Sludge's transformation in the animation clip at :30 is pretty thoughtful to the character. His front feet slam to the ground when his torso transforms and transformation alone creates a signature Sludge earthquake. It's so obnoxious that it's brilliant.

Not only that, but Grimlock saw Rodimus raise to power, while Grimlock was just asked to serve Optimus with no reason other then "his the boss". This likely had left him more respectful of Hot Rod turned Rodimus because he had to earn leadership. Not only that, but Hot Rod himself was on good terms with Grimlock mostly before becoming Rodimus, Whereas again... Optimus was just there. Normally, Grimlock respects only those who both give him respect and earn it and Optimus started out wither neither in Gromlock's eyes.

i like your final theory about a group of sparks on ice that were used to animate the Dinobots--it makes sense. Alternatively, what I always assumed regarding Transformer creation, was that in order for a new robot to gain sentience, two living Transformers had to donate a tiny fraction of their own life spark. This would then combine into a new unique life spark to be placed into a lifeless robot shell to animate it and give it sentience. When it came to the Dinobots, it just required some volunteers...

As a child all the way till about 15 years old they were all I collected and they're still the best toys I've ever seen!! I was looking forward to giving them to my son but I never one. And I really did not like the fact that they didn't combine to beat devastator!!! In 88 I actually made a profile for that combiner it would have been huge like predicane!! You guys read my mind

My interpretation: The sparks of a dying strike team from cybertron were used, but not the personality components. Instead, wheeljack used brand new personality components he created either from spare parts of Teletran One, or spare parts of the ark, or even human made computer parts from earth. These spare parts being suboptimal is what made the dinobots simple minded, but their sparks being authentic is what made them alive. In a way it was kind of like robot reincarnation.

I like to imagine that Slag, Sludge, Swoop and Snarl were autobots damaged beyond repair by the Arc crash, who had to be completely rebuilt similarly to how you suggested. However, I also like to think that Grimlock was originally a decepticon. He just seems to fit the Decepticon personality typing very well.

My brother always loved grimlock, he always begged my parents to look for a tf animated grimlock which was his favorite version of grimlock ever, then my grandma got him a fall of Cybertron grimlock which made him happy.

My theory is, that Wheeljack studied how to make life before the war however since the war broke out he never got a chance to fully develop the personality components nor the sparks entirely, so he combined them into some sort of pseudo brain module, he kept them aboard the ark, and he saw the opportunity to make this brain module work with the dinobots which is why he was so excited about it. However when it didn't work his plan and the Dinobots were imprisoned he tried to figure out what went wrong when we found out that several pieces of the Brain Module were on the floor and damaged, as such he rebuilt the missing prices built in a plug in to where he could place it on top of brain module he duplicated this three times and then boom the Dinobots can think better and now have psudeo sparks, he would later repeat this process with Swoop and Snarl.

Well done! I also LOVED the Dinobots! The G1 origin is how I will always remember the Dinobots. With that said to answer your question, I don't think the G1 Dinobots have traditional sparks like the other Transformers but thanks to the genius of Wheeljack and Ratchet, they have their own kind of spark. Art King I think you might enjoy the following TF cartoons: Beast Wars (the complicated bits are when they bring up something from the G1 cartoon, which it sounds like you already know), Armada (fairly simple), and Prime (it takes its time to introduce each new character and plot point, so it's not over-complicated and easy to follow).

You know... I been wondering something for some time. According to Swoop's TFwiki page. He's the friendliest and most outgoing of the Dinobots. He's surprisingly good natured, kind, and upbeat. So... why hasn't Hasbro made him a kid appeal character by now? He'd fit in great along side Bumblebee, Cheetor, Hot Shot, Sideswipe, and Hot Rod. One fan theory that makes sense is that the cartoon dinobots were simple-minded because having their sparks programmed from scratch without Vector Sigma meant they were "born" as toddlers rather than "teenagers" like normal Autobots and would get smarter as they aged and gained experience.

The reasons why I love the Insecticons the most were their cool black, purple and yellow colors, their shady, untrustworthy personalities(Even Megatron didn’t fully trust them) and the fact that my home had roaches when I was a child in the 1980s. 😂

No, the Autobots clearly listen to Spike as if they've never heard of dinosaurs at all. So obviously as Spike explains to them what "Earth" dinosaurs are or were, Wheeljack simply models them after them and thus they never pre-existed anywhere else. Also, in the episode where they do back to Cybertron to recover cybertronium, they don't feel any ill effects like the other autobots because they are clearly NOT from Cybertron. However, there is no reason not to believe sparks (from elsewhere) weren't used to give them life, because if they don't have sparks, Wheeljack could have simply just constructed an army of them. It's the limited number of sparks that prevents this... at least in my own head. BUT great video as always RP. You do a fantastic job and I have no idea why your subs are struggling. It goes to show on youtube that the BEST channels, often have the lowest subs. People love to support the idiots not talented people. Good luck!

And it's a good thing they were. The Dinobots hated being told what to do. The only thing they respected was strength, which is why they "tolerated" Optimus Prime. They saw the other Autobots as weaklings that couldn't hold their own in battle which is why they needed them.

I always thought of the dinobots as Wheeljack's kids, but just his. Maybe that's why they're not so smart. Maybe it normally takes a mech and a femme to make a sparkling, but if it's just from one bot, then the sparkling isn't as fully developed or smart. But that's just my theory.

I Loved dinosaurs when i was growing up and I still love them today in fact my favourite movie is jurassic park and it would be no surprise that transformers would have robot dinosaurs even though they were supposed to be cars plains and objects and the dinobots quickly became my favourite characters

Robots are great. Transforming robots are even greater and transforming robots that can combine into a bigger robot, are badass freaking awesome. Funny thing about the for is, I don't think the Dinobots needed to combine. Sure it would have been fantastic, but I always remembered them as being so powerful, that as a team, there were very few Decepticons (Individuals or combiners) that could beat them. Not invincible, but the strongest over-all.

I do agree with your theory in the end and wished they did this with the IDW Comics and War for Cybertron storylines. It only makes sense that they be (even their minds) be of Cybertronian origin. Kind of like what we get with the Aerialbots. I like the idea of the Dinobots (Dynabots) being a former Black Ops Team and were all pure muscle and strength in their own way lead by Grimlock.

Very comprehensive review, RodimusPrimal. Glad to see you include the Marvel Comics version of the Dinobots, which I preferred over the cartoon version, which was really childish at times. Oh, and RIP Snarl in Transformers: The Movie. He was my favorite and I was mad they left him out!

I've had a similar theory for the creation, or recreation, of the Dinobots , myself. I like to think that Grimlocks challenging of Prime's leadership is part of his previous life as well, which when Prime sees the names Ratchet has given them, names of these supposedly long dead bots, makes Prime concerned.
