@@JHawkeye_ the way it was handled was really unfair. 1st of course from China side since they banned Dings travels, but also FIDE stupid laws by just allowing this kind of 'tournament'. Look at the fact that other players had to fight with each other for this spot, where China just created competition between their people. Ding possibly is better then the rest, but still

@@wojciechszadurski4177 I'm sure every country's chess federation would've done the same thing if it happened to them plus it isn't even 'China' who's creating the competition it's their chess federation, not the same thing. Also, not everybody had to fight with each other for the spot, Teimour got in because he was nominated by Fide and Nepo got in because he was the challenger last time.

During the last Candidates Cycle, on a Chess24 broadcast Magnus literally said about the WC match that against Fabi it's about equal, against Ding Magnus won't be the favorite but he thought Ding wouldn't probably make it (which indeed happened), whereas against everybody else Magnus is the favorite. Magnus holds Ding at a very high regard, and I believe a world championship between the two would be phenomenal!

In reality Magnus would definitely be the favourite, no matter the opponent. He's number one, has been for a long time and is a full 60 rating points ahead of his closest rival. Not to mention his form has been excellent recently.

I feel really happy for Ding. I still don't know how to feel about Sergey seeing as he had no control over the war (although he does have control over his statements). Ding is a madman though, it's finally time for him to show off his prowess to the world. Nice recap again Levy! :)

It sucks cause I was gonna root for the guy but oh well, I'm gonna root for the other one.

Nope. Even the rating system is different for people at the 2500 level compared to the ELO range you cite.

@@yzfool6639 A quick calculation using FIDE's methods show a 2k vs 1750 at 81% chance to win and 16% chance to draw. 2800 vs 2550 shows an 81% chance to win and a 27% chance to draw. A minor difference... only due to the higher level of play from both players.
