Yup, it's a pity we didn't get to play more with the tank, blasting allosaurus like you would raptors with the anti tank rifle. A well executed 50mm grenade luncher would have made sense for Dylan too: same damage as the rocket, quicker and more affordable ammo. Maybe splash damage too.

More a Remaster than a remake. It would have been ideal for PSP (272p), Gamecube (480i) or Xbox (480p). Maybe even for Wii as aiming with motion controls would have really made a difference. Now might be a little too late, don't you think? Mobile, New 3DS or even Vita (540p) could cut it though.

@@yongkysiaw6597 I feel like we might be a bit past the ideal time for a remaster. In general, the sweet spot for a remaster is the next generation: For example, RE1 (5th gen) to Re1 remaster (Dreamcast, 6th gen), Or TLOU remastered from ps3 to ps4. Or 2 generations for faithful remakes, like Shadow of the Colossus from PS2 to PS4. Remember the Survival horror boom after 28 days later? Well, during the ps3/360 era was the ideal time for a faithful remake of Dino crisis 1&2. I don't know about now.

@@SalveMonesvol what would worry me is that they would try to do to Regina what they did to Jill in REmake 3. Shes a great, fun character, she doesnt need to be all "tough" and "macho" like Jill in WtRC or RE3 PS4.
@SalveMonesvol
@SalveMonesvol 2 жыл бұрын
@@GoldenWolf115 In that case, a remaster would be best. Most videogame haters don't realize that we've had cool female characters for decades. That being said, I insist that it is too late for an HD remaster. Tha latest that could have been done in the game's 10 year anniversary during the ps3 era. For a remake like the one Demon's Souls got, maybe even the 20th anniversary would have worked, with a strong focus on the PS4 version. Now, it would get the FF7 treatment.

This is easily one of my favorite games of all time, for many of the reasons you described. And I think the CG cutscenes hold up pretty well for a PS1 game. Words aren't enough to describe how much I love this game. Here's hoping Capcom actually bites on the whole Remaster thing.

PE2 came before Dino Crisis 2 and it was the first Survival Horror Game where Enemies dropped Items (if you dont count special drops from Nemesis in RE3) and a currency which allowed you to buy and Upgrade your Equipment at a Shop. So of course you cant say RE4 copied this 1:1 from PE2, but at least it wasnt the first Survival Horror Game who uses this kind of Gameplay.

DC1 and DC2 are great bedfellows. They complement each other in that the first you are against something you never witness before and to find a work around to survive while the second is you are now prepared and have knowledge with handling it more but with more challenges to keep on your toes. Basically, you went from grunt to seasoned veteran over the years between the two games. Makes since lorewise in Reginas case.

I have so much nostalgia to DC2 that I can't really be too honest about it, it's one of my fav ps1 games, that intro music or the title screen alone always gives me goosebumps. I would say tho', this is more of an RE4 than 6, at least in a nutshell, like, a survival horror game gets a more action-oriented sequel that has ''some'' themes that can be scary but it's more cheese action time than anything else and also should not have goddamn worked but somehow it did.

Sometimes hardest thing to get right is the gameplay, there were so many great ideas burried under boring and not-fun mechanics. While DC2 is fun and it knows it. There was another Dinosaur game for the original X-Box called, "Dinosaur Hunting", which was only ever released in Japan. The game was set to be released in the US, and only needed to have the English language implemented and was otherwise finished, but Microsoft who was funding the game pulled the plug at the last minute. From what I understand, the game was really fun, but Microsoft didn't have much faith in the game. There are still videos of it on youtube.

I never played the first Dino Crisis and was generally not a fan of survival horror games when I was a kid. But once my friend introduced me to Dino Crisis 2 and I started getting into it after the initial hesitation, I really enjoyed it. It's the only game I played so far in the series, but I have the fondest of memories of it when I remember how the game just worked for you once you memorized the patterns and wrapped your head around the mechanics. I would love to revisit this classic gem sometime in the future, having bought the PSN version of it.

This is the first videogame I ever played and still one of my favourites. There was an epic TV advert that was literally just a raptor pouncing some guy then slam cutting to the PlayStation logo, the moment I saw that, 10 year old me knew what I wanted for Christmas. Unfortunately never been able to find that advert online, but yeah. Quite an impression. Sony or Capcom knew what they were doing. I'm glad this was my intro to games, because it's actually quite a complex one. From buying upgrades using "Extinction Points" to having new game+ features and multiple characters with their own items and weapon sets, there's a lot to it. And even though it kinda breezes by (I used to finish it in an afternoon whenever I was staying home with tonsilitis as a kid) every chapter has something awesome about it. The detailed world and dinosaurs are still quite impressive, even if you have to squint a bit for the pixels these days. Great review, looking forward to the next ones!

