The “fjell” - the mountain - is an integral part of Norwegian culture. Also when it comes to food. Halaigh meets up with Randi Skaug who has scaled Mount Everest and the world’s highest peaks, and together they hike up Preikestolen, near Stavanger. Before they encounter terrifying weather that sees them clinging to the edge of the mountain, they enjoy a lunch of traditional “fjell food”, including boiled beets and more reindeer heart. The snowy landscape continues in Trondheim, where Halaigh attends the world cup ski jump competition and feasts on waffles - alongside ski jump superstars and the future king of Norway. Back in Stavanger, Halaigh gets to indulge in one of his food passions, sardines, when a local expert treats him to racks and racks of the little golden jewels.

If VICE is smart they will use this guy more for more exploring of Europe. I can see a nice small internet starter series with each season is him exploring food cultures in a specific area around Europe. Maybe even have him start buy working in kitchens for a bit. The possibilities are endless. Also give me a job on the show. Thanks.

What? I don't know where you're from in Norway. But komle(kompe, rapseball. Kjære barn har mange navn) is eaten all the time here, except with salted lamb, not pork. Scallops are constant during the spring/summer when we go fishing. Dried hearts are also common with some beer after we go hunting. Smoked fish, får i kål, and freshly caught and smoked or ovenfried sardines, mmmm so good during the season. Although you're probably just being sarcastic. Seeing as Grandiosa is our uncrowned national dish. But I'd say all of these foods are pretty common outside of Oslo.

The biggest misconception people have when traveling to Norway to go on hikes or mountain climbing is that it's easy. Most Norwegians have all the basic skills in trecking as in making fire and pits, packing equipment, food and shelter. And last but not least, being fit enough to do the hike. The most scenic places in Norway are not easily exsessable so just bare that in mind before setting out on a more demanding trip.

Sorry for necroing this from slo long ago but. There is different versions of brown cheese from goat or from cow. And it's not straight cheese even tho it is called that. It is made out of caramelized whey. Wich is a byproduct of making cheese.

Yeah. The Munchies host is great. Really warm good feels from him. Grew up in Norway and it was definitely not a culinary destination at that time. It's odd that they processed everything into shrimp paste and fiskebollen. I remember buying shrimp right off the docks from the fishermen. Delicious Nordic sweet shrimp. Anyway, that Munchies host is great.

Malte Jedstrom He’s mostly visiting western and northern places, these were very isolated and therefore the food, languge and traditions varies greatly, the closer you get to Sweden the more similarities appear though, half of Norways population lives within 100km of the border :) This is why Norway got two official written languages, and many easteners find Swedish easier to understand than some Norwegian dialects.
