I live in BC Canada.. built a goat island skiff last year and learned to sail it over the summer. This year I look forward to more sailing and to start cruising/camping it. It's such a treat to watch your channel especially with the seasonal differences between the two places. Right now all the lakes here are frozen solid enough for a car to drive on and people are fishing through holes in the ice and skating. The temp rarely gets above 0 C. It provides a real lift to see you having fun and enjoying that park while we are locked into some short cold days. Soon our seasons will change and it'll be our turn to catch some wind in the cloth, until then you help to keep the flame alive! Really enjoy your channel, thanks for posting.

My pleasure thanks for watching. I have seen many cabin building and outdoor videos on Canada, it's a beautiful country. My wife doesn't like the high humidity we get in Sydney in summer and the cold appeals to her but maybe not that cold!!! Do you get bears??? and Mozzies in summer. I have always loved the lakes surrounded by pine forests. Please post some videos of your camping adventures in the skiff, cheers Paul

@@SailingKateLouise Everyone outside Canada asks about bears but they never worry about the real dangers...hypothermia! I love all the great dinghy channels like Roger Barnes and the Video Rambler...and yourself. I think I might make a few videos more than any other reason to contribute to the community of builders and sailors of small boats. This sort of inspiration is what propelled me to actually pull the trigger. The project was never in danger of failing from not being able to finish the project or figure out how to sail...the greatest danger was at the inception when I wasn't sure it was doable. The videos and posts I came across made me confident to try. The video that really threw me over the edge was this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaGUnqeVoqx5nZo Thanks again for your great posts.

What a lovely day you had there. Lake sailing is so awesome, new to me next year (2024). I have dealt with barnacles for a for 70 some years now. I should have my Atkin Sharpshooter restored "Take Me Away" back in the water in a high mountain lake close by, Baker Lake in Washington State. San Juan Islands too. Thanks so much for your wonderful demeanor and boat to match. Fair winds, Chris

Hi Paul, Good to catch up with you again, and to meet Steve. You didn`t miss much by heading home on Wednesday, Thursday started out with rain and wind shift into the beach at Johnsons, so began bumping on the bottom at 5.30 - 6.00 am. Up and had breakfast at 6.30 and packed up and motored back to Violet hill in the rain, then pulled out boat and packed everything up, also in the rain. So home early to dry out selves and gear. Still a fun few days though !

@SailingKateLouise2 жыл бұрын

Sorry if this has been asked mate, but for those not “in the know” talking to other sailers and builders out in the water. Where would you go to buy a kit in NSW? I’m hoping to find something on the simplistic end as I’ll need to build while working full time. Safe enough for open ocean day trips, camping up river ect Any advice for the kit shopping journey?
@SailingKateLouise2 жыл бұрын
Well Scruffie marine sell my boat Stornaway 18 ,Scruffie 16 and Shimmys as kits and the company hopefully will go back into production soon. Otherwise you can get plans but not kits from Iain Oughtred, John Welsford, or keep looking on gumtree for boats that need some loving and repairs. Kits are easier though as parts can come pre-epoxied and primed in some cases. Let me know if you can one and you can join us, Cheers Paul
