Good someone emphasized how integral the ambrette note is to this composition. Ambrettolide is a beautiful musk and apparently one of the only kinds of musk which is structurally similar to the old “nitro musks” which were outlawed in the early / mid 20th century

Awesome video! You put some serious time and effort into this, and DHI verses reform really needed that! No one else would have done it like this. Maybe some reviewers don't think this frag warented it, but the hype surrounding this one for so long in the youtube fragcom justified it. And you did this justice. How many people who became collectors, and really addicted to scent, after the reform, stare at the vintage bottle on ebay and wonder if it's really worth it. My brother has the new version and I love it, but I never pulled the trigger on it because I wanted the original perfumers creation. Thanks Marc! Believe it or not this video showed up three days late for me.

Hi mark, this was a great review. From what I can see you have a 2012 reformulation. I have had almost every year of DHI and I can tell you now that I'm mid 2013 they reformulated it again and it became almost identical to the original version which I also have. I have tested the 2013 bottle against my 2008 vintage and they are the same. I hope you get a chance to try another reformulated one other than the 2012 one you have. In 2013 They made it even closer to the original! Thanks for the review mark, still the best in the game

Very good Marc, cheers, i blasted through a 100ml vintage bottle years ago which i wish i hadn't done, i didn't know at the time it was gonna be changed, the current 150ml bottle i have now is quite weak stuff, i did the same with LIDGE and M7 and La nuit too haha.

Every separate formula of DHI has a specific code on the box (no, not the batch code), so it is very easy to check the chronological changes of reformulations in this fragrance over time. I will also review DHI on my channel, I will share with everyone the way to check the variations of each formulation.

Nice video! I have a 2016 bottle of Dior Homme Intense (batch code: 6N01) and it has fantastic performance: up to 10 hours of longevity, with the first 4 hours at least a foot projection. Three sprays, all on the neck, gets the job done for me. The color of the juice is almost identical to Dior Homme (batch code: 4Y01). Excellent fragrance, but not as good as its original.

I have a tiny 10 ml decant of the original formulation that is half empty, have never smelt the reformulated one. The Dior reformulations that I dislike the most is Dior Homme Sport where they replaced the spicy Ginger with iris and ruined the whole thing.

Brotha I bought DHI in 2022, but before I bought Narciso Rodriguez Blue Noir Parfum because I've heard it was comparable. To me, it's like comparing sleeping with identical twins. One moves just a bit different than the other. I personally enjoy one a bit more, but it won't stop me from enjoying them together. If I may suggest, get your nose on Narciso Rodriguez Blue Noir Parfum 🥂 and no, I DHI is my favorite

I just got a 2016 Jan batch. I am not an expert by any means. On my skin (1 big spray to my elbow pit), I can still smell the scent walking around indoor without putting it close to my nose 5-5.5 hours later. I can constantly smell it on me or more frequent than I should for some reason... It's a unique scent with lipstick like scent initially but transition into chocolate milk/cake like scent. The initial 2 hours or so, the smell is sort of strong, almost making me nauseated man! I would say this is probably one of my best performance scent comparable or even slightly better than Club de Nuit Intense Armaf, which scent come off and on throughout the first 4-5 hours. I also had Tres Nuit Armaf and Individuel Montblanc both of which are weaker. I have not tested it around people yet. I might do a test and spray on my friend one day. I am wondering if people can provide more data on the projection/longevity of newer batch of DHI.

At 8:00 in you claim that DHI was created by a perfumer from iff, but that is simply not true. Francois Demachy created DHI. The initial release of DHI was created using ingredients/notes sourced off-site. Later, when Dior managed to create the notes they needed to produce DHI in-house, that is when the reformulation took place.

The initial fragrance oils came from IFF, Dior wanted to own the rights to their own fragrance so they reformulated with oils they sourced and own the rights to.

This DHI just doesn't smell the same to me anymore. I don't use DHI anymore because it is a sub-par smell (to the old one) with this dry powdery smell which just feels unpleasant and discomforting.

One thing I don't understand ... Dior was supposed to go premium along with bringing in an in-house parfumier etc.. and the result was a product that was inferior to one made by some anonymous perfumer in the IFF? Ppffff! so much for "premium".

Great vid Marc..I have both and quite frankly both are excellent. Is there a difference? Yes, but as you eluded to...you would really have to be a DHI junkie to nose up the reform. Case in point Santos by Cartier. It was my signature scent back in the early 90's. I LOVED it. I got a reform bottle about a year ago and though it is similar, to me, an avid user in the 90's, I smell the differences immediately. A mere shadow of its former self.

Does anyone know why they reformulated it? Oh crap! You got all the info! Nice!! I have a 3.4oz bottle of vintage but it's almost gone. Prob gonna just give it away to someone who has never experienced it before. It's a great scent but it's not as amazing as all the hype. The reformulated version is still a great scent. Please don't be one of those people buying the vintage bottle for $600 on eBay. Trust me, it's not THAT great!

Enjoyed this video. I agree with Neon light about it having a nostalgic feel. People claim this fragrance has been reformulated multiple times since 2011.. Who knows. I really enjoyed this video... Great job. Have to take into consideration though that you can get dior fragrances even cheaper online. I got my bottle 3.4 oz for 60.

Longevity on my 2016 bottle is so bad that I'm selling it even though I think the scent is a 10/10 masterpiece. The drydown is too quick and turns into nothing. Lingers a bit on clothes but that's about it. On par with 4711.

The reform performs better on me compared to the vintage. Vintage is a little bit richer though. Beware of the 2015 formulation like someone else said, it's very weak and smells watered down.
