Dino is fantastic. He was great in Quicksilver Messager Service. His albums I really love Children Of The Sun. It blew my mind when I heard first on KMPX in San Francisco. He was a good song writer also.I lived my first 20 years in the Bay Area. I saw him with Quicksilver at a concert. When I was a teenager, I saw a lot of concerts. I was blessed to be a teenager and live in the Bay Area. It was the perfect place to be in the world at the time. Now San Francisco is taken over by the homeless and the drug addicts, and is dangerous. So I am in Arizona, were you can walk the streets and it is safe. Dave in Arizona

I was Dino's friend. I was at a solo show on Haight St, maybe his last. He played "Scarecrow" twice... He changed his name from Chester Powers to Dino Valeni when he auditioned for his very first gig -- because the club owners were Italian. He told me he just survived a brain tumor operation, where he was given a 5% chance of survival; and he survived. He asked me for a 5 year commitment to play in his band. He died 5 years later.

distigres, In this (first song) lyric;"We must find our way back to the son" and his song (Get together) lyric "When the one that left us here Returns for us at last", it seems he is singing about the Lord. Was he a believer, a man of faith. Was this the case with Chet? I still today perform his song "Get together". It is timeless! Thanks

This is my first time seeing this guy play and he was quite a performer during his time. I wish more people recognized him of the great songs he's written which for some reason never got the praise it deserves. His Get Together is his most known song he wrote around 1964 which had been covered by lots of artists including The Kingston Trio We Five & The Youngbloods. I hope more people discover his music.

One of the greatest of the great. His music was electrifing in the 60's and into the 80's. I saw him in SF at the Matrix, after his album was produced. Thanks to El Cerrito Cablevision for sharing this.

Yes. Certain things rise through time. Whatever 'rise' means. Dino Valenti was a distinctive voice. Down the Road Apiece, and then some. There are many ways to hear Dino. I suppose one could rediscover him in the context of folk, as here. On the other hand, there are a lot of visions that he brought forth, like here. Whatever it was that ghe was singing, there was a basic human presence. The kind that asks the question, "How About Me?" As if there are likely others who know what being outside an in the in-between-time. I suppose that may be one expression of immortality from one of the Ancients of Notable contribution: Dino Valenti, whose rediscovery to my ears occurred as a consequence of my longtime interest in listening to Quick Silver Messenger Service since 1968, a college sophomore who liked them hearing them on FM radio pretty early on. The word, "ecology" was new to all of us, but there was an independently guided series of groups and cadres of tribes, whose voices were largely but not completely under the radar, that's where a lot of it, as always but only sometimes where the acoustics are best. But that's enough for those situations to be looked for. Like every day. But remarkedly, As Time Allows.

"I work in your factories, I study in your schools. I fill your penitentiaries and your military too. And I feel the future trembling, as the word gets passed around. If you stand up for what you do believe, be prepared to be shot down. I smoke marijuana, but I can't get behind your wars. And most of what I do believe is against most of your laws. I'm a fugitive from injustice but I'm going to be free, cause your rules and regulations, they don't do a thing for me. WHAT YOU GONNA DO ABOUT ME?"

@@stacybrewer9272 Me too. Quick Silver Messenger Service is the greatest unheralded non-commercialized band in rock history. They were never a commercial success because they didn't want to compromise and write top 40 hits. The greatest band from the San Francisco scene of the mid-late 60's. Better than Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead.
