Fragrance mythology is a fascinating thing, in my experience. The formula code is* reportedly the SAME between pre and post 2020 DHP. But sellers be damned, you see people asking for a premium price for “old formula”. As for DHI, I own the original formula, the 2011 version and a post-2020. Only the original silver collar/pre-2011 version smells like a discernibly different ‘formula’ 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great comparison Pep. I own a 2017 bottle of Intense and love it. I’ve been pondering for years whether to go for the Parfum but hesitated due to possible similarities. I need to try it. Interestingly I’ve found that the intensity of the Iris in my bottle has changed and not for the worse over time. I think there’s a forum somewhere on Fragrantica that discusses that point. Thanks 🙏

Great review. I love the honesty and how you depart from many in the community re this. Its like DHP is the golden child in frag comm... FWIW, the Intense is available in the US, the parfum was never sold here retail. You can find it on ebay and at decanters but never in a store and rarely at online discounters. Agree with you regarding the intense being a symphony and multi note achievement in the way the notes work. The parfum has a density and luxury but is not as compelling over the long term as the intense which always has a dance and sparkle and although its been imitated, never replicated. And stands on its own as a legendary scent. Not too sweet (valentino's version are) not too powdery, as a lot of imitation DHI are. The current formulations of both of these though do not project and vibe different than the pre 2019 formulation. They both currently have severe projection issues and become skin scents within an hour or two. The Dior Homme Original EDT is great and more of an elegant, office wear, but also great. And a variation on a theme.

The only one in the line I've either smelled or owned is the current version of DHI, which I blind bought a couple years ago. When I initially got it, I was disappointed. I didn't dislike it. But it was much less exciting than I had been led to believe. And it is the kind of thing that I just don't have much occasion to put on. But I've worn it a few times since then and my opinion of it has crept up. It's still not what I'd call a masterpiece. But I especially appreciate the deep drydown. Six-to-eight hours after putting it on, it just smells subtly fabulous in the air.

I think that they're both amazing. Wearing DHP right now and I'll say that the first 5 minutes catch me off guard with the lipstick intensity, but it doesn't take long before the darker notes come to the surface and it's so addictive.

Thanks for this. Sounds like I made the right decision picking up a bottle of Intense on sale recently instead of waiting and saving for the Parfum. I'd still like to try it out myself eventually.

I'm currently wearing Dior Homme Parfum because of the cold weather and it's really really nice. Dior Homme Intense i like the least, Dior Homme Original is enjoyable for evenings.

I actually totally agree with all you said.. Intense is so much more special. My husband thinks so too, and the French guy who sold it to me at the perfumerie said the Intense wins over the parfum hands down.

Good comparison, thank you. I forgot, have you owned/reviewed MFK Oud? I think it gives off similar vibe to DHP, but more pronounced, more refined, stronger (which might be a + or a -) and ultimately, better. I have not smelled the current DHI. Of the stuff I own of this series, my favorites are 1. The original silver stem Dior Homme 2. The original silver collar Dior Homme Intense | | | | 3. Dior Homme Parfum (which has only ever been available in one formulation) The first 2 have secured their places in my dandy frags lineup. I agree with you in that DHP is more expendable, less memorable leathery-woody thing. I only ever use mine to ”layer” with Dior Homme, which is totally unnecessary but the combined effect is nice. I might get rid of DHP at some point, but the others, never.

The best take I’ve seen so far. I did not like the Parfum at all. I have Original and Intense, and they’re more alike now than they were when they were first released, based on their most recent formulations, and less “lipsticky” - they don’t actually come across as either makeupy or lipsticky to me these days. When I first smelled Parfum, it came across as Dior Homme Intense - Ambrette, + dried liquorice root and suburban pub carpet smell 😂

GREAT review; insightful, honest, fearless. I owned Homme, Homme Eau, Intense, Parfum. My then girfriend smelled Parfum on me, and asked if I was wearing a woman's perfume. She smelled Intense on me and liked it. I think the Parfum will be reformulated for 2025. Hopefully, it will smell masculine. Otherwise, Dior should rename it Dior Femme Parfum and market it to women. Maybe the Intense version can be renamed Homme Parfum. (Please, fellow fragrance enthusiasts and those obsessed with Homme Parfum, don't attack me; its just my honest opinion.)

