge thanks to the audio staff from every orchestral musician who has played with a band before!

There are some really poor quality and disgraceful Black Metal bands out there, but Dimmu Borgir raises the genre to whole new level. I can only imagine how challenging and expensive it is to set up everything so carrying around a large background orchestra from one live performance to another would be pain in the ass. Such a performance requires an insanely large stage as well. I remember Dimmy from my childhood, but the newer production is not so familiar. I have to get to know their newer production more widely now that my interest awoke.

I've always wanted to hear someone do Enya's Orinoco flow in the style of Dimmu's Mourning Palace, and vice-versa. There are some similar sounding electronic sounds between the two.

It's not like you want to hear it; it's there. Shagrath's daughter is called Enya too. It's amazing lol

What blows me away is that this concert was broadcast live on Norwegian TV. Not sure if it was on one of its main channels, as even in Germany when you get festival programmes (like Wacken or Rock am Ring), these are broadcast on niche channels or internet only.