Sequel development research has been taken over by a money hungry Capcom, and massive research has began in their offices somewhere in Japan. However, in their pursuit of inmediate results, they have failed to take the necessary precautions, and once again, a crappy game with dinosaurs in space has ocurred. This time, the entire Regina plotline, sequels and franchise have dissapeared. In their place now lies a bunch of DLCs, instead of proper games full of extra content from another time"

I LOVED Dino Crisis 2 much more so than part 1. Dino Crisis 1 was a very solid game I thought, I thoroughly enjoyed it but Dino Crisis 2....HOW OTHER BEAST. I had so much fun playing that game, one of the most underrated games of the PS1 era, in my opinion. VERY underrated. I would LOVE to see a remake. It would be an absolute beast of a game.

I loved the first game, but this was one of my most disappointing sequels of all time. I still clearly remember bringing it home from renting it at Blockbuster and wondering what the hell happened. Just couldn't get into the action vibe, but I'm glad so many people seem to have gotten so much enjoyment from it.

Never played either game but watched walkthroughs/game movies. I love the backgrounds in DC2 when you can see a dino off in the distance. (Like the clips you showed of the triceratops back in the field or the rex(?) below you on the bridge.)
@Dielawn69

The prerendered background design was about as good as it gets. And like you said they did an amazing job by giving the world life by having actual scenes play out in the background. That were just dinosaurs doing there own thing and not giving a fuck what the player character was up to.

I played DC2 at my uncles house for the first time when I was 10 or 11. At that age I was absolutely obsessed with Jurassic Park and watched the movie on VHS 3 or more times a week. When I saw the beginning cutscene with the camp and T-rex....I'm pretty sure I shit my pants. Great game. I still revisit it every now and then. Also, no sure what you're doing as far as video capture goes but the game looks especially good in this video. I'm gonna have to start up a new game later this week. Great stuff!

I'm more partial to Dino Crisis 1 solely for the fact that I only owned and played the first game. I remember when I was a kid that dino crisis 2 came out, but for some reason I just never got around to purchase it or get into it. This one looked very cool and more run and gun which I do enjoy. Awesome review man, I always enjoy watching and listening to your retrospectives Jared.

I like the environment of dc2 more than dc1. The advantageous of the pre render background are the beauty of the environment For example, when you playing a game you feel more anesthetic like you're watch the photo gallery, And the weirdest thing that you're remember the area in the game more than the tps or fps game. Even though i don't mind with camera the game dev will be use for their game.

Dino Crisis 2 is a concentrate of a pure enjoyment From a graphic point of view nothing to say, it is one of the most beautiful game of the console or in any case as you said the one who knew how to give the best with the limitations of the machine. The pre-rendered scenery has a crazy charm and more broadly the aesthetics of the game is excellent. Capcom has managed to make a very good arcade action game with tank controls with just enough element to give more or less the illusion of being in a survival. It was for me the Jurassic Park game that we never had.

Why is it 2019 and this is still the best Dinosaur video game out there? I was really hoping the Far Cry team was making a dinosaur game after Primal came out, but no, it was Far Cry 5. Bummer. I'm hoping Capcom brings this back or the Far Cry team makes a proper dinosaur game. Fingers crossed. It's surprising to me that AAA developers have ignored dinosaurs for so long. I think a full-on time travel game to the Cretaceous period would be awesome.

The intro, the overworld map and the helicopter cutscene makes Edward City seem comparable in size to Raccoon City - it's such a shame we never got to explore it beyond one drug store and a highway, whether in this game or a Last Escape style spinoff about other survivors who were trapped there after their town was shunted into dinosaur hell

I remember when I bought this game, PC version actually, long time ago, sadly missing the first one. First I thought "well that's look like a Resident Evil with dinosaurs", but when I played it, I liked it much more. At the time I liked dynamic shooters more then any other genre, so to see this kind of game was interesting expirience. So interesting in fact, that I replayed it for 2 weeks straight :D Yeah, the story was kinda... there, but it was still really, really fun game. I hope Capcom will revive this series with remakes. I mean T-Rex on RE Engine, who the hell don't want to see THAT??? Oh by the way if I remember correctly, that stupid thing with afterimage in cutscenes was in PC version too and it was pissing off even then.