Im glad you`ve spotted that DH parfum contains a synthetic smelling leather accord...it is quite cheap smelling and the worst out of all Homme fragrances to my nose. Looks like Dior lives grey days without releasing masterpieces as it used to be in the past.

I mean it's great, French perfumery, but for me it smells too... perfumey, even without aldehydes, has something , and I don't mean that in a demeaning way, generic. I mean it doesn't make me feel in a certain way, doesn't evoke any things that I would associate with future olfactory memories. Like, when I first discovered Egoiste, late, I felt like, yeah, man , this is it, where were you and where was I that we didn't meet yet? Egoiste and Platinum Egoiste are very boring to me. I consider Intense and Dior Homme Parfum both masterpieces. They’re the top of the food chain for me. I suppose it’s all subjective. Luckily, there’s no shortage of choices. Unfortunately, my wallet takes a constant beating.

When i got a decant of DHP, i was convinced for a while that i got scammed and i got DHI instead. When i finally managed to test both side by side, i noticed the subtle differences and i clearly prefer DHI because i find it better blended and balanced. Dior Homme Parfum and Naxos are two of the most overhyped perfumes in modern fragrance history in my opinion. In general, i hate using grandieuse words to describe things. I believe that certain words shouldn't be used liberally or else they lose their value. If you tell your partner that you love her every hour of every day, after a while she's be like "yea sure whatever". Or if you apologise for the hundreth time, it no longer means anything. Same thing with calling a fragrance "masterpiece" or "perfect" or "greatest of all time". If we call everything masterpiece then what is an ACTUAL masterpiece? You set the bar low for yourself and everyone else because sheep-behaviour is real. Dior Homme Parfum is not the greatest perfume of all time as many fragrantica reviews claim, its not even close. At the end of the day its all subjective, but im a firm believer that you shouldn't put such bold stamps on things before you gain more perspective and experience and that might take decades. An aquarium for a goldfish is all the water in the world... Just wanted to get that off my chest haha

I have a DHI 2024 and it’s still great but a little but more metallic or watery (more modern I guess). Also just bought a 2018 150 ml DHI and it’s definitely richer and floral. Hopefully it will last forever haha.

I bought the OG Dior Homme Parfum 75mg...its quite complex..The new (reformulated)DHP is "thinner" and not as many notes as the OG...The OG is rich and incredibly long lasting the leather comes through and even the rose in it is present and so is the incense and sandalwood and the touch of "oud" is there too..of course the iris is the leader in the opening thru the mid.. The OG is a masterpiece

Dior Homme Parfum has not been reformulated. Dior are meticulous with their formula codes; there has only ever been one for the Parfum.

It was so good to hear your thoughts on these Pep. I found the parfum, which I liked initially, as my taste has developed I just find it too dense and I feel like you were alluding to that too when speaking about being able to pick things out. Anyway I now have neither and bought a silver stem version of the original which , like yourself, I wore at the time when it was released. DHP got to be possibly the most overrated designer fragrance of the last decade. People get so ungenuine when praising this underperforming, unambitious derivative juice. If you own DHI, don't bother, especially at 2024 prices. Sebastian Lara is ofc, the biggest offender in fragcom in this regard.

Hello Pep, I completely agree with you. I feel DHP is too « blocky », too dense and lacking complexity. DHI is so much more interesting, versatile and more of an every day wear. I feel that the iconic status of DHP is partly due to its rarity and the fact it has been constantly out of stock. But I am sure that if it had been readily available, things would have been different.
